Extended Guardians Of The Galaxy Promo – Chris Pratt shows off the fun of Marvel’s imminent space adventure

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guardians-of-the-galaxy-poster2-slideIt’s only a few weeks until we can see whether Marvel’s slight gamble with Guardians Of The Galaxy will pay off – and if the evidence of this extended promo is anything to go by, it’s going to do very well indeed.

Take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio Del Toro as The Collector. James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige, p.g.a., producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is written by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman and releases in UK cinemas in 3D on Thursday July 31, 2014.’ [Read more…]

Gus Van Sant Takes On Manga Adaptation Death Note

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gus-van-santAlthough The Tracking Board has been rather hit and miss with its scoops, it’s reporting that Gus Van Sant has signed up to direct an adaptation of the Japanese manga Death Note. Back in 2011 Shane Black was set to helm, but he left quite a while ago and since then the movie version has been on the backburner.

However it does appear Van Sant will be working from a script by Black, Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

The project is based on the manga series written by Tsugumi Ôba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, which revolves around a college student named Light who finds a mysterious notebook that has the unique power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. When the student uses his newfound power to rid the streets of criminals, he is pursued by an FBI criminologist.

The manga series, which has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, has spawned a number of films and TV shows in Japan. It’s certainly a premise with some possibilities, and while it’s something rather different from what we’ve come to expect from Van Sant – who’s best known for the likes of Milk and Good Will Hunting – he could turn it into something interesting.

At the moment there’s no news on when the film might shoot.

Ridley Scott Plans David and Goliath Movie

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ridley-scottRidley Scott must feel that after helming his upcoming epic, Exodus, Biblical dramas are a good bet, as he’s partnering once more with 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment for a movie about King David, according to Variety.

Jonathan W. Stokes (Blood Mountain) will write the screenplay, which has the working title David. It’s likely to focus on the period when he was King of Israel, well after his early exploits defeating the mighty Goliath.

It appears Ridley Scott is currently just attached to produce, but as with the many porjects he has in development, if he likes the direction it’s going in, he may step in to direct.

If he does helm, it’ll be a while until he gets around to it, as it’s believed be will shoot The Martian with Matt Damon this autumn, and it’s been suggested he wants to move straight onto Prometheus 2 after that (which already has a March 2016 release date pencilled in, although most expect that to slip).

Dwayne Johnson Up For Robert Ludlum Adaptation, The Janson Directive

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dwayne-johnsonDwayne Johnson wants all the franchises! He’s already muscled into Fast & Furious and GI Joe, and this summer’s Hercules has plenty of sequel potential. That’s not enough for him though, as Variety reports that Universal Pictures is in early talks with Johnson to star in their adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s novel The Janson Directive.

The studio has been planning a movie adaptation for several years, but while John Hlavin (Underworld Awakening, Risk) was hired to write a script back in 2001, the movie got trapped in development hell. Now Universal is seeking writers to start over, writing specifically for Dwayne Johnson, he will also produce.

The novel, which was published a year after Ludlum’s death in 2001, centres on Paul Janson, a former Navy SEAL and spy for the government agency Consular Operations. Now he makes his living as a security consultant, and takes on a job to rescue a prominent civilian. Things go south when Janson is targeted for assassination, and he follows the clues which uncover a massive conspiracy.

Inevitably, Universal wants this to be a Jason Bourne-esque franchise, hoping that the Ludlum connection can help them catch lightning in a bottle twice.

Disney Plans A Live Action Dumbo Movie

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Dumbo-slideAt this rate Disney is soon going to run out of classic animated movies to turn live-action, as it’s been announced that Transformers writer Ehren Kruger has been hired to pen a live action take on Dumbo for the studio, according to THR.

While the likes of Maleficent, Alice In Wonderland and the upcoming Cinderella made sense for a live action version, Dumbo is a rather different proposition as it barely has any human roles at all, instead focussing of circus animal.

Presumably the idea is to use a mix of CG and real animals to create the baby elephant who is constantly teased for his big ears. After his mother gets locked up for protecting him against bullies, Dumbo hits the road with his mouse pal, Timothy, and eventually learns that he can soar high in the sky, flying with the help of feather he believes in magical.

It’s easy to see why Disney is betting big on these live-action takes on the classic film, as Alice in Wonderland grossen over $1 billion worldwide, and this summer’s Maleficent has already made over $600. With other big budget Disney films like Lone Ranger and John Carter failing, new takes on animated classics seems to be their best bet.

