Imogen Poots Up For Todd Field’s Beautiful Ruins Adaptation

November 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

imogen-pootsMany people believe Imogen Poots has a shot at real a-list stardom, but the young British actress is still waiting for the film that shoots her into the stratosphere. Now Variety reports that she is attached to star as Dee Moray in Todd Field’s Beautiful Ruins, based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Jess Walter.

The story begins off the Ligurian coast in the spring of 1962 and centres on four characters whose ‘orbit around one another is set in motion by an incident involving the international jet-set center, Rome, in the throes of La Dolce Vita madness during the shooting of Cleopatra. As the sole female lead, Poots will play “Dee Moray,” a young actress whose ties to several men, a force-of-one studio raconteur, a WWII veteran struggling to finish his first novel, a young Italian hotelier, and the great Richard Burton himself, are the epicenter of the story. Casting for the male roles is underway.’

It could certainly be an interesting one. Poots has previously been seen in the likes of 28 Weeks Later, Fright Night, Filth, A Late Quartet, The King of Soho, and Terrence Malick’s upcoming Knight of Cups.

First Look At Need For Speed In A New Featurette

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Fast and Furious such a huge moneyspinner, it not too surprising that DreamWorks is wondering if it can have its own car-based franchised with Need For Speed. Now we get our first look at the movie courtesy of an on-the-set featurette, which unsurprisingly focuses on the automotive action.

Based on the videogame series, Aaron Paul stars as an underground race car driver who owns a shop that modifies sports cars for racing. He is framed for the murder of his best friend, who died during a race, and upon his release from prison he seeks revenge. Dominic Cooper plays a former NASCAR driver who now owns a high-end shop that rebuilds race cars, while Imogen Poots is an exotic car dealer who works with both Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper’s characters.

Scott Waugh directs with a February 2014 release set. [Read more…]

New Greetings From Tim Buckley Trailer – Penn Badgley takes on Jeff Buckley

April 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When it was announced that Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley was set to acts and sings as the late musician Jeff Buckley in Greetings From Tim Buckley, a lot of people thought this was the worst casting anyone had ever heard of. However the first trailer showed he might actually be a very good choice.

Now a new promo has arrived, backing up the idea Badgley could be very good in this film, which is due out in the US later this month and will hopefully reach the UK later this year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In 1991, a young Jeff Buckley rehearses for his public singing debut at a Brooklyn tribute show for his father, the late folk singer Tim Buckley. Struggling with the legacy of a man he barely knew, Jeff forms a friendship with an enigmatic young woman (Imogen Poots) working at the show and begins to discover the powerful potential of his own musical voice. Greetings from Tim Buckley is filled with stirring musical performances and the memorable songs of a father and son who were each among the most beloved singer/songwriters of their respective generations. A presentation of Focus World, the alternative distribution label of Focus Features, and Tribeca Film.’ [Read more…]

The Look Of Love Trailer – Steve Coogan turns porn baron

March 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Look Of Love is set to take us into the world of British porn and the world of Paul Raymond, famed for his stable of blue magazines and for the Raymond Revue Bar in London’s Soho (and now for owning legit magazines and newspapers).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Steve Coogan and director Michael Winterbottom, the team behind 24 Hour Party People, Cock and Bull Story and The Trip, comes the fast, funny and outrageously true story of Paul Raymond, the controversial entrepreneur and property baron who established the Raymond Revue Bar and went on to become Britain’s richest man. With a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh (Control), The Look of Love co-stars Anna Friel, Imogen Poots and Tamsin Egerton as the women in Raymond’s life, alongside a great roster of British comic talent including Chris Addison, David Walliams, Simon Bird and Matt Lucas.

‘After starting his show business career as a mind-reader in a cabaret act, Paul Raymond went on to become Britain’s richest man and a modern King Midas. With an entrepreneurial eye and a realisation that sex sells, he began building his empire of gentleman’s clubs, porn magazines and nude theatre – provoking outrage and titillation in equal measure.

