Bryan Singer Plans 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Movie

September 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan-SingerFor quite a while it looked like we were going to get a David Fincher version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, but unfortunately the movie he was developing with Disney fell apart of budget and creative differences.

Now though it appears Bryan Singer is working on a movie version of Jules Verne’s classic novel. The director revealed the news himself on his Instagram, saying ‘It’s my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film. A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart. Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond. #julesverne #20000leaguesunderthesea #nemo’

While the last time he took on a classic tale with Jack The Giant Slayer resulted in the biggest bomb of his career, hopefully this time he’ll have more success.

There’s not too much news on exactly what direction the film will take on the story of Captain Nemo and his incredible submarine, the Nautilus. Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney (featured in the picture below) are writing the script. [Read more…]

Elizabeth Banks May Direct Charlie’s Angels Reboot

September 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elizabeth-banksMany wondered whether Elizabeth Banks had bitten off more than she could chew when she picked Pitch Perfect 2 as her directorial debut. However she did a great job and the film was a big hit. Now she’s plotting her follow up, with THR reporting that she’s in talk to helm and produce a remake of Charlie’s Angels.

It may only be 12 years since the last time the last time the Angels were on the big screen, and four years since a failed TV reboot, but Sony seems to think it’s a good time for another go-around.

The original TV show debuted in 1976, with Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, and Jaclyn Smith as three women who decide to stop being cops so they can work for the enigmatic Charlie (who they only conversed with via telephone), at his private detective firm, the Townsend Agency.

It’s early days as no writer is attached as yet, but assuming it all pans out, Banks may be directing.

The Jungle Book Teaser Trailer – First impressive look at Disney’s live-action take on Kipling’s tales

September 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Jungle-Book-2016-slideIf you’re going to mess with a classic like The Jungle Book, you’d better set out to impress and that seems exactly what Disney is trying to do with the first trailer for next year’s live-action take on Rudyard Kipling’s stories.

It focuses on some very impressive looking special effects and action, suggesting this will be one to look out for it’s released April 2016.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.’ [Read more…]

Disney Planning New Mary Poppins Movie With Rob Marshall Directing

September 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mary-poppins-1964Only a couple of years after making a movie all about how Mary Poppins author PL Travers didn’t like the idea of making a Mary Poppins movie and tried to control the process to ensure it didn’t go too Hollywood, Disney has decided to see what the sound of Travers spinning in her grave would be like, by announcing they’re working on a new, original Poppins movie.

Into The Woods and Chicago director Rob Marshall will help develop and helm the new live-action musical, which EW reports will be set in Depression-era London. And while the 1960s movie was mainly based in the first of Travers’ books, the new movie ‘will explore Mary’s further adventures with the Banks family and beyond as illustrated by Travers’ seven additional novels.’

Disney is keen to stress that this shouldn’t be seen as a sequel, instead being a completely new take of the characters. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash) will write the songs, and the film apparently has the support of original Mary Poppins co-composer, Richard Sherman.

Disney also has the blessing of the Travers estate, who obviously aren’t a controlling as the author herself.
