The Theory of Everything Trailer – Eddie Redmayne takes us into the world of a young Stephen Hawking

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

theory-of-everything-pic1-slideEver since he became famous, we’ve only known Stephen Hawking as a middle-aged man, who is relatively immobile in a wheelchair.

However the film The Theory Of Everything is going to take us back to his youth, when he was a carefree student at Cambridge, who at the age of 21 was diagnosed with motor neurone disease – along with a prognosis that he would be lucky if he lived just a few more years.

The trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The Theory of Everything is the story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne), and Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones) the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.

‘Little was expected from Stephen Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age. He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children. Over the course of their marriage as Stephen’s body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

‘Professor Stephen Hawking is one of the most famous scientists of our age and author of the bestseller, “A Brief History of Time”, which has sold millions of copies world-wide.’

The film should be out in the US in November, with a January 1st UK release date set. [Read more…]

Liam Neeson Finds A Monster Calls With Felicity Jones

May 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neesonLiam Neeson has grown a reputation for making hard man movies in the last few years, but there’s certainly a lot more to him than that. Now Screen Daily reports that he is set to star in Juan Antonio Bayona’s fantasy, A Monster Calls.

Felicity Jones has also signed up for the film

Patrick Ness has written the script based on his children’s fantasy novel which  follows thirteen-year-old Conor O’Malley. He has to deal with his mother’s sickness, school bullies and a yew tree in his backyard that turns into a monster and tells him strange stories. However the monster/trees’ stories give him the tools to come to terms with the truths of life.

Neeson will be the monster (or at least its voice). A October 2016 release has already been set.

Felicity Jones Up For Comedic Romeo & Juliet Tale, Rosaline

January 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

felicity-jonesRosaline feels like it’s been in development for a long time, but it’s now moved a step closer to the screen with the news that Felicity Jones is in early talks to join Universal’s upcoming comedic take on Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet, called Rosaline.

The movie is set in the period of the play but uses modern language. It is being told from the viewpoint of Rosaline, Romeo’s first flame. She doesn’t actually appear in Shakespeare’s play, but is mentioned as someone Romeo was besotted with but she gets completely forgotten when he meets Juliet. The project is based on a novel by Rebecca Serle, called When You Were Mine.

Alex Timbers is directing from a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. An earlier verison of the movie had Michael Sucsy attached to direct, with Lily Collins, Deborah Ann Woll, Dave Franco and Allison Williams set to star. It’s not known if any of them are still involved.

New The Invisible Woman Trailer – Plus a poster for Ralph Fiennes’ Dickens flick

November 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ralph Fiennes got plenty of plaudits for his directorial debut, Coriolanus, and for his second venture he’s moving from Shakespeare to Dickens with The Invisible Woman – it’s not based on a Dickens tale, but it is about him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Felicity Jones (Breathe In, Like Crazy) stars as Nelly Ternan, the woman with whom Charles Dickens (Ralph Fiennes) had a secret decade-long relationship. They are joined by a stellar British cast including Kristin Scott Thomas (Four Weddings and a Funeral, I’ve Loved you So Long) as Nelly’s mother – marking the first occasion Fiennes and Scott Thomas have appeared together on screen since the Academy Award® winning The English Patient in 1996 – alongside Tom Hollander (In the Loop, Pride & Prejudice) as author and friend of Dickens, Wilkie Collins, and Joanna Scanlan (‘The Thick of It’, Notes on a Scandal) who delivers a heart-breaking performance as Dickens’ long-suffering wife, Catherine.

‘Nelly (Felicity Jones), a happily-married mother and schoolteacher, is haunted by her past. Her memories, provoked by remorse and guilt, take us back in time to follow the story of her relationship with Charles Dickens (Ralph Fiennes) with whom she discovered an exciting but fragile complicity.

‘Dickens – famous, controlling and emotionally isolated within his success – falls for Nelly, who comes from a family of actors. The theatre is a vital arena for Dickens – a brilliant amateur actor – a man more emotionally coherent on the page or on stage, than in life. As Nelly becomes the focus of Dickens’ passion and his muse, for both of them secrecy is the price, and for Nelly a life of “invisibility”.’

