Ghostbusters 3 Is Still Moving Forwards Despite Harold Ramis’ Death

February 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-pic1With the news that Harold Ramis died, many thought that would be the end of the long-gestating and perennially in-development Ghostbusters 3 (although Ramis’ long illness, which he hoped to recover from, may have been one of the reasons it hasn’t moved forward before now, as he would have been unable to participate).

However THR reports that Sony Pictures and director Ivan Reitman are still hoping to move forward with the movie, although there will now have to be a rewrite to take into account Ramis’ passing and the fact he will no longer he able to appear.

Last November it was reported  that Sony was planning to start production this spring in Cleveland, Ohio, although script issues had already pushed that back (you would think after more than five years they’d have something great by now). Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, have been working on the script, and will now have to make some revisions.

While it was believed Bill Murray had refused to return as Peter Venkman, some hope Ramis’ death might act as a catalyst to get him to change his mind. It’s also being suggested the other original stars may even be willing to take lower salaries in order to get the sequel off the ground.

Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga Will Be Back For The Conjuring 2

February 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

conjuring-slideWarner Bros. has announced that The Conjuring 2 is set for release on October 23rd, 2015, giving it a prime Halloween slot. Alongside that news, Variety reports that both Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will return as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Soon after the first movie topped the box office a sequel was announced, but it’s only now that things have started properly coming together. Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes, who wrote the original horror/thriller, have been hard at work coming up with the sequel script. While the first film followed a haunting at a farmhouse, the sequel will look at another case the real-life Warrens investigated.

At the moment it’s not known if James Wan will return to direct.

There’s also a spin-off been announced, which will be a prequel telling the story of the creepy doll that featured in the movie. That film is likely to be out this October, although that’s yet to be confirmed.

Fault In Our Stars Director Josh Boone In Talks For The Stand

February 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stand-stephen-king-book-coverFollowing in the footsteps of the likes of Ben Affleck and Scott Cooper (both of whom have since dropped out), Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is close to singing a deal to write and direct Warner Bros. and CBS Films’ upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, The Stand, according to TheWrap.

Cooper was the last helmer attached, but he left last November over creative differences.

Although impossible to boil down to a simple plot, The Stand’s over-arcing premise sees a plague known as Captain Trips wiping out pretty much everyone in the world. The survivors then begin sharing a dream of a strange, evil figure, and slowly come together to try and defeat the anti-Christ like Randall Flaggs. It’s basically good vs. evil told on a massive, apocalyptic scale. It was turned into a miniseries in 1994, but despite being much loved by many, the huge plot and ensemble narrative have defeated numerous attempts to take it to the big screen.

It isn’t known when they hope to shoot this long-gestating project.

New Godzilla Trailer – The massive lizard is back and causing havoc for Aaron Johnson

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Right from the beginning of this trailer it’s clear that one thing no city (or insurance company) wants is a Godzilla, as they are not conducive to peaceful living and not having enormous holes smacked through buildings. It may be 60 years since Godzilla first started causing havoc, but in this new big budget Hollywood flick he’s certainly not lost his destructive powers (and Aaron Johnson has lost his hotness either).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).’

The film, which is looking pretty cool, is due out in May. [Read more…]

Anthony Mackie’s Falcon Gets A Captain America: The Winter Soldier Poster

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-poster5
A few days ago we got Captain America character posters featuring Steve Roger, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Robert Redford’s Alexander Pierce. Now it’s time for Anthony Mackie’s Falcon to get his own poster. And he’s certainly looking cool.

Sam Wilson, aka Falcon is an ex-military paratrooper who works with veterans in Washington, D.C. Secretly trained by the military in aerial combat using a specially designed wing pack, Falcon becomes an indispensable ally when he teams up with Captain America and Black Widow to run a danger-filled race to halt an impending threat in its tracks.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is produced by Kevin Feige, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp and Hayley Atwell, with Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.’

It’s out in the UK on March 26th, 2014 and a week later in the US.

You can take a look at all five character posters below. [Read more…]

Tom Hardy May Play The Kray Twins (Including The Bisexual One) In Legend

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hardy-slideWe may be getting twice the Tom Hardy in Legend, as Screen Daily reports that he’s in talks to play both of the legendary London gangsters the Kray Twins in Legend.

