March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The film’s synopsis states, ‘Inspired by the incredible events surrounding a treacherous attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, EVEREST documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest of elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.’

December 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As promised, Fox has released the first trailer for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, giving us a look at Gary Oldman in the movie, along with Caesar looking rather stern as he marshals his ape forces.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.’

Matt Reeves directs, with the film due out next July. [Read more…]

Emilia Clarke Joins Terminator: Genesis As Sarah Connor

December 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emilia-ClarkeA few days ago it was revealed that Jason Clarke is in talks to play John Connor in Terminator: Genesis. Now it’s been revealed that the film has found his mother in the form of Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke (and yes, she is 20 years younger than her on-screen son), according Deadline.

Clarke beat out Brie Larson, who was the other top contender for the role. No story details have been revealed yet, although there’s certainly going to have to be some time-travelling involved, with the suggestion the movie will involve Sarah at a time shortly before the first of the Terminator movies, and that this time she may be travelling to the future to meet her son in the form of Jason Clarke.

The movie is also seeking an actor to play Kyle Reese, John Connor’s father, who was portrayed by Michael Biehn in The Terminator.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. It isn’t known when filming will begin.

Jason Clarke In Talks To Play John Connor In Terminator 5

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-ClarkeA couple of days ago it was revealed that the planned new instalment of the Terminator franchise is currently going by the title Terminator: Genesis. Now it’s moving forward again, as Deadline reports that Jason Clarke is in early talks to play as John Connor in the movie.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is still attached to star. It was also recently reported that that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson are the front runners to play Sarah Connor.

The ages of the actresses suggest the movie is going to involve some interesting time travel going on, as Clarke is 44, but will be playing the son of an actress in her mid-20s. Genesis also hints that this film will at least partially take place before the other movies. Of course Arnold Schwarzenegger is significantly older than he was in 1984, so it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll be playing another robotic clone, or if they’re going to deal with his aging.

The movie is also seeking an actor to play Kyle Reese, the father of John Connor who was played by Michael Biehn in The Terminator. Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. A July 1st, 2015 release date has already been set.

Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke & John Hawkes May Go Up Everest

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

josh-brolinEverybody in Hollywood is gonna be going up Everest soon – or at least pretending to – with rivals project based on ill-fated assents of the mountain currently in the planning stages. Doug Liman is planning to direct one with Tom Hardy likely to star, while Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns) is helming the other.

Now that latter one is filling out its cast. Deadline reports that Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke are all in talks for the movie. Christian Bale was previously being courted for the film, but he’s no longer involved.

The movie is based on an infamous incident in 1996, and will follow two separate groups who tried to reach the summit of Mount Everest, but the whole thing ended in tragedy. There’s no news on who the actors would play, but Bale had been set to play Rob Hall, the leader of a New Zealand group of climbers, four of whom never returned from the mountain. The plan is to shoot the movie this autumn.

Liman’s Everest film meanwhile is about George Mallory, who may have been the first to reach the mountain’s summit in 1924, but who never made it back to reveal if he had made it to the top or not.

Christoph Waltz Going To The Candy Store With Robert De Niro

May 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christoph-waltzAfter his Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained double whammy, Christoph Waltz will now have to see if he can win an Oscar for a movie that isn’t directed by Quentin Tarantino. Perhaps The Candy Store will be that film, which he’s just signed up to appear in, according to Variety.

He joins Robert De Niro, Jason Clarke and Omar Sy in the movie, from Academy Award-winning writer and director Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana).

The Candy Store interweaves several storylines set against the backdrop of the criminal underworld in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. A former covert operative (Jason Clarke) discovers the organisation he was dedicated to fighting is now operating in his new backyard.

When he teams up with a disgraced local cop (Robert De Niro), their investigation leads them to an international sex trade entrepreneur (Omar Sy), a Cold War consigliere posing as a typical American suburbanite (Christoph Waltz), and a beautiful girl wrapped up in an elaborate threat against Manhattan.

Gaghan will direct and produce from a script he co-wrote with Shannon Burke. Shooting kicks off in the next couple of months.