As well as Cinderella coming May 2015, they are also developing The Jungle Book (which should also be out next year), Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.

Gone Girl Trailer – Can you follow the clues of David Fincher’s Ben Affleck mystery?

July 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gone-girl-slideThe first full trailer for David Fincher’s Gone Girl has arrived, along with a few posters, all of which seem designed to give us plenty of clues and up the mystery of this upcoming thriller. Plus we get our first proper look at Neil Patrick Harris in full-on creepy mode for the film.

Ben Affleck plays a husband whose wife (Rosamund Pike) goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance, with the signs of a struggle making many assume he has killed her, especially when reasons emerge as to why he might have wanted her out of the way. However, as we learn more about the couple’s relationship, things become much more complex than they first appear.

Fans of the book will be interested to see how they’re going to handle telling the story in the movie version, as one of the main keys to the novel is that half of it is told in the present by the husband, with the other half being the wife’s diary’s. It’s a structure that allows it to go to unexpected places, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Fincher handles that on screen.

The film is due out autumn 2014. Take a look at the trailer and new posters below. [Read more…]

Jimi: All Is By My Side Trailer – Andre Benjamin takes on a Jimi Hendrix biopic

July 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jimi-all-is-by-my-sideFor many years there’s been talk of a Jimi Hendrix biopic but various issues have stood in the way of getting a major one made. However those have been cleared away for Jimi: All Is By My Side, which sees André Benjamin, aka André 3000 of Outkast as the legendary musician.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘OutKast’s André Benjamin stars as Jimi Hendrix in this revealing biopic from Academy Award-winning writer-director John Ridley (12 Years A Slave). Covering a year in Hendrix’s life from 1966-67 as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York’s Cheetah Club to making his mark in London’s music scene up until his Monterey Pop triumph, the film presents an intimate portrait of the sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend.’

Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell and Burn Gorman also star. It’s due out in the UK in August. [Read more…]

Ben Winchell Gets Shirtless In The First Max Steel Movie Pics

July 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

max-steel-film-pic1For several years a live action movie version of Mattel’s toy and TV show line Max Steel has been in the works. At one point it was planned as a big budget tentpole affair starring Taylor Lautner, but that didn’t work out and it’s ended up as something a bit smaller and interestingly the entire thing is being funded my Mattel themselves.

Now the first pics from the movie have arrived via Moviefone. As you can see above, Max is looking pretty hot, even if he is rather scarred.

Max Steel is about teenager Maxwell McGrath and his alien companion Steel, who can combine special turbo-energy powers to generate into the superhero Max Steel. The film’s plot apparently ‘centers on bringing a positive and relatable hero to kids, drawing upon turbo-charged teamwork, laughter and friendship.’ (And that cringe-inducing quote is what happens when a massive corporation makes a movie).

Ben Winchell plays Max, with Ana Villafañe, Andy Garcia and Maria Bello also starring. It’ll be in cinemas next year.

Take a look at all the new pics below. [Read more…]

Young Irish Actor Sam Keeley Joins Bradley Cooper’s Chef

July 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam-KeeleyLast year two movies called Chef were in development. While Job Favreau’s one is now in cinemas, the other Chef, which is due to star Bradley Cooper, is still in the works, although it’s cast has now grown as Irish actor Sam Keeley has signed on to star.

Omar Sy and Sienna Miller will also star in the film, which is about Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper), a Paris chef who throws his career away because of his hard-partying lifestyle. After the talented chef sobers up, he assembles a crew to put together the best restaurant in the world, in the hope of gaining the rare and highly-coveted three-star Michelin rating.

Keeley will play David, a chef recruited by Adam for his new restaurant, who ends up taking in his new boss when he needs a new place to live.

The up and coming Keeley was previously seen in This Must Be the Place and What Richard Did (which was also the launching pad for (Transformers 2 stars Jack Reynor), and will be in the upcoming Monsters: Dark Continent and Ron Howard’s Heart of the Sea.

batman-v-superman-pic1-slideA couple of days ago the first pic arrived on Henry Cavill on the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set arrived, but that wasn’t from the studio, it was released in support Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.

However now Warner Bros. has followed that up with a very heroic looking shot of Cavill in his full Superman outfit from the film. Shame he couldn’t have found some better weather though.