The film will ‘chart the tortured and unique relationship between gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, the identical twin brothers infamous for their criminal exploits in London during the 1950s and 1960s… The script takes in associates, rivals – such as notorious gangster Jack “the Hat” McVitie, who was murdered by Reginald in 1967 – politician Lord Boothby, and the brothers’ nemesis in the police force, DS Leonard “Nipper” Read, who made it his life’s ambition to put the Krays behind bars.’

The brothers were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults, and several murders, and became infamous in the Swinging Sixties, mixing with celebs and giving off an aura of immunity. However they were eventually arrested in 1968 and sentenced to life in prison.

It’s not known how the film will deal with the sexuality of Reggie Kray, who was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual). He is believed to have been quite open about this even at the height of his gangster exploits, introducing his latest young male conquest to his associates and expecting them to compliment his choice.

LA Confidential screenwriter Brian Helgeland is working on the script and also plans to direct the movie.

We’re the Millers 2 Gets A Writer, With Jason Sudeikis & Jennifer Aniston Expected To Return

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

were-the-millers-preview-pic2After We’re The Millers grossed $269 million around the world you might have expected a sequel to start moving forward in earnest before now. However it’s only now that a writer has been hired to pen a follow-up, with Adam Sztykiel (Due Date) hired to pen the script, according to THR.

The first film followed the misadventures of a drug dealer who realises the only way to get back from Mexico to the US with an RV full of marijuana is to recruit a fake family to help him. However, getting across the border turns out to be the least of their problems. Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, Ed Helms and Will Poulter are all expected to return for the sequel, although not all the deals are in place yet (getting them all lined up appears to be why it’s taken a while to get a sequel moving).

No director is currently attached, although is seems there’s a good chance Rawson Marshall Thurber will be back, as long as the other projects he’s signed up for don’t conflict.

Bryan Cranston & Edgar Ramirez Are Going To Holland, Michigan

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan-CranstonHe may have come to the end of his time as Walter White in Breaking Bad, but it seems Bryan Cranston isn’t completely leaving darkly comic violence behind as it appears he and Edgar Ramirez are set to star in Holland, Michigan, for director for Errol Morris.

The documentarian turned feature director revealed the news during a Reddit AMA (via The Wrap), so there’s been no confirmation from the actors as yet, but Morris seems pretty sure.

The movie already has Naomi Watts set to star as a woman who is deeply wounded when she comes to believe her husband is cheating on her. To get revenge, she decides to begin an affair of her own, but eventually comes to believe that her husband isn’t sleeping with other people, he’s killing them. It appears Cranston will be the husband/killer, while Ramirez will be a co-worker who Watts’ character begins an affair with.

Andrew Sodroski wrote the screenplay, which featured on the Black List.

Sony Already Planning The Equalizer 2, But Will Denzel Washington Return?

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Equalizer-movie-pic1It’s increasingly common for studios to start work on sequels before a first film is out, but it’s still pretty rare to do that with a thriller, especially a full seven months before the film hits cinemas and the studio can tell if it’s actually going to be a hit. However Sony is confident enough about The Equalizer that they’re already developing a sequel, hiring Richard Wenk (The Equalizer, The Expendables 2) to pen a script, according to TheWrap.

Sony is feeling bullish about The Equalizer after a December test screening got the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio’s history. In the big screen take on the 1980s TV series Denzel Washington plays Robert McCall, a former Black Ops commander who lives a quiet life in Boston. When he helps rescue a teenage prostitute (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself going up against deadly Russian mobsters.

Washington only signed up for a single film. While it appears he’s open to signing on for a sequel, Sony is going to have to open its chequebook wide to get him – he’s been known to jump ship before if studios quibble on his asking price. Interestingly though, if he does sign on it will be the actor’s first ever sequel.

As yet no other talent is involved in the sequel, and it’s isn’t known if Antoine Fuqua is interesting in returning to direct. The Equalizer will be in cinemas in September.

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

luke-bracey2-slide
A few weeks ago Gerard Butler signed on to take the Patrick Swayze role in the planned remake of Point Break. Now THR reports someone has been cast in the Keanu Reeves part, as G.I. Joe Retaliation star Luke Bracey will play the role.

He will play Johnny Utah, a young FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a crime syndicate who are involved in the world of international extreme sports. Butler will play Bodhi, who’s involved in the crimes and whose influence ends up with Utah questioning what side he should be on.

Ericson Core (Invincible) is directing from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer’s. Principal photography is set to begin early this summer.

Bracey will next be seen in the upcoming Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Best of Me, which co-stars Michelle Monaghan and James Marsden.
