Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman & The Rest Of The Suicide Squad Cast Unite For A Photo

April 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suicide-squad-cast-photoDC/Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad is going into production very soon and to prepare the cast have gotten together for a read-through of the script, and to mark the occasion director David Ayer has posted a great cast photo on Twitter.

Ayer appears in the pic with Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Will Smith (Deadshot), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jay Hernandez (unknown), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Karen Fukuhara (unknown) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).

Ike Barinholtz and Adam Beach are also included, although as this is the first we knew of them being in the movie, there’s no info on who they’ll play. There’s no Jared Leto on hand, who’s playing The Joker, but it’s not clear why not.

The movie revolveds around an array of supervillains, who have all been captured but are offered the chance for redemption by taking on a mission from which none of them are expected to return alive.
David Ayer is set to direct, with an August 5th, 2016 release date already been set. [Read more…]

Viola Davis May Have Just Joined The Suicide Squad

December 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

viola-davisTwo Oscar nominations failed to properly get Hollywood to pay attention to Viola Davis, but it appears that her turning helping people get away with murder on TV has finally made them take notice. Latino Review reports that after being rumoured for a while she’s been offered the role of Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad.

After the announcement that the likes of Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, and Cara Delevingne would be in the squad, having no one playing Waller was a bit of a hole, as she’s the character who runs the show.

Waller is a former congressional aide and government agent who become a prison warder and the person in charge of the Suicide Squad, a group of captured supervillains who’ve agreed to go on potentially suicidal mission in the hope of redemption.

There is a problem though, Davis is hard at work on How To Get Away With Murder, and Suicide Squad is due to start shooting before Season 1 wraps. But assuming they can work things out, she’ll be joining the movie.

Prisoners Trailer – Hugh Jackman loses his daughter, but can Jake Gyllenhaal help?

May 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You could be forgiven for thinking the only Hugh Jackman movie out this year is The Wolverine, but he’s also getting far more serious with Prisoners, and he’s got a great cast surrounding him to do it, including Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paul Dano. Now we’ve got out first trailer, which makes the film look like it could be pretty intense.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keller Dover (Jackman) is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His 6-year-old daughter and her young friend are missing, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?’

The film is out this autumn. [Read more…]

Viola Davis In Talks To Star Opposite Chris Hemsworth In Michael Mann Thriller

April 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Viola-DavisViola Davis scored a big hit with The Help, but we haven’t seen too much of her since then, especially as her recent movie, Beautiful Creatures, bombed at the box office. Later this year we’ll see her in The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby, Ender’s Game and Prisoners. Now she’s lined up another film, as Deadline reports that she’s set to star in Michael Mann’s currently untitled new thriller.

The film starts shooting in China next month, with Chris Hemsworth set for the lead role. Unfortunately not much is known about the story, except that it is set in the world of cyber threats and attacks, with American and Chinese forces working together to prevent hacking.

It’ll be Mann’s first movie since 2009’s Public Enemies, but sees him returning to the thriller genre he made his name with. It should hit cinemas sometime in 2014.

New Beautiful Creatures Trailer – Alice Englert heads for Southern gothic fantasy

November 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s getting a bit witchy in the Deep South in Beautiful Creatures, with a young woman (Alice Englert) knowing that she’s a ‘caster’ and that on her 18th birthday she’ll be claimed for either the powers of dark or light. Based on Kami Garcia’s novel.

Beautiful Creatures is about two star-crossed teenage lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a local boy, and a mysterious new girl, Lena (Alice Englert), who uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town, which could result in a power shift towards the forces of darkness. Beautiful Creatures is the first of a five book series, so the Warner Bros. will be hoping the movie is a success so they can line up some sequels.

The cast also includes Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Irons and Viola Davis. It hits cinemas on February 13th 2013. It certainly looks like it could be pretty good, with a strong cast who can sell the more far-fetched aspects of the plot.

Viola Davis Putting Together Barbara Jordan Biopic

March 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Help has certainly helped Viola Davis’ career, to the point that she’s now got enough clout to start putting together projects of her own. One that she wants to make will keep her in the same era as The Help, but rather than looking at the everyday lives of black people, she’d play someone at the forefront of civil rights, who made huge strides for black women.

According to Variety, Davis is developing a biopic of Barbara Jordan, alongside director Paris Barclay. The film will be based on biography, Barbara Jordan: American Hero, by Mary Beth Rogers.

In 1966, Jordan became the first African American to serve in the Texas Senate since Reconstruction. Then in 1972 she became the first Southern black woman ever elected to Congress, and the first to deliver the keynote address at a national party convention. Her powerful oratory stirred a nation and her ideals of ethical leadership inspired millions.

The biopic is in early development, with Davis busy working on the likes of Ender’s Game and Beautiful Creatures while she develops the Barbara Jordan movie.

February 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Richard LaGravenese’s supernatural love story, Beautiful Creatures, is certainly pulling together a strong supporting cast, as THR reports that Emma Thompson has joined the recently cast Viola Davis in the teen supernatural drama.

Beautiful Creatures is about a teen boy and girl who must confront a curse that has haunted the girl’s family for generations. Thompson is set to play dual roles as Mrs. Lincoln, a small town religious zealot, and Sarafine, who is the dark witch who possesses her.

The project is a adaptation of a Margaret Stohl-Kami Garcia novel. Richard LaGravenese is directing with Erwin Stoff and Molly Smith producing. Hollywood newcomers Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert have also joined the cast. Filming will begin in April in New Orleans.

We’ve gathered together some of the images below, but you can get a better look over at the NYTimes site, along with videos of the stars, which sadly aren’t embeddable. It’s incredible how they get all these people to take part, and it makes for some great shots.
