The Lego Batman Movie (Blu-ray Review) – Has the Caped Crusader gone a little gay?

June 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis, Ralph Fiennes
Director: Chris McKay
Running Time: 104 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: June 19th 2017 (UK)

The Lego Movie was a surprise to many – a film that when it was announced sounded like such a bad idea turned out to be one of the funniest, most original animated movies of the last few years, and a major hit to boost. Warner Bros. suddenly realised they had the potential for something much bigger, so rather than just putting a sequel in the works, they started working on spin-offs, including a Ninjago movie and The Lego Batman Movie.

We first met the Lego version of Batman (Will Arnett) in The Lego Movie – an arrogant vigilante convinced of his own greatness and jealous of the praise other superheroes get. He starts out the same here, saving Gotham City from The Joker and a Rogues Gallery of villains, and confident about how awesome everyone thinks he is. However, he’s also obsessed with doing things alone, with the result that when he’s back at Wayne Manor, he only has his butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) for company. Batman thinks that for the best, but it may be because he’s afraid of having a family. [Read more…]

The LEGO Batman Movie Trailer – The little yellow Dark Knight gets his own movie

November 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lego-batman-slideAfter the massive success of The LEGO Movie, Warner Bros. didn’t just put a sequel in the works, but also started planning films based on LEGO Batman and Ninjago. The first of those to arrive is The LEGO Batman Movie, which has just released a trailer to coincide with Comic-Con. It certainly looks like it’ll keep the fun tone of The LEGO Movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.’

What that doesn’t mention is the importance of him accidentally getting a ward, who becomes a rather different Robin than we’re used to. The film will be in cinemas February 10th 2017. [Read more…]

The Lego Batman Movie Gets A Second Teaser Trailer

March 28, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lego-batman-slide2It’s only a few days since we got the first teaser trailer for The Lego Batman Movie, but not content with that, Warner Bros. has decided we should get another. And it’s a good one, so take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘He’s LEGO® Batman. He only wears black or sometimes very very dark grey and now he has his own movie. We are delighted to share with you the hilarious first trailer for The LEGO® Batman™ Movie coming to cinemas February 10, 2017, from Warner Bros. Pictures.’

It’s gonna be a while until we get to see it, but if it’s half as good as The Lego Movie, it’ll be worth the wait. Hopefully we’ll get a full trailer very soon. [Read more…]

The Lego Batman Movie Teaser Trailer – The brick superhero is getting his own movie

March 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lego-batman-slideIn the run-up to the release of The Lego Movie, there were many who thought the whole thing was a hideous idea. However, when it arrived it turned out to be great, grossing $470 million worldwide. Shortly after its release, not only did a sequel go into development, but a film based around Lego Batman was announced.

Now the teaser trailer for that film has arrived.

Pictures.’ [Read more…]

Lego Batman Is Getting His Own Movie

October 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lego-movie-batmanIn The Lego Movie, Batman was very funny, but he was also a bit of a douche. However Warner still reckons he’s a good character to base a movie around, as it’s been announced that he’s getting his own spinoff. Hopefully the film will teach him to be a bit less arrogant.

It’s also been revealed that the movie has been put on the fast track, seemingly because they’ve realised it’ll take longer to get The Lego Movie 2 on the big screen that the May 26th, 2017 release date it’s previously been given. Lego Batman may now take over that release date, with the proper sequel coming sometime later.

Will Arnett is all set to voice Batman once more, with director Chris McKay – who was previously set to direct The Lego Movie 2 – helming the movie. Seth Grahame-Smith will write the script.

It means that is everything works out, Ben Affleck could have some competition for Batman movie dominance.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teaser – Leonardo and the gang team up with Megan Fox

March 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gone are the days when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were either cartoons in guys in Jim Henson Creature Show costumes. They’re getting a major effects upgrade for this new movie, which has just released its first trailer.

It’s looking pretty huge, although it hopefully hasn’t lost the humour.

Along with the first trailer comes the first official image, showing Megan Fox as April O’Neil (or at least April O’Neil after a visit to the Photoshop fairy). She’s certainly a bit different to Judith Hoag.

We’ve still got a while to ait for this one though, as the Jonathan Liebesman directed movie doesn’t hit US cinemas until August, while the UK currently has to wait until October (although if the buzz for this one grows, don’t be surprised if it moves up). [Read more…]

New The Lego Movie Trailer – The bricks have come to life

November 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many people may be wondering whether a film filled with little yellow Lego people can work. Well, on the evidence of this new trailer, it could be a lot of fun. It also shows off the various franchises that will show up, including DC superheroes, NBA basketball teams, Lord Of The Rings and Ninja Turtles.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Emmet (Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

‘Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie join Chris Pratt to form the cast of the first-ever full length theatrical LEGO movie, the greatest movie ever assembled, which is set to hit cinemas in 14th February 2014.’ [Read more…]

The Lego Movie Trailer – Looking more fun than you might think

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Lego Movie may not arrive in cinemas until next year, but you can understand why they want to release a trailer nice and early, as a lot of people will be wondering whether a film filled with little yellow Lego people can work. Will Arnett Joins Ninja Turtles In A Secret Role

April 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-arnettWith Paramount and Platinum Dunes’ Ninja Turtles reboot due to start shooting in a couple of weeks, there are a lot of roles to cast, now THR reports Will Arnett has signed on to play one of the leads. However, the actor’s role is being kept a secret.

If you’re wondering whether he’ll be Casey Jones, one of the Turtles’ human friends, it’s been confirmed that he won’t. That character will be in the film but is yet to be cast.

Megan Fox, who signed on last month, is playing April O’Neil, while the turtles – who will be rendered in motion-captured CGI – will be played by Alan Ritchson (Raphael) Pete Ploszek (Leonardo), Jeremy Howard (Donatello), and Noel Fisher (Michaelangelo). Other roles yet to be cast are Splinter (a sewer rat and the Turtles’ martial arts master) and the villainous Shredder. It’s possible Arnett could be either of these, possibly giving Splinter a more humorous touch.

Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) is directing from a screenplay by André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum (Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol).
