Pacific Rim Giant Robot Jaeger Blueprints Online

November 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The hype for next summer’s Pacific Rim has started, with the first footage arriving online yesterday and now a series of blueprints of the giant mecha robots that are central to the movie. They show off the vast humanoid bots, who are humanity’s only hope when monsters begin emerging from a portal in the Pacific and attacking the coastlines.

The monsters are huge, up to 300ft tall, and so they need an equally enormous response. In true mecha fashion, these robots, known are Jaegers, are piloted by humans.

Interestingly the footage released yesterday showed monsters, known as Kaiju, attacking in 2013, but according to dates on these images, humanity doesn’t get its response up and running until 2018 at the earliest.

Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi star in Guillermo Del Toro’s film. It’s out July 12th, 2013. Let’s hope we get a full trailer really soon, as this one is looking exciting.

First Pacific Rim Footage Hits – Monsters are attacking San Francisco

November 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the big summer blockbuster bets of next year is Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim. It’s out July 12th, but so far we’ve seen little from it, other than a few relatively nondescript pictures. Now the first footage has shown up online, allied to a viral site that’s just launched.

There are two vids, one a ‘Test of the Kaiju Emergency Alert System’, which is little more than a test card, while the other is a news report about giant monsters attacke San Francisco. As monsters, aliens and the likes have an inborn hatred of world famous landmarks (according to the movies, anyway), it doesn’t bode well for the Golden gate Bridge.

It’s not clear if this is footage from the actual movie or specially created viral marketing footage. Either way we get our first look at the 300ft Kaiju monsters, that in the film come through some sort of portal in the Pacific. Mankind’s only way to respond if putting human pilots in massive robots, who take on this deadly threat. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi star.

The first image from the long-gestating Nelson Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom has arrived via Black Film, showing us a reverse shot of the South African leader hand-in-hand with then wife Winnie after he’s been released from prison.

Idris Elba takes on the role of Mandela, while Naomie Harris is Winnie. Directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl), the film will follow Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary journey from childhood through his fight against apartheid and long imprisonment to becoming President of South Africa. New Pics From Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim Arrive

August 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Thanks to Empire (via Shock Til You Drop), four new images from Guillermo Del Toro’s much anticipated Pacific Rim have debuted. While they don’t show off the special effects of giant robots battling monsters spilling out of a spatial rift, they do give us a better look at Charlie Day than we’ve seen before and show off the busy production design of the movie.

The movie, which also stars Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam, is due out July 12th, 2013.

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance (DVD)

June 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Idris Elba, Violante Placido, Ciaran Hinds, Johnny Whitworth, Nicolas Cage
Director: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 25th, 2012

Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage), aka Ghost Rider, is lying low in Eastern Europe, trying to control the demonic presence inside him. However he’s sought out by a man called Moreau (Idris Elba), who wants to use the Rider and in return he promises to try and free Johnny from the curse of the flame-skulled demon inside him. Moreau wants Johnny to protect a young boy, who happens to the son of the Devil. Satan, in the human form of Roarke (Ciaran Hinds), has plans for the child, which Johnny and the Rider must stop.

Many were surprised that a sequel to the somewhat disappointing Ghost Rider was put into production, and reports that the reason it was rushed through was because Sony would otherwise lose the rights to the character didn’t exactly promote confidence. However early footage reignited interest, with fun-looking, slightly insane images of the Rider pissing fire and zooming around on his bike. [Read more…]

First Look At Idris Elba In Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim

June 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you were hoping the first image from Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim would reveal some of the promised giant robots, you’re out of luck, as it’s actually a rather quiet image of Idris Elba wearing a black suit and carrying a helmet.

It’s not particularly revealing, especially as it doesn’t give much hint at the unique style Del Toro is known for. But it’s still our first look, and timesly as Elba is currently in cinema in Prometheus!

As well as Elba, Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, and Charlie Day, Pacific Rim and is due to to open July 12, 2013. Here’s the synopsis: ‘When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.’ (Image via MovieHole)

Prometheus Trailer – It’s looking epic!

March 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After an almost farcical amount of hype, the full trailer for Prometheus has arrived, and it’s epic! While Ridley Scott has been keen to say it’s not an Alien movie, the trailer makes it clear that this is a full-on prequel to the famed series, even if it doesn’t feature the creatures themselves. It also gives us a better hint at the plot, with clues in ancient Earth civilisations hinting at the existence of an alien species the spaceship Prometheus sets off to find, only to discover things are more dangerous than they expected. Take a look at the trailer below and prepare to be impressed! We’ve also includes a new viral below, about growing your own Michael Fassbender!

There’s No Good Deed For Idris Elba

March 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Idris Elba feels like he’s on the edge of breaking really big in the US, and hopefully No Good Deed will help him on his way (as will his recently announced role as a young Nelson Mandella in The Long Walk To Freedom), as THR reports he’s signed up for the movie, alongside Taraji P. Henson.

Aimee Lagos’s screenplay is about a former DA-turned-stay-at-home mom and her two small children who are terrorised and kidnapped from their home when she invites a good-looking mysterious stranger in to wait for help after his car ran off the road.

Henson will play the terrified mom, while Elba will be showing his range as the deadly kidnapper. It’ll also reteam Idris with director Sam Miller, who helmed episodes of his detective drama Luther. Shooting will start in April in Georgia

New Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Trailer

December 16, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance was big on fun action but rather light on plot. Now a new promo has arrived to try and make up for that. Nic Cage returns as former stuntman and bounty hunter of rogue demons, Johnny Blaze, who has been living in self-imposed exile, believing that his powers are a curse. But when he is approached by a member of a monastic order who is looking for someone to protect a mother and her son, who are being pursued by the devil in the figure of a man named Roarke, the Ghost Rider takes the case. The trailer is a lot of fun and it certainly seems the film could be a lot better than the rather lacklustre first installment. It’s due out February 17th.

First Poster For Prometheus

December 15, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

What is it with Prometheus and giant heads? The first images featured a creepy big head and now it’s in the poster too, suggesting it’s got some sort of major part to play. As the plot revolves around the search for humanity’s beginnings, finding a hugh human head on an alien spaceship would be a good hint people weren’t 100% from Earth. With the film a semi-prequel to alien, that leads to a terrifying battle to save the human race.

Ridley Scott directs with Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson starring. It hits cinemas in June.
