First Pics Of Channing Tatum In White House Down Arrive

November 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The battle of the rival movies about the White House being taken over by terrorisst has started, with the first images from White House Down arriving via EW (and scanned by the fine folks at HeyUGuys).

Roland Emmerich directs the film, which is about a young Secret Service agent (Channing Tatum) who gets put to the ultimate test when a paramilitary group invades the White House and takes everyone hostage. Jamie Foxx, James Woods and Maggie Gyllenhaal also star.

The film will be going up against Olympus Has Fallen, which has a broadly similar plot, but has Antoine Fuqua directing, with Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman starring. That movie is trying to get a jump on White House Down, with a spring release, while Emmerich’s movie hits US cinemas in June and is currently scheduled to hit the UK in September.

Side Effects Trailer – Rooney Mara gets medicated in Steven Soderbergh’s film

November 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven Soderbergh has said this will be his last theatrical feature before he retires (the Liberarace TV movie Behind The Candelabra is still to come). Whether he really down leave cinema behind is yet to be seen, after all, he’s been threatening to retire for year, but not the first trailer for Side Effects has arrived, which is another of his star-studded tales.

This one has Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and is about a woman (Mara) who turns to prescription medication to deal with her anxiety over her husband’s (Tatum) release from prison. She begins to take a new brand of anti-depressant, prescribed by a doctor (Jude Law), who seems to have more than a professional interest in her. Before long, everything spirals badly out of control, when it appears a murder has been committed. Watch the trailer after the jump.

The film is set for release in the UK on March 15th, 2013. It certainly looks like it’ll be a dramatic one.

New GI Joe: Retaliation International Trailer – With added Channing Tatum

November 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When GI Joe: Retaliation was delayed from last August to next March, the official reason was so they could convert it to 3D. However many wondered if there were major problems with the movie, which seemed to be confirmed when reshoots were ordered. However it now seems that the main issue was that Paramount made a major miscalculation about Channing Tatum. He was the main star of the first GI Joe film, but then they decided that while he’d be in the follow-up, he’d be majorly sidelined. Then he became one of the biggest stars around and so the reshoots were apparently mainly about reinserting him as a main character. That’s noticeable here. In earlier marketing Tatum was pretty much invisible – he didn’t even make it into many of the posters or trailers at all – he’s very visible at the beginning of this new trailer, alongside Bruce Willis and The Rock. The film hits UK cinemas March 27th, 2013.

Sienna Miller Set For Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher

October 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few years ago it really seemed Sienna Miller’s movie career was taking off with the likes of GI Joe and Stardust, but since then we haven’t heard a huge amount from her (at least in mainstream movies). However now Deadline reports Miller has joined the cast of Foxcatcher for director Bennett Miller (Moneyball).

The drama is based on the true tale of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), who was murdered by his paranoid schizophrenic friend Jon Du Pont (Steve Carell) in 1996. Du Pont was an heir to the Du Pont chemical company, who built a wrestling training facility known as ‘Team Foxcatcher’ on his sprawling Pennsylvania estate. Schultz tried to get Du Pont help for years before the murder. Sienna Miller will play Nancy, Doug Schultz’s wife. Channing Tatum is set to star as Schultz’s younger brother.

Bennett Miller will direct from a screenplay by Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye. The film has been in development for years (it got delayed by Miller taking the Moneyball gig), but will finally start shooting later this month in Pittsburgh.

Will Channing Tatum Direct Magic Mike 2?

September 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shortly after Magic Mike became a suprise success at the box office, Channing Tatum began talking about a sequel, and writer Reid Carolin has been charged with coming up with the script, once more collaborating with Tatum on the story. Plus, there’s a Broadway version of the film in the works.

Now we’ve had an update and it appears Tatum is thinking of making Magic Mike 2 his directorial debut. He told the German site Filmstarts (via The Film Stage), that as Steven Soderbergh is supposedly retiring, Magic Mike 2 could be helmed by Soderbergh’s longtime assistant director Gregory Jacobs (Wind Chill, Criminal), but then suggested that he and Carolin might just end up helming the movie themselves. Who knows how serious he is, but it seems a Tatum directed sequel is possible.

