August: Osage County Trailer – Meryl Streep launches her next Oscar campaign

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A very strange thing happened this year – Meryl Streep wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. However on the evidence of this trailer, she’s going for yet another nom with August: Osage County.

Based on Terry Letts’ Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play, the star-packed film also stars Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Chris Cooper, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepard.

John Wells directs the film, which is about the dysfunctional Weston family and the daughters who have gone their separate ways, until a crisis brings them back to their Midwestern home. The film should be out later this year. [Read more…]

Star Trek Into Darkness 3D Trailer – Take a look at Zachary Quinto and co. in the third dimension

May 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s just a week until Star Trek Into Darkness hits UK cinemas (with a US release the week after), and it’ll be screening in 3D. To give us a feel for whether Starfleet needs a third dimension, Paramount has released an official 3D trailer. So if you’ve got a 3D screen or a spare pair of red/blue glasses, you can take a look.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

‘With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.’

Also offering a couple of character posters is Red 2, with Bruce Willis and John Malkovich looking very orange. The sequel sees the former CIA operatives back in action, and arrives in cinemas in July.

Finally the first poster for Rush, starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl has arrived, and charts the rivalry between F1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 1970s. The Ron Howard directed film is out later this year.

Star Trek Into Darkness Viral Clip – Benedict Cumberbatch gets menacing

April 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The vid above is halfway between a trailer and a clip, but whatever it is, it’s very effective in suggesting that Benedict Cumberbatch’s John Harrison is going to be one of the most formidable foes the crew of the Enterprise has ever had to face. Things are going to get personal as he faces off against Kirk and unleashes destruction against Starfleet.

Here’s the synopsis: Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘In summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

The film is out May 9th in the UK and May 17th in the US. And as you may have noticed, there’s also a new Kirk character poster, which you can see above.

Star Trek Into Darkness Benedict Cumberbatch Character Poster

April 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-trek-into-darkness-poster-new4Paramount is counting down to the final Star Trek Into Darkness trailer by releasing character posters from the movie. We’ve already had the likes of Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and the Enterprise crashing, and now it’s the turn of Benedict Cumberbatch’s evil John Harrison.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘In summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.’

As the trailers have shown, Harrison is adept at causing devastation, although there are still questions over his true identity, with some still suspecting he may be a new version of a classic Trek character. We’ll have to wait and see though. The film is out May 9th in the UK and May 17th in the US.

New Star Trek Into Darkness Poster Released As Advanced Booking Opens

April 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Teaser-Poster3
The Advanced Box Office has opened in the UK for Star Trek Into Darkness, even though the film itself doesn’t open until May 9th. You can get you tickets at Odeon, Cineworld, Vue, Empire, Showcase, Picturehouse or from the official Star Trek Into Darkness website; http://bit.ly/Z38ExT.

Alongside that have come two versions of a new poster. The one above sees Benedict Cumberbath’s villain wandering through the ruins of London, while the one below – which as you’ll notice announces the pre-booking, mixes that image with some shots of Chris Pine and co.

So take a look at the posters and if you’re in the UK, book your ticket (I’m sure they’re available in other places too).

Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-Cumberbatch-sherlockBritain’s Benedict Cumberbatch is likely to become a much bigger international star in the next few months thanks to his villainous role in Star Trek Into Darkness, and now he’s got another major project, as he has joined the cast of Crimson Peak for director Guillermo del Toro, according to Variety.

Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam are already attached to star in this haunted house thriller. Del Toro previously revealed a little bit about the film, saying, “It’s the turn of the century. So it’s at the turn of the century and half of the movie takes place in America, and the other half takes place in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria. And basically it’s a ghost story and gothic romance, trying to subvert the rules of the usual gothic romance. The first half is a love story, then that love story turns darker. And it’s at the same time a ghost story. I’m working at this moment with who is a really great playwright from the UK. She has the proper degree of perversity and intelligence to turn it into something interesting to watch. It’s sort of a very compelling version of the classic gothic romance, where you have the spookiness and the windswept landscape that dooms the characters, you know?”

It’s not known exactly who Cumberbatch will play. Del Toro is getting his cast sorted early, as production isn’t slated to start until February 2014.

New Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer – Chris Pine takes on Benedict Cumberbatch

March 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paramount has released a new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness. Now an action-packed new teaser trailer has been released, featuring some fresh footage, with Kirk zooming all over space and wanting to take on Benedict Cumberbatch’s incredibly destructive villain. Plus the Enterprise crashes!

There’s also a few things in there that will certainly reignite speculation that Cumberbatch is actually playing Khan.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘It says, ‘In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J.

The film hits UK cinemas on May 9th, 2013, with a US release on May 17th.

Star Trek Into Darkness Superbowl Spot – Fresh look at JJ Abrams’ much anticipated sequel

February 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

What we’ve seen of Star Trek Into Darkness so far suggests a more Earth-based tale than we’re used to, and that’s certainly true of this Superbowl spot, although it’s tough to tell whether that’s because we’re just being shown our world coming under destruction or if there really will be less trekking to stars in this adventure.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.’

The film hits cinemas May 17th, 2013, with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin all returning, and Benedict Cumberbatch as the villainous John Harrison (who many think is actually Khan).

Benedict Cumberbatch Taking On Gay Scientist Alan Turing In Imitation Game

February 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-CumberbatchAlthough everyone seems to agree that making a movie about Alan Turing is a good idea, it’s been tough to bring The Imitation Game to the big screen. Leo DiCaprio flirted with the lead role and the likes of J Blakeson have come and gone from the directing chair.

Most recently Headhunters helmer Morten Tyldum stepped up to helm and now he may have found his Turing in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch.

Turing is famed for helping the Allies defeat the Germans in World War II by breaking codes and building machines that were the forerunners of modern computers (which were based on his theories). However, in the 1950s he was prosecuted by the British government for being gay.

Turing made the extreme decision to undergo chemical castration instead of going to prison. In 1954 he died from cyanide poisoning, with many believing he killed himself by dosing an apple with the substance (although there are still come who believe it was accidental).

Graham Moore wrote the screenplay, which landed atop the Black List in 2011. There’s no studio attached yet, but the hope is they’ll get all the financing sorted once Cumberbatch officially signs on. (Source: Deadline)