The film’s out in the UK February 7th 2014. [Read more…]

Breathe In (Blu-ray)

October 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones, Amy Ryan, Mackenzie Davis
Director: Drake Doremus
Running Time: 96 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 7th 2013

I loved Drake Doremus’ Like Crazy, which managed the rare feat of making a love story feel fresh, real, new and passionate. I had high hope for Breathe In, but unfortunately while there are some things to admire, the overall feeling is that the film is slightly tedious and contrived.

Sophie (Felicity Jones) is a foreign exchange student who arrives in upstate New York to stay with Keith (Guy Pearce), his wife Megan (Amy Ryan) and daughter Lauren (Mackenzie Davis). Keith and Sophie share a love of music, and slowly their musical connection develop into feelings for one another, but neither is sure whether they should act upon them. [Read more…]

Amanda Seyfried, Alan Arkin & Felicity Jones Are Having A Most Wonderful Time

August 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amanda-seyfriedLast February Diane Keaton and Robert Redford signed up for the Christmas comedy Most Wonderful Time. Now it appears that Redford has left, but Amanda Seyfried, Alan Arkin and Felicity Jones have come onboard, according to BleedingCool, with Keaton still involed.

Directed by Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) from a script by Steve Rogers (P.S. I Love You), Most Wonderful Time will tell the story of a young woman (Jones) who brings a friend home to her parents’ house for Christmas, and they pretend that he is her boyfriend.

Arkin is set to play the wise and wry grandfather (when doesn’t he play that?). It’s not clear who Seyfried will be, but hopefully it’ll become clear soon. And just to ensure the whole thing is as twee as possible, it’ll be narrated by the family dog, Rags

Felicity Jones Joins Stephen Hawking Biopic Theory Of Everything

June 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

felicity-jonesA couple of weeks ago we reported that Eddie Redmayne was in talks to play Stephen Hawking in a biopic of the physicist’s early days, Theory Of Everything. Now he’s signed on the dotted line and it looks like he’s getting a co-star as Deadline reports that Felicity Jones has signed up to play Hawking’s first wife, Jane.

The film will focus on the relationship between Hawking and Jane. He met her shortly before he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease while studying at Cambridge at the age of 21. They then stayed together and married, even when he was told he might not live for more than two years. Of course that prognosis turned out to be completely wrong as he’s still with us now.

They were married from 1965 to 1991 and had three children together. In recent years they’ve become great friends again, so there is kind of a happy ending.

Working Title is backing the movie, with Man On Wire’s James Marsh set to direct. Filming will start later this year.

Felicity Jones Tells A True Story, Alongside Jonah Hill & James Franco

February 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

felicity-jonesFor the last couple of years, actress Felicity Jones has seemed poised to break into the big time, and perhaps she’s closer to that by signing on to play the female lead in True Story. She joins Jonah Hill and James Franco who signed up to star last year. Brad Pitt will produce.

The movie is based on New York Times journalist Michael Finkel’s memoir, which is all about how a serial killer called Christian Longo stole the reporter’s identity. A day after Longo was caught in Mexico using Finkel’s name, the newspaper fired him. However, the journo was given a shot at redemption when Longo revealed that the only person he would talk to is Finkel.

Jonah Hill will play the journalist while James Franco is Longo. Felicity Jones will play Finkel’s girlfriend, who stands by her man throughout this ordeal.

Rupert Goold is set to directing from a screenplay by David Kajganich. (Source: Deadline)

Paul Giamatti In Talks To Play Rhino In Amazing Spider-Man 2

January 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul-GiamattiPaul Giamatti may not be the first person you’d think of to play a villain called The Rhino, but Sony and director Marc Webb obviously think differently, as they’ve got the actor in talks to play that part in The Amazing Spider-man 2. Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is also in negotiations for an unspecified role, according to THR.

The Rhino character first appeared in the Marvel comic Amazing Spider-Man #41 in 1966, as a Soviet thug who wears a superhuman suit that makes him virtually indestructible, while giving him super strength and speed. However in recent years he’s tended to be a more sympathetic character and some are speculating that rather than being a villain, Giamatti’s Rhino will highlight the unintended consequences of Oscorp’s work, which has already ended up with Spider-man and The Lizard.

What makes the choice of Giamatti perhaps less unexpected is that back in a March 2011 interview with ShowbizSpy, the actor said it was a dream role for him. “I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” he said. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”

Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, while new cast members include Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Shailene Woodley as Mary-Jane Watson, and Jamie Foxx as Electro. Filming starts next month for a summer 2014 release.
