Sam Neill & Rosamund Pike Go A Long Way Down As Filming Commences

September 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Principal photography is underway on the Nick Hornby adaptation, A Long Way Down, with Rosamund Pike and Sam Neill joining Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots in the movie (and as you can see above, the first image has also been released).

The film is currently being shot on location in England and Spain from a script by Jack Thorne (How I Live Now, The Scouting Book for Boys), with Pascal Chaumeil (Heartbreaker, Fly Me to the Moon) directing.

The film starts on New Year’s Eve on the top of a London skyscraper. Martin (Brosnan) is literally on the edge. A once-beloved TV personality, he’s now desperate to jump. But he’s not alone. Single mother Maureen, (Collette), sassy teen Jess (Poots), and failed musician turned pizza-delivery boy JJ (Paul), have all turned up on the same roof with the same plan. Instead of jumping, these four strangers make a pact to stay alive and stay together until Valentine’s Day at least. The movie then follows this group of unlikely friends as they try to pull back from the brink.

The movie is going to have a quick turnarouns, as the plan is to have it in in cinemas in January 2013.

Anna Kendrick Leads Shortlist For Captain America 2 Female Lead

August 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel Studios is gearing up for the superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which goes into production after Thor: The Dark World wraps later this year. As a result, the studio is currently searching for the female lead, with Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air), Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), and Imogen Poots (Fright Night) considered the front runners, according to The New York Post.

It isn’t officially known which character one of these actresses might play, although the speculation is that it’ll be Sharon Carter, who’s the niece of Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in the first film, and who is the Cap’s love interest in The Winter Soldier comic book arc.

Chris Evans is slated to return as Steve Rogers/Captain America, with Anthony Mackie signing on earlier this month to star as The Falcon. Samuel L. Jackson is expected to return as Nick Fury, while Sebastian Stan be back as Bucky Barnes, who transforms into the title villain, The Winter Soldier.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Captain America: The First Avenger scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It’s due for release on April 4th, 2014.

Comes A Bright Day (DVD)

August 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Craig Roberts, Imogen Poots, Timothy Spall, Kevin McKidd
Director: Simon Aboud
Running Time: 87 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 6th, 2012

Director Simon Aboud (who’s Paul McCartney’s son-in-law, no less) assembles a good, small cast for the Comes A Bright Day, including Submarine’s Craig Roberts, 28 Weeks Later’s Imogen Poots, Grey’s Anatomy’s Kevin McKidd and the always excellent Timothy Spall. Roberts plays a young Sam, who bigs himself up when he meets a pretty girl called Mary (Poots) who assumes he’s rich because of the watch he’s wearing. He heads to the upmarket jewellery store where she works to ask her out, just in time for a pair of armed robbers to turn up.

The store’s owner (Spall) trips the alarm, and soon he and the two young people are being held hostage by the sociopathic Cameron (McKidd) and his nervous young accomplice Clegg (Josef Atlin). As the robbers try to negotiate with the police and find a way out, the danger inside the shop increases, with Cameron always on the edge of going loco and killing somebody. As Mary begins to discover Sam has been lying to her about his job and wealth, his position becomes even more dangerous when she begins to think he may be in on the robbery. [Read more…]

Anna Friel, Tamsin Egerton & Imogen Poots Join King of Soho

February 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just what the world needs, a movie about Channel 5, Daily Express and porn empire owner Paul Raymond. However, with Michael Winterbottom at the helm, you have to hope it’ll be somewhat subversive and interesting. Now Variety reports Actresses Anna Friel, Tamsin Egerton, and Imogen Poots have joined the cast of The King of Soho.

The film tell the story of Raymond (Steve Coogan) who was dubbed The King of Soho because of the vast fortune he built through real estate properties and his pornographic productions, largely revolving around London’s Soho area. The plot will focus on both his personal and professional life, but it isn’t known what roles Anna Friel, Tamsin Egerton, and Imogen Poots will play.

Winterbottom is set to direct from a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh (Nowhere Boy, Control), with the director reuniting with Coogan after 24 Hour Party People, Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story, and The Trip for director. Hopefully they’ll be able to bring a Party People sensibility to this story of how someone who built him empire on sex eventually ended up in the heart of the mainstream.

Jim Broadbent & Imogen Poots Delving Into Irvine Welsh’s Filth

January 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last August it was reported that James McAvoy, Jamie Bell and Alan Cumming were set for key roles in an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel, Filth. Now it appears Cumming may be out (possibly replaced with John Sessions), and Variety reports that Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Joanne Froggatt and Imogen Poots have come onboard.

It isn’t certain who the actors will play, but the book is about Bruce Robertson (McAvoy), a sex-obsessed, cocaine-addicted, bigoted Edinburgh cop who is supposed to be investigating a murder but gets sidetracked by his own hangups, mainly revolving around his rather extreme sex life.

The author will produce, while Jon S. Baird will direct. Baird apparently got the job behind the camera after impressing Irvine with his feature debut, Cass.
