Matthew Vaughn has been fully immersed in the world of comic books for the past few years with the likes of Kick Ass, Kingsman, and X-Men: First Class. Now he may being staying in that milieu but getting a bit more classic as THR reports he’s in talks to direct a new live-action Flash Gordon movie.
Alex Raymond created Flash in 1934 in response to the success of Buck Rogers. The comic strip follows the eponymous hero who gets stranded on the planet Mongo alongside lady friend Dale Arden due to the actions of Dr. Hans Zarkov. There he gets caught up in the battle against the planet’s ruthless tyrant, Ming The Merciless.
The plan for the new film is to make something fun but less camp than the cult 1980 movie, which mixed a Queen soundtrack with an edge of cheesiness to entertaining but rather bizarre effect. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek 3) are writing the script, based on a treatment by the Bourne movie’s George Nolfi.
It’s not clear when we might see the film, but with Vaughn behind the camera it’d be one to watch out for.
The cast for Disney’s live-action take on Beauty & The Beast has fast been coming together with production set to start next month at Shepperton Studio. However many of the actors having been getting together before that, as Josh Gad has posted a selfie on Instagram to prove it.
It seems Ryan Gosling’s self-imposed acting hiatus is over as just a few days after it was reported he’s in talks for Guillermo Del Toro’s Haunted Mansion,
It’s been a while since we had a Vacation movie. There were four between 1983 and 1997, and then in 2010 came Hotel Hell Vacation, although the less said about that the better. However now the series is returning from straight-to-DVD hell for a full-on reboot, with Chevy Chase and Beverly Beverly D’Angelo returning as Clark and Ellen Griswold.
It feels like we’ve been waiting eons for Such Good People. We first reported on it
Most people might be getting excited about the slew of big budget blockbusters that are on their way to cinemas, but let’s not forget that this summer also sees the return of the Magic Mike strippers, and just so we don’t ignore the film, Channing Tatum has got a new character banner.
There’s still a bit of suspicion around the continuation/reboot that is Terminator Genisys, even after a very good first trailer. However now the movie is ready to really show us what it’s got up its sleeve, giving us a glimpse at exactly how Jason Clarke’s John Connor plays into a movie that takes place largely before he was born.
Ever since was first rumoured Ant-Man sounded like an odd hero to get a blockbuster adventure, but seeing as people said the same about pretty much every other character Marvel’s given a movie – from Iron Man to Thor – before they went on to huge success, there’s every reason to believe this new movie will be worth a look too.
For the past few years Sylvester Stallone has shown he’s certainly not afraid to revisit past success, and for the most part it’s worked, with decent box office for the likes of Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Now he’s bringing his famed boxing creation back once more for a movie that has the potential to become a franchise in its own right, but carrying on without him.
It’s odd that in their animated movies Disney is content that fairytale people can have American accents, but when they turn live-action everything gets very British, whether it’s Angelina Jolie adopting an English accent for Maleficent or the fact most of the cast of Cinderella were Brits.
