New Planes: Fire & Rescue Trailer – Fresh look at Disney upcoming sequel

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Planes may not have grossed $100 million in the US, but thanks to the fact it cost far less than most Disney theatrical movies ($50 million versus, for example, Frozen’s $150 million) it was still a significant success for the company. It also ensures the House Of Mouse put a quick sequel in the works, which will be in cinemas this summer.

Now a new trailer has arrived, along with some great addition to the voice cast, including Ed Harris, Wes Studi, Fred Willard, Jerry Stiller, Erik Estrada, John Michael Higgins, Hal Holbrook, Kevin Richardson and Patrick Warburton.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Planes: Fire & Rescue” is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.’

It’ll be in US cinemas on July 18th and in the UK on August 8th. [Read more…]

Chef Trailer – Jon Favreau serves up something a little more small-scale

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jon Favreau has been making big Hollywood blockbusters for the last few years with the first two Iron Man movies, and he’s also been developing some other grand scale projects such as The Jungle Book and Magic Kingdom.

However he’s now squeezed in something a little smaller and which gives him the chance to both direct and play the lead.

The movie follows a former high class chef (Favreau) who decides to get team up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his best pal (John Leguizamo) and his son (Emjay Anthony) and get a food truck, which he hopes will get him out of the rut he’s stuck in.

The great cast also features Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling and Robert Downey Jr.

Chef is due out in the US on May 9th, before coming to the UK on June 20th. [Read more…]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Character (Arm) Posters Arrive

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

TMNT_UK_Teaser_Donatello-slideWhile these are being described as character posters, they’re more accurately character arm posters – but when those arms are of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they’re still worth a look.

(And after the mixed reaction to the turtles’ new faces in the teaser trailer, it’s perhaps not surprising they’re concentrating on other body parts).

We’ve still got a while to ait for this one though, as the Jonathan Liebesman directed movie doesn’t hit US cinemas until August, while the UK currently has to wait until October (although if the buzz for this one grows, don’t be surprised if it moves up).

Take a look at the posters above and below.

Peter Mayhew May Be Back As Chewbacca In Star Wars Episode VII

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chewbacca-han-soloWhile there’s been a lot of talk about young actor testing for new roles in Star Wars Episode VII, JJ Abrams is making sure a lot of old faces will be back to. It’s almost certain (although interestingly still hasn’t been officially confirmed) that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will be back, and it’s known that RSD2 will also return.

Now it appears another old face will be back, as THR reports that Peter Mayhew will once more play Chewbacca. Rumours of his returns first surfaced last week when he dropped out of a convention appearance due to his filming schedule.

It’s great news, as some as wondered whether the ill health that’s plagued Mayhew in recent years would rule him out of the sequel, but now he’s on the mend and ready to get back in costume.

A couple of days ago it was revealed that shooting on the movie is already underway (although it’s believed to mainly be preparatory shoots), with the casting almost complete. Expect to hear more about who else will be in the movie very soon

Jaden Smith & Jackie Chan Coming Back For Karate Kid 2, With Breck Eisner Directing

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

karate-kid-2010-slideThe Karate Kid remake was a surprise hit on its 2010 release, earning $343 million worldwide. While there was early talk of a sequel, that quietened down after Jaden Smith went off to make After Earth. However now it seems things are moving forward on The Karate Kid 2 once more.

Deadline reports that Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan are attached to reprise their roles in the follow-up, with Breck Eisner (The Crazies) recently signing up to direct the movie.

Back in August 2010, writers Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris (Kung Fu Panda, Robin Hood) were hired to write the script, with Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand) coming onboard for a rewrite in February 2012.

It’s not known what the sequel will be about. The first film followed a youngster (Smith) who moves with his mother (Taraji P. Henson) from Detroit to China. Having trouble settling in and being bullied by his classmate, he is taught kung fu by an eccentric martial arts master (Chan).