‘Raymond’s personal life was as colourful as his revue shows. His marriage to Jean, a nude dancer and choreographer, ended in a difficult divorce when he met Fiona – a glamour model who became the famous pin-up star of his magazines and shows. His daughter Debbie was the true love of his life, his business partner and heir to his empire – until her tragic and untimely death aged 36. Three weeks later Raymond was named Britain’s richest man and his fortune put at 1.5billion.’

It’s due out in the UK on April 26th. [Read more…]

Imogen Poots Asks Are We Officially Dating? Opposite Zac Efron

November 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

British actress Imogen Poots got her first big break with 28 Weeks Later, and while she’s popped up in various films since, it’s only in the last few weeks she’s really become flavour of the month in Hollywood. A few days ago she entered talks to play the female lead in Need for Speed, and now Deadline reports that she’s also signed up to star opposite Zac Efron in Are We Officially Dating?

The film is about three male best friends who make a pact to remain single. The plot thickens when each of them meets their perfect partner. Zac Efron and Miles Teller are set to play two of the friends, while Deborah Ann Woll will portray the ex-wife of one of the trio. No details were given for Imogen Poots’ character, but presumably she’ll be the romantic interest for one of them.

Tom Gormican (Movie 43) is set to direct the movie from his own original script, which was featured on the 2010 Black List of the best unproduced screenplays. Shooting will start later this month.

Imogen Poots Up For Female Lead In Need for Speed

November 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

DreamWorks really wants some strong franchises and it’s hoping that it can get that with the videogame adaptation Need For Speed, which it hopes will be its Fast & Furious. A few weeks ago it was revealed that Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul has been chosen to portray the male lead, and now THR reports that Fright Night star Imogen Poots is in talks to portray the female lead.

John Gatins (Real Steel) and George Gatins developed the original story, with Gatins handling the actual script. No concrete story details have been released, although the video game adaptation is said to be a throwback to car-centred movies of the 1970s. The plot will not be based on any specific game from the Electronic Arts franchise. We don’t know any specific details about either Paul or Poots’ characters either, unfortunately.

Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is directing, although it isn’t known when shooting will begin. It won’t be too long though, as a US release date of February 7th, 2014 has already been set.

Emilia Clarke & Jessica Brown Findlay Eyed For Captain America 2

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Once production wraps on Thor 2 and Iron Man 3, they’re quickly moving on to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Before then they need to get the new cast members sorted. Marvel and directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are currently eyeing their leading lady, with Deadline reporting numerous actresses are testing for the role.

On the shortlist is Emilia Clarke (who’s worked with the Russos on Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Alison Brie (Community). The character they would be playing has not been announced, but it will be a modern day love interest for Steve Rogers. Some suggest the female lead will be somehow related to Peggy Carter, and it’s interesting that as with Hayley Atwell in the first film, they’re mainly looking at English actresses for the part.

It is also being reported that Scarlett Johansson will be making a cameo as Black Widow in the movie, ensuring the continuation of the broad Marvel Universe. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released April 4th, 2014.

Greetings from Tim Buckley Trailer – Penn Badgley takes on the late Jeff Buckley

September 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many people were less than impressed with the idea of Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley playing the late musician Jeff Buckley, but now the first trailer gives us a taste for his efforts, which may not be as bad as some had feared. In 1991 Jeff Buckley is an unknown twenty four year-old LA musician and gets invited to participate in a tribute concert in New York City for his late father Tim Buckley, the iconic folk rock star. In the days leading up to the concert, Jeff grapples with his own self doubts and the legacy of his famous father. But with the loving help of an enigmatic young woman working at the concert, he finds the courage to perform at the now legendary St. Ann’s concert, where Jeff discovers his own voice singing his father’s songs, captivating the audience and launching Jeff’s own meteoric career. Simultaneously told in 1991 and 1966, Greetings from Tim Buckley poignantly explores the interweaving paths of a father and son who were among the most beloved singer-songwriters of their generations.
