The Dark Tower Trailer – Matthew McConaughey & Idris Elba face-off in the Stephen King adaptation

May 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After years in development, the trailer for the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has finally arrived, along with a couple of rather cool character posters. You can take a look at them below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen.  The last Knight Warrior, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.’

The movie hits cinemas in August. Watch the trailer below. [Read more…]

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Character Posters Debut

May 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is one of the big unknowns of the summer. Director Luc Besson must believe in it, as it’s know the most expensive French movie ever made, with an estimated budget of over $200 million.

The trailers have looked impressive, but it’s going to need to make an awful lot of money to make a profit, and considering it’s based on a property that’s not desperately well-known outside France, it’s tough to know how audiences will respond. Now a new set of character posters have arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other.  There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.’ [Read more…]

Take Your First Look At Kenneth Branagh’s Star-Studded Murder On The Orient Express

May 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Kenneth Branagh was putting together his new filmic take on Agatha Christie’s classic Murder On The Orient Express, quite a few big-name stars came and went, including Angelina Jolie. However, he ended up with quite a cast, including Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Olivia Colman, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., and Branagh himself and the famed Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot.

Now we’ve got out first look at the movie, via EW, which suggests plenty of 1930s glamour, while Branagh and his impressive facial hair suggest a more hard-nosed version of Poirot than we’re used to.

Christie’s novel is about a death on the world’s most famous train, when a man known as Mr. Ratchett is stabbed 12 times and killed. Hercule Poirot, who happens to be travelling on the Orient Express, starts to investigate, discovering that many people could be the culprit – which is where all the new movie’s other famous faces come in.

The movie is due out in November. Take a look at the first pics below. [Read more…]

Melissa McCarthy Joins Henson Puppet Noir, The Happytime Murders

May 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a few years The Jim Henson Company has been working on The Happytime Murders, but despite plans to shoot in 2010 and 2012, and stars likes Katherine Heigl and Cameron Diaz linked to it at various times, the project has remained stuck in development hell. This time last year it seemed things were moving forward, as Jamie Foxx was circling the lead role.

It doesn’t look like he’s involved any more, but instead another great talent has come onboard, with Variety reporting that Melissa McCarthy is set to star. She comments, “When a really good script combines puppet strippers, Los Angeles’ underbelly, and comedy, it’s like my fever dream has finally come true.”

The basic concept of the film is that it’s set in a world where puppets are second-class citizens, but just as likely to get into booze, drugs and sex as any of their human counterparts. When the puppet cast of 1980s children’s TV show The Happytime Gang begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet (who has a drinking problem), Phil, takes the case with his former human partner. It’s been descibed as Avenue Q meets LA Confidential, which is quite a mash-up.

Jim Henson’s son Brian is set to direct the movie, which is due to finally start shooting in August.

Ewan McGregor Will Be Grown-Up Christopher Robin In Winnie the Pooh Sequel

April 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As well as live-action movies based on their feature-length animated classics, Disney has been working on a live-action Winnie The Pooh movie. Now that film has found its Christopher Robin, with THR reporting that Ewan McGregor is in talks to star.

As you may have guessed, this is planned as a movie about Chrisopher Robin as an adult, having left the hundred-acre wood behind many years before. He is now an adult who ‘has lost his sense of imagination and is a businessman focused on work and success.’ As you might expect, things begin to change when Winnie, Piglet and co. come back into his life.

Marc Forster (World War Z, Finding Neverland) is set to direct, with Disney having just brought in Hidden Figures’ Allison Schroeder to rewrite the script. It’s not known yet when we might get to see the movie.

New Cars 3 Trailer – Lightning McQueen isn’t the young hotshot anymore

April 26, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While we’ve had a couple of promos for Disney/Pixar’s Cars 3, they haven’t actually shown us a huge amount of the movie, other than Lightning McQueen have an almighty crash. However a new trailer gives us a far better taste of the upcoming film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!’

The movie will be in cinemas this summer. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Kingsman: The Golden Circle Trailer – Taron Egerton is back & meeting his American counterparts

April 26, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kingsman was a bigger success than most had expected. It was more than enough to get it a sequel, which will be released later this year. Along with the return of British agents Taron Egerton and Colin Firth (yes, he will return), we will be introduced to the Statesmen, the US version of the Kingsmen.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

Alongside the returning Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and Mark Strong, will be newcomers Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, with Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges [Read more…]

New Baywatch Trailer – Zac Efron gets all dragged-up, Audrey Hepburn style

April 26, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the first couple of trailer, the most noticeable thing was how Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson seemed to be in competition as to who could have the body that looked most like it was too muscled for a real human. However, the thing that will be distracting you is this one, is Efron going undercover in drag, and looking like he’s modelled himself on Audrey Hepburn.

The film itself is, of course, based on the hit 90s TV series. As you might expect being taken from show that’s known for being pretty cheesy, the film keeps it’s tongue firmly in its cheek. And yes, there is some slo-mo running in swimsuits. The movies follows ‘devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.’

Take a look at the new trailer below, which was first tweeted out by The Rock himself. Baywatch will be in cinemas on May 29th. [Read more…]

Ang Lee’s Clone Thriller Gemini Man Is Courting Will Smith

April 26, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ang Lee’s last film, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, didn’t get the same critical reaction as many of his earlier movie. For his next movie, he’s in talks to go in a rather different direction and a genre he’s never really touched before – sci-fi. But then, Lee has always liked to try new things, as his back catalogue has ranged from historical drama and war films, to tragic romances and rom-coms.

Recently it was revealed Ang is in negotiation to helm Gemini Man, and now THR adds that Will Smith may be the man who’ll star in the movie.

Gemini Man itself has a long history, as it’s been around since 1997, when Disney bought the original pitch from Darren Lemke. Since then it’s been through numerous hands and incarnations. The latest is Skydance Pictures, which is hoping that bringing Lee and Smith onboard will finally help get the movie made.

The film itself ‘centers on an aging assassin who finds himself in a battle with the ultimate opponent: his clone, who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities.’ It’s not known when we might see the movie.

Billy Eichner & Seth Rogen Will Be Live-Action Lion King’s Timon & Pumbaa

April 26, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jon Favreau is busy putting together the voice cast for his live-action take on The Lion King, and he’s just found the men he want to be Simba’s warthog and meerkat pals, Timon and Pumbaa. TheWrap reports that Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will take on the roles.

They join Donald Glover as Simba, with James Earl Jones returning to play his father, Mufasa. It rumoured that the makers want Beyonce to play Simba’s mother Nala, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

In the 1994 animated movie, Timon and Pumbaa were voiced by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella. Although Billy Of The Street’s Eichner and Bad Neighbours’ Rogen seem somewhat different to those two on the surface, they do have a similar energy and could be a lot of fun in the roles.

What’s not known yet is whether the movie will follow Beauty and the Beast’s reinvention of the animated movie as a full-on musical, or whether it will remove most (if not all) of the tunes, like Favreau’s Jungle Book. You have to hope that at the very least, we get to hear Eichner and Rogen’s take on Hakuna Matata.

It’s expected that the movie will shoot this year, although no release date is currently set.