However the follow-up is a way off at the moment, with the Broadway adaptation taking priority at the moment for Tatum and Carolin. They do have sequel ideas though, with the actor telling Allocine, “We have a story, and it is really ridiculous and fun. It’s a road movie sort of thing, where a bunch of strippers get back together. It’s more of a broad comedy. I don’t know whether it will happen or not.”

10 Years Trailer – Channing Tatum heads for a high school reunion

August 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Can Channing Tatum keep his incredible hot streak going with 10 Years? Well, on the evidence of the trailer, it look like it could be okay when it hits cinemas later this year, with Channing heading for his high shcool 10 year reunion. In the movie Jake (Tatum) is deeply in love with his girlfriend and ready to propose – until he runs into his high school flame for the first time in ten years. Jake’s friend Cully married his cheerleader girlfriend, and has been looking forward to the reunion so he can finally apologize to all the classmates he bullied in high school. However, after a few too many drinks, the jock-turned-family man ends up reverting back to his old ways instead. Meanwhile, longtime rivals Marty and A.J spend the night still trying to one-up each other to impress the coolest girl in class, who now has a secret. The famous one of the group, Reeves, is now well-known musician, but is still too shy to talk to the high school crush who inspired his one hit wonder.

21 Jump Street 2 May Shoot This Autumn, Plus Jumanji Reboot Planned

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After 21 Jump Street grossed $200 million from a $42 million budget, it’s little surprise that Sony wants a sequel, but it is quite unusual they’re pushing one through so quick, as according to a THR interview with Sony exec. Mark Belgrad, it could shoot as early as this autumn.

Tatum and Hill were presumably contracted for a sequel when they signed up for the first film, and Belgrad says they’ll both be back for the follow-up. The exec is particularly excited about Tatum, saying “There are very few actors… who can do romance, action and comedy. We’re in business with two of them, Channing Tatum and Will Smith.”

And talking of Smith, Belgrad says there’s already talk of Men In Black 4, following the $600 million success on the third installment. He says, “We believe it is an ongoing franchise,” he said. “We’re going to do [another one], but we don’t have clarity yet on how it should be done.”

He also mentions that there’s a reboot of Jumanji in the works. That would seem a good idea, as a lot of kids love the plot of the 1995 movie, although the film itself is pretty flawed.

The interview has also led to a lot of speculation that Marc Webb won’t return to direct Amazing Spider-man 2, but Belgrad doesn’t actually say. He merely gives a diplomatic answer saying they’d like him back but nothing has been signed.

Richard Jenkins Up For White House Down

July 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The battle of the movies about bad guys taking over the White House continues apace, with Variety reporting that Richard Jenkins is in talks to star in Roland Emmerich’s White House Down, which should start shooting fairly soon (Antoine Fuqua’s rival Olympus Has Fallen, started filming last week).

The movie is about a young Secret Service agent (Channing Tatum) who gets put to the ultimate test when a paramilitary group invades the White House and takes everyone hostage. Jamie Foxx, James Woods and Maggie Gyllenhaal also star.

Jenkins is in talks to play the Speaker Of The House of Congress, the man who’s next in line for the Presidency if both the President and Vice President can’t fulfill their duties. There’s a good chance therefore that Jenkins may be somehow involved in the hostage situation.

Channing Tatum Says Magic Mike 2 May Be On The Way

July 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I went to watch Magic Mike yesterday and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cinema so chock full of women (and me). Indeed it’s been attracting such big audiences that despite only costing $12 million to make, it’s already grossed over $77 million in the US alone.

With numbers like that, the question becomes, will there be a sequel, especially as the movie certainly leaves the door open for one? According to the Channing Tatum, plans are indeed afoot. When asked during a Twitter interview for Glamour if there will be a Magic Mike 2, Tatum answered, “Yes, yes and yes! We’re working on the concept now. We want to flip the script and make it bigger.”

The actor’s producing partner Reid Carolin wrote the script for Magic Mike, based on Channing Tatum’s days as a 19-year-old male stripper. It isn’t known if Carolin is working on the sequel, or if they plan on bringing new writers in. It’s also too early to tell at this point if Steven Soderbergh will be back to direct a follow-up.

It’s also tough to know what Tatum means by ‘flip the script’? It suggests maybe part 2 will look at female strippers, but could just be an expression he used to say they want to do things on a bigger scale. If they do go female, it could be a mistake, as what’s made the first film such a success is the promise of sexy guys!
