New Murder On The Orient Express Trailer – Johnny Depp & Kenneth Branagh lead the star-studded adaptation

September 24, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

1974’s film version of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express is renowned for its all-star cast (including  Albert Finney (as Hercule Poirot), Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael York and Jacqueline Bisset). Kenneth’s Branagh’s new take also wants to make sure there are plenty of recognisable face.

Branagh himself is playing the detective, Hercule Poirot (complete with ridiculous moustache), who’s joined on the journey by the likes of Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Michael Pena, Judi Dench, Leslie Odom Jnr, and Derek Jacobi. The first trailer and poster for the movie has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘What starts out as a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into one of the most stylish, suspenseful and thrilling mysteries ever told.  From the novel by best-selling author Agatha Christie, “Murder on the Orient Express” tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train, where everyone’s a suspect. One man must race against time to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again. Kenneth Branagh directs and leads an all-star cast including Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley and Josh Gad.’

Take Your First Look At Kenneth Branagh’s Star-Studded Murder On The Orient Express

May 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Kenneth Branagh was putting together his new filmic take on Agatha Christie’s classic Murder On The Orient Express, quite a few big-name stars came and went, including Angelina Jolie. However, he ended up with quite a cast, including Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Olivia Colman, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., and Branagh himself and the famed Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot.

Now we’ve got out first look at the movie, via EW, which suggests plenty of 1930s glamour, while Branagh and his impressive facial hair suggest a more hard-nosed version of Poirot than we’re used to.

Christie’s novel is about a death on the world’s most famous train, when a man known as Mr. Ratchett is stabbed 12 times and killed. Hercule Poirot, who happens to be travelling on the Orient Express, starts to investigate, discovering that many people could be the culprit – which is where all the new movie’s other famous faces come in.

The movie is due out in November. Take a look at the first pics below. [Read more…]

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer – Rey, Finn, Poe, Leia & Luke are striking back

April 14, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you were hoping for the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to give you a full rundown of the plot, you’ll be disappointed. Instead – and as most expected – it’s more about teasing the movie and getting people excited. Plot-wise, all we learn is the Rey will be practicing her Jedi skills and that the bad guys think the Jedi should end.

Nothing too surprising there then!

It does all look pretty cool though, with the return of Finn, Poe and Rey, as well as a glimpse of Leia and the voice of Luke Skywalker. There’s also plenty of drama, Kylo Ren looking suitable evil, and som spaceship action.

Take a look at the first trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

Star Wars: Episode VIII Gets Its Official Title

January 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems like JJ Abrams has initiated a new tradition with the fact he held off letting the world know that his Star Wars movie would be called The Force Awakens until long after production wrapped and speculation about the title had reached breaking point. Rian Johnson has followed a similar path, only now revealing that Star Wars: Episode VIII will be subtitled The Last Jedi.

That will inevitably lead to plenty of speculation about how that fits into the plot, although the most logical inference is that this means the movie more heavily leans on Luke Skywalker. However as technically Luke was never a full Jedi, there’s always a chance another Jedi Knight has survived somewhere who we’ll be introduced in the sequel (and of course that also leaves room for a few force ghosts too). Some have also speculated that it does refer to Luke, but that the fact he’s the ‘last’ means that Rey’s future is in something different that the old order of Jedi and Sith.

Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis star, with a December release date set. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we get a trailer! [Read more…]

Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley & More Joining Murder On The Orient Express Remake

October 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnny-deppFor almost a year, Kenneth Branagh has been putting together a new film version of Murder On The Orient Express, with himself in the lead role of Hercule Poirot. A few months ago he had Angelina Jolie interested in starring, but she’s since backed out.

However, he’s now got a raft of great names signing on, with the likes of Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Pena joining the movie, along with Lucy Boynton, Tom Bateman, Derek Jacobi, and Leslie Odom Jr.. It certainly suggests he wants to follow the lead of the star-studded 1974 version, which featured Lauren Bacall, Albert Finney, Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael York and Jacqueline Bisset.

Christie’s novel is about a death on the world’s most famous train, when a man known as Mr. Ratchett is stabbed 12 times and killed. Hercule Poirot, who happens to be travelling on the Orient Express, starts to investigate, discovering that many people could be the culprit. Branagh’s version will start shooting in November.

Hamlet Getting A Female-centric Reimagining With Daisy Ridley & Naomi Watts

May 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

daisy-ridleyHamlet is undoubtedly one of the greatest plays ever written, but as many have noticed, the female characters are somewhat problematic from a modern perspective. That’s now getting addressed on film with a movie adaptation of Lisa Klein’s young adult novel, Ophelia.

The cast is starting to come together, with Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts in final talks for the movie, which re-imagines the story of Hamlet and takes a look at it through the female character’s eyes. The two main women are Ophelia, a young woman who is the daughter of new King Claudius’s top advisor. She starts to fall for Hamlet, who is consumed with indecision over whether to kill Claudius, who he believes murdered his father.

There’s also Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, who marries Claudius shortly after the death of her husband, resulting in scorn from her son. It eventually all goes very badly, ending in massive tragedy for pretty much everyone (most of whom are dead).

However, Klein’s novel slightly re-imagines things, bringing in new story elements, secret romances and a change to the ending to make it slightly less full of death.

Final Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer – The old and the new unite

October 20, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-wars-force-awakens-poster1-slideThe excitement around Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already causing cinema websites to break under the weight of people trying to book tickets, and just in case there was anyone who wasn’t already planning to go, a final trailer has arrived.

It certainly looks cool, mixing the old and the new, and it appears director JJ Abrams hasn’t given up on his beloved lens flare just because he’s in a galaxy far, far away.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Lucasfilm and visionary director J.J. Abrams join forces to take you back again to a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars returns to the big screen with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

‘The film stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by J.J. Abrams & Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt.’

The movie is out December 17th. [Read more…]