Sinister Six Gets Cabin In The Woods Director Drew Goddard

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-poster7Amazing Spider-man director Marc Webb has said that once he’s helmed the third in the series, he’s planning to leave the franchise behind. However Sony have big plans to create an entire Spidey world, including a Sinister Six spin-off.

Now that movie has a director, as Variety reports that Drew Goddard is close to signing a deal to direct The Sinister Six, a spin-off of its The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Cabin In The Woods director Goddard agreed to write the super-villain adventure back in December, but it’s only now that he’s concluding negotiations to direct.

It isn’t known exactly known which villains will be included in The Sinister Six, although Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal recently suggested the major characters will be introduced at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The original version of The Sinister Six in the comics featured Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture and Kraven the Hunter, but there have been all sorts of line-ups for this villainous group over the years.

Sinister Six isn’t the only spin-off in the works, as Sony is also working on a Venom movie.

Mickey Rooney, The Last Silent Movie Star, Dies Aged 93

April 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mickey-rooney-slideMickey Rooney, who’s believed to be the last of the silent movie stars, has died aged 93. He had the longest film career of anyone in cinema history, making his first appearance on-screen in 1926 when he was only five-years-old, while his final film, a remake of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, hasn’t even been released yet.

Rooney started out in the 1920s as the child star of the incredibly popular Mickey McGuire shorts. That segued into a very successful film career as a young adult in the 1930s, which included the Andy Hardy movies. These helped make him the biggest movie star in the world in 1939, and also began a successful on-screen partnership with Judy Garland.

His success continued into the 1940s, leading to him signing up for the Army in World War 2 and spending two years entertaining the troops. While he never matched his all conquering comedy film success after the War, Rooney never went away, often brought in for comic supporting roles in the likes of Breakfast At Tiffany’s (which was controversial from the start as he played a Japanese stereotype) and guest roles in a long list of TV shows.

In more recent years he’s often been called upon for small roles in the likes of Then Muppets and Night At The Museum. Despite his advancing years he always kept busy, including touring a one-man show around the world where he reminisced about his years in the movies.

He had a truly incredible career and he’s one of those people who most of us only remember popping up every now and then in movies looking impressively round and wrinkly. However if you can grab a biography, you realise what an astonishing and busy life he led.

Mickey Rooney – RIP

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn Trailer – Robin Williams really shouldn’t shout at Mila Kunis

April 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Robin Williams normally seems a pretty happy fellow, but as the title suggests, he’s going for a change of emotion in The Angriest Man In Brooklyn.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Some people have bad days. Henry Altmann (Williams) has one every day. Always unhappy and angry at the world including everyone in it, Henry sits impatiently at the doctor’s office when he is finally seen by Dr. Sharon Gill (Mila Kunis). Sharon, who is enduring her own bad day, reveals that Henry has a brain aneurysm. This news makes Henry even angrier, yelling at Sharon he demands to know how much time he has left.

‘Faced with Henry’s anger and insults, Sharon abruptly tells him he has only 90 minutes. Shocked and reeling by this news, Henry storms out of the office leaving Sharon stunned by what she has just done in a lapse of judgment. As Sharon goes on a city-wide search, Henry struggles with his diagnosis, determined to make amends with everyone he has hurt in his life.’

The great cast also includes Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones. It’s out in the US in May. [Read more…]

Godzilla Extended Look – Aaron Taylor-Johnson vs. one enormous monster

April 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If something’s called an ‘Extended Look’, you’d expect it to be longer than a normal trailer, but this isn’t really. It does however feature a decent amount of rather cool new footage, which suggests this is going to be a big movie and a big monster.

I am slightly perplexed though, as Bryan Cranston starts shouting, ‘You’re hiding something out there’, and I’m not entirely sure how you hide something as enormous as Godzilla – he’s the size of a small country.

All will be explained (hopefully) when it hits UK cinemas on May 15th.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

‘Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).’ [Read more…]
