Danny Huston May Take On Tim Burton’s Big Eyes

May 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-hustonA few months ago, Tim Burton decided to leave the fantastical behind and take on the biopic Big Eyes, and now he’s filling out the cast, with THR reporting that Danny Huston is in talks to star in the film.

The movie is based on the fascinating true story of artists Margaret Keane and Walter Keane (Amy Adams & Christoph Waltz), whose bizarre paintings featuring large eyed characters were beloved across the world in the 1960s. However, Margaret later claimed she was the true artist behind all the big-eyed paintings, and that the rather pompous and self-obsessed Walter (who spoke about himself in the third person and compared himself to Rembrandt and El Greco) stole all the credit for her work.

It set off a long running dispute between the two which ended in court battles, and a rather dramatic moment in court where the judge asked both to do some painting. Walter refused to do so because of a pain in his arm, but Margaret quickly crafted one of her trademark paintings.

Huston will play a burnt-out, heavy-drinking gossip reporter.

Filming is due to kick off this summer, with Burton working from a script by Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander.

New Man Of Steel Trailer – Clark Kent is getting intense & battling General Zod

April 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first trailers for Man Of Steel were certainly moody, but light on plot and action, but they’ve certainly made up for that with the latest promo, which suggests that the film will be as full of special effects and explosions as you’d expect. It’s a big blowout of a trailer, suggesting the film’s going to have a fairly serious tone, but offer a lot on the spectacle front.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures comes “Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavill (“Immortals,” TV’s “The Tudors”) in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, under the direction of Zack Snyder (“300,” “Watchmen”).

‘A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth.  As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do.  But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

‘The film also stars four-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Master”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White.  Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).

‘Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue (upcoming “The Seventh Son”).  Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Ayelet Zurer (“Angels and Demons”), and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).’

The film’s out June 14th.

Seven New Man Of Steel Images Emerge

April 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

man-of-steel-ew-pic2The latest issue of EW features some interesting new images from Man Of Steel, including Superman (Henry Cavill) in flight, his bio-daddy Jor-el (Russell Crowe) and the infamous Zod (Michael Shannon). There’s also Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Clark Kent’s human parents, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.

The film promises a more real-world based look at Superman than earlier movies, with the trailers suggesting plenty of angst as Clark Kent tries to work out what it means to be the most powerful being on Earth.

The film opens this June. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz & Director Tim Burton Team For Big Eyes

April 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tim-burtonTim Burton is taking a step back from big, fantastical movies to make something a little smaller but still potentially very interesting. He is attached to direct Big Eyes, with Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams set to star, according to Deadline.

Screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were previously attached to direct from their own script before Tim Burton stepped in. Indeed it’s all change, as last January Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon were set to star, but they are no longer a part of the project.

The movie is based on the fascinating true story of artists Margaret Keane and Walter Keane, whose bizarre paintings featuring large eyed characters were beloved across the world in the 1960s.

Tim Burton will direct from Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski’s script. Shooting will begin this summer.

New Man Of Steel Pics Featuring Henry Cavill & Amy Adams Arrive

March 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

man-of-steel-TF-2
It’s still a few months until Man Of Steel hits cinemas on June 14th, but Total Film has got the 411 on the movie in a new feature, which provides a few fresh images from the film as well as behind the scenes (via io9). You can see those pics above and below, which include a fresh look at Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Henry Cavill as Superman himself (we’re liking the fact it looks like Cavill was allowed to stay a bit hairy – as chest fuzz is normally the first thing to go when playing a superhero – just ask Chris Evans as Captain America).

Snyder also told the mag that they’re trying to make a Superman film that makes sense to people, saying “We’ve tried to make a Superman movie where he does stuff and you go, ‘Yeah, if I was Superman, that’s what I’d do. Even though he’s an alien, he’s more relatable, more human.”

Henry Cavill adds, “This is a Superman for a modern age. It’s not betraying anything that Superman is, but it is grounding everything in reality. It’s the story of this incredible being who can do incredible things, but whom we can associate with. Because he’s gone through troubling stuff and had to make tough choices…”

It certainly sounds as if they’re going for the Dark Knight audience with the film. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Henry Cavill & Amy Adams Stand Proud In New Man Of Steel Pic

March 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Man-of-Steel-Cavill-AdamsYou may have seen this image released as part of the cover of the latest issue of Total Film, but now a clean version has arrived (via The Playlist), showing Amy Adams and Henry Cavill looking classic Superman and Lois Lane and Clark Kent.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.’

The film hits cinemas this June.

The Master (Blu-ray)

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Jesse Plemons, Joaquin Phoenix
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Running Time: 144 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 11th 2013

The Master almost needs two completely separate reviews, as it’s an audience divider if ever there was one. Some people with undoubtedly find Paul Thomas Anderson’s film tedious, repetitive, pointless, confusing and boring. However others will find it absorbing and endlessly thought-provoking, although even they will have difficulty coming to any firm conclusions about what the movie is ‘about’.

To be honest, while I liked the movie an awful lot, I’m still not 100% convinced it isn’t cinematic masturbation, but if it is, it’s masturbation turned into an art form – and possibly cinematic masturbation about cinematic masturbation. [Read more…]

Charlize Theron Going Into Dark Places, Replacing Amy Adams

February 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlize-theronLast May it was reported that Amy Adams was in talks to star in the thriller Dark Places. Unfortunately negotiations broke down and Adams left the project. Now there’s a new star in the frame, as Deadline reports that Charlize Theron is circling the role.

The movie is based on Gillian Flynn’s novel about a young woman who survived the massacre of her entire family when she was just seven years old, ending up with her testifying in court that her brother was the killer. However, years later the woman is sought by The Kill Club, a secret society that is obsessed with notorious crimes, who want to find out what really happened on that night.

Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Sarah’s Key) is directing from his own screenplay. No production schedule is known at the moment.

New Man Of Steel Trailer – Clark Kent is looking all kinds of hot

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Already today we’ve had trailers for After Earth and The Lone Ranger, and now it’s the turn of Man of Steel. All these big movie promos are lining up now in preparation to play ahead of The Hobbit. Man Of Steel is certainly one of the most intriguing. The trailer continues the introspective tone of the teasers, at least initially, before offering something a bit more explosive and action-packed at the end.

There’s definitely an attempt to sell this as the successor to The Dark Knight, although don’t be surprise if things get less artful and more bombastic as the June 14th release date approaches.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time.

May we just say that Henry Cavill is looking gorgeous. Few people have ever looked so good in a spandex suit and cape. And when we say he’s looking hot we’re not just being metaphorical. Take a look at the screengrab below and drool.

Paperboy Helmer Lee Daniels In Talks For Janis Joplin Biopic

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Precious director Lee Daniels is currently preparing for the release of The Paperboy and busy making The Butler, but he’s already looking to the future, as THR reports that the gay filmmaker is now in talks to direct a biopic of bisexual songstress Janis Joplin, titled Get It While You Can.

Amy Adams is attached to star as the iconic 1960’s singer-songwriter, who tragically died of a heroin overdose in the late 1960s. The artist is best known for her hits Piece of My Heart and Me and Bobby McGee. She also appeared at the original Woodstock in 1969.

People have spent decades trying to put a Joplin biopic together, and just this version has already passed through the hands of the likes of director Catherine Hardwicke and actress Renee Zellweger. It’s not the only Joplin biopic doing the rounds either, as there’s another with Broadway star Nina Arianda in the lead and Marthy Macy May Marlene director Sean Durkin helming. However Daniels’ one may well come first, as they’re planning to start shooting that one early next year.
