Chris & Liam’s Bro Luke Hemsworth To Make Film Debut In The Reckoning

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Luke-HemsworthLuke Hemsworth may be the older brother of Chris and Liam, but he hasn’t seen the international success of his younger siblings. However he’ll be hoping to remedy that by making his first feature acting debut in The Reckoning, according to Variety.

The movie is about two detectives (Luke Hemsworth and Jonathan LaPaglia) who are looking for a couple of runaways who have shot video footage of a murder. Jonathan LaPaglia is the younger brother of actor Anthony LaPaglia, so it really is a movie for the siblings of famous Aussies.

John V. Soto is directing from his own original screenplay. Production is scheduled to begin April 29 in Perth, Australia. Luke Hemsworth has previously starred in Australian TV shows such as Neighbours. Who knows, perhaps in a few years he’ll be headed for Hollywood too.

A Pacific Rim isn’t based on a book, toy or previous movie, Warner Bros. is working hard to try and sell the concept to audiences. Now they’ve released a new poster highlighting the Japanese Jaeger (giant robot) known as Coyote Tango.

Guillermo Del Toro directs this sci-fi action-thriller, which is set 15 years after enormous kaiju monsters began attacking Earth from some sort of portal deep in the Pacific. This leads each major country to build their own gigantic robot known as a jaeger, to combat these nefarious beasts. In the new postr, Coyote Tango is show trying to defend his war-torn city.

Pacific Rim comes to theaters July 12th, 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman and Robert Kazinsky.

Hugh Jackman’s Got His Claws Out In A New Wolverine Poster

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

It doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman’s Logan is simply going to be having a nice holiday in Japan in the upcoming The Wolverine, as this poster shows him on his knees, with his claws out, screaming into a storm.

It’s a pretty good poster, and suggests that this will be less popcorn nonsense that X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

It hits cinemas in July.

New World War Z Trailer Hits – Plus zombies attack a helicopter in a new poster

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite a rather troubled production history, with the entire final part of the movie needing to be reshot, World War Z certainly looks like it’s going to be worth a look, with the trailers suggesting a zombie movie on a scale we’ve never seen before.

Now a new promo has arrived, with a bit more plot, plenty of Brad Pitt and an awful lot of relentless zombies. It also appears to be the year of trailers featuring people being sucked out of planes, as that’s what happens here, just a few weeks after something similar happened in the Iron Man 3 trailer.

There’s also a new poster, featuring the undead attacking a helicopter, which you can see above. The film hits cinemas June 21st.

Hummingbird Trailer – Something a little different from Jason Statham

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason Statham’s movie output has largely been a series of identikit films, with the plot slightly changing but the action and The Stath’s character largely staying the same. However Hummingbird may be something a little different, showing his softer side.

The movie sees him an ex-Special Forces soldier who tries to avoid a court martial, but ends up homeless on the streets. He attempts to reinvent himself by breaking into a rich businessman’s apartment, but soon finds himself dragged back into the criminal underworld.

The movie is the feature film directing debut of Steven Knight, who’s best known for writing Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things, which certainly suggest this will be more of an acting challenge for Statham than normal.

Dave Franco & Christopher Mintz-Plasse Join Seth Rogen & Zac Efron In Townies

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dave-francoThe cast of Townies is growing into a bit of a Superbad reunion, with Deadline reporting that Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Dave Franco have both joined Seth Rogen in the comedy Townies. They’ll star alongside Zac Efron and Rose Byrne in the movie.

Rogen will play a man who lives close to a fraternity house, which is led by the raucous Efron, and reaches a breaking point with their wild antics. Byrne is set to play the man’s wife, who’s the sensible adult in the relationship.

Franco will be the vice president of the fraternity, who’s also Efron’s best friend. Deadline doesn’t say who Mintz-Plasse will be – so he could be either on the fraternity’s side or Rogen’s.

Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien wrote the script, with Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) set to direct. There’s no news on when it might shoot, but with the cast growing, it probably won’t be too long.

Chris O’Dowd’s career continues to flourish with the news that he’s in talks to join Ted Melfi’s movie St. Vincent De Van Nuys, according to Deadline, which would see him star alongside Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy.

The film is about a hard-working single mother (McCarthy) who hands her child over to a cantankerous old man (Murray) to watch over him while she tries to make ends meet with her various jobs. O’Dowd will play the local parish priest, who counsels the old man. He’d sympathetic to the situation, but shocked at all of the horrible habits and lessons Murray’s character chooses to pass down to the impressionable 12-year-old kid.

Shooting on the indie movie is set to star this July.

The Croods Tops The US Box Office, With Olympus Has Fallen Beating Expectations

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

croods-preview2After DreamWorks Animation was forced to make tonnes of redundancies last month following the failure of Rise Of The Guardians, they’ll have a bit of cheer this morning with the news that The Croods has topped the US box office with $44 million. It’s a decent start, which is about on par with the studio’s Megamind and How To Train Your Dragon.

Also doing well was second place finisher Olympus Has Fallen. Audiences obviously liked the idea of Gerard Butler fighting terrorists in the White House, as the film took more than almost anyone had predicted, with $30 million in its first three days. It’s great news for Butler, whose star power has been in the balance after a string of flops.

There was less cheer for Admission, which tanked with just $6.4 million on its opening. That’s the lowest start for any Tina Fey live-action movie.

After a great start in three cinemas last week, Spring Breakers expanded onto 1,100 screens and into the top 10 with $5 million. It’s certainly not bad for a movie from a tiny, indie distributor, which has been relying on word of mouth to gets its name out there.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of March 22nd-24th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 The Croods $44.7 $44.7
2 Olympus Has Fallen $30.5 $30.5
3 Oz The Great And Powerful $22.0 $177.5
4 The Call $8.7 $30.9
5 Admission $6.4 $6.4
6 Spring Breakers $5.0 $5.4
7 The Incredible Burt Wonderstone $4.2 $17.3
8 Jack The Giant Slayer $2.9 $59.0
9 Identity Thief $2.5 $127.7
10 Snitch $1.9 $40.3

Riddick Teaser – First look at the Vin Diesel sequel

March 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After The Chronicles Of Riddick bombed, most thought that would be the last we’d see of the character of Riddick, but Vin Diesel and director David Twohy really love the character and so have stripped back the budget for a third movie featuring the character. Now the first, very brief, teaser is here.

And it is very brief, just 22 seconds, but the images it shows look pretty cool.

Here’s the plot synopsis: ‘In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

‘The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.’

It should hit cinemas this autumn. [Read more…]

Charlize Theron Up For Ladies Night, With Fred Savage Directing

March 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlize-theronMost people probably still think of Fred Savage as the kid from The Wonder Years and The Princess Bride, but in more recent years he’s had a successful career as a director, helming episodes of TV shows such as 2 Broke Girls and Modern Family amongst many others, as well as the movie Daddy Day Camp.

Now he’s got a feature film project, as he’s in talks to direct Ladies Night, which has Charlize Theron signed on to star and produce, according to THR.

Happy Endings creator David Caspe wrote the screenplay, which was developed at Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah company, along with Beth Kono and A.J. Dix. The movie is about a woman (Theron) who decides to start a new life in New York City, largely due to her boyfriend’s inability to commit to the relationship. She has one final night out on the town with her girlfriends before making the big move.

Shooting is tentatively slated to begin in early 2014.
