The clips that have been released from Avengers Assemble have certainly helped to up the anticipation for the movie – not that it needs it, as tracking is already suggesting a $150 million plus US opening weekend! The latest clip sees Loki imprisoned and in a battle of words with Nick Fury. Clcik to take a look. The film hits UK cinemas on April 26th.

David O’Russell Up For Buddy Cianci Biopic
In the UK, if you’ve heard of Buddy Cianci at all, it’s because the school Family Guy’s Chris Griffin used to attend is named after him, but in the US, he’s famed for being one of the most colourful politicians around. Now the LA Times reports that David O’Russell has signed on to direct a biopic of the former Providence, Rhode Island mayor.
Just from the title of his memoir, you can get an idea of why Cianci might be worth making a film about, as it’s called, ‘Politics And Pasta: How I Prosecuted Mobsters, Rebuilt A Dying City, Advised A President, Dined With Sinatra, Spent Five Years In A Federally Funded Gated Community And Lived To Tell The Tale’. Cianci was mayor twice, but was forced to resign both times due to charges that led to felony convictions, once for assault and the second time for racketeering conspiracy (running a corrupt criminal enterprise due to the dodgy practices that were tolerated during his mayorship), for which he spent four years in prison.
It’s a slightly Boardwalk Empire type story, with Cianci always thought to be a bit of a wiseguy, corrupt character, but still much loved by the electorate.
Robert De Niro and his producing partner Jane Rosenthal are developing the film via their Tribeca company, with Russell attached to direct and help work on the script. It’ll now go onto O’Russell’s pile, which also includes a Russ Meyer biopic, the comedy drama Old St Louis, and the congressional sting drama American Bullshit.
Jennifer Connelly & Saoirse Ronan Rumoured For Aronofsky’s Noah
The last time Jennifer Connelly teamed up with director Darren Aronofsky, for Requiem For A Dream, it didn’t exactly go well for her character. Hopefully things will go a little better for her if rumours are true the Connelly is in talks to star in Aronofsky’s Noah – even if the film is dealing with the death of virtually every human on the planet.
The Tracking Board has the news, and says that Paramount is also showing interest in Saoirse Ronan for a supporting role. Jennifer Connelly will play Naameh, the wife of Russell Crowe’s title character, with the film giving an action-packed take on the biblical story of The Flood. As for Ronan’s charcter, it isn’t known which character she would play, or indeed whether an offer has been made to the actress yet.
Darren Aronofsky will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ari Handel, with production scheduled to begin in June.
Mark Ruffalo Set To Be A Foxcatcher
Foxcatcher has been in the works for years, and while it moved a bit closer to the screen last year when Steve Carell and Channing Tatum signed on to star, it still haven’t gone in front of the camera. Now it’s taken one step closer, as The Avengers star Mark Ruffalo has joined the cast.
In the based on a true story tale, Ruffalo will play Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, with the film charting his relationship with John du Pont (Carell), who shot and killed him in 1996. John du Pont was the heir to the Du Pont chemical empire, but was also a paranoid schizophrenic. Schultz was a longtime friend to du Pont, who repeatedly tried to get him help before du Pont killed him. Channing Tatum will play Schultz’s younger brother, Mark, who was also an Olympic wrestler.
Production is scheduled to begin this October in Pittsburgh, with Bennett Miller (Moneyball) directing.
Julianne Moore In Talks For Carrie Remake
It may be called Carrie, but the juiciest role in both Stephen King’s book and the 1976 book is the lead character’s mother – indeed it gave Piper Laurie a rare horror movie acting Oscar nomination. Now MGM’s planned remake may have found its harridan of a mom in the form of Julianne Moore, according to Bloody Disgusting.
Chloe Moretz is set to star as the title character, a troubled teenage girl who uses her telekinetic abilities to get revenge on the classmates who tormented her. Moore will play Carrie’s deranged mother, who is more terrifying and damaging to her daughter the the school bullies.
Kimberly Peirce (Boy Don’t Cry) is directing from a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The plan is to start shooting as soon as possible in order to hit the March 15, 2013 release date MGM has already set for it.
Lucas Till Joins Liam Hemsworth In Paranoia
A few days ago it was revealed that Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, and Gary Oldman were all attached to the thriller Paranoia, and now Variety reports they’ve got some company as X-Men: First Class’ Lucas Till is in talks to join the cast.
Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, the film is about a junior manager (Hemsworth) at the fictional Wyatt Telecom, who ‘liberates’ some of the company’s money to fund a buddy’s retirement party. After getting caught, he’ll have to go to prison unless he agrees to infiltrate Wyatt’s biggest competitor, Trion Systems, to discover what he can about their top secret project. Lucas Till will play a co-worker/friend of Liam Hemsworth’s character.
Robert Luketic is directing from a screenplay by Jason Dean Hall, with the plan being to shoot it sometime this summer.
Emily Blunt Says All You Need Is Kill Alongside Tom Cruise
Emily Blunt isn’t an actress who’s immediately comes to mind for sci-i action, although she did okay with the subtle sci-fi in The Adjustment Bureau. However now she’s planning a bit more intense alien action, as Variety reports that she’s in talks to star in All You Need is Kill (which some sources say has been retitled We Mortals Are, although it’s not 100% clear whether it has) for Warner Bros. and director Doug Liman.
The film is about a soldier (Tom Cruise) who finds himself reliving his last day over and over again after being killed by aliens in a long-running war. Each time he comes back to life, he finds himself becoming a better fighter (as in a video game). Blunt will play a woman who fights alongside his character.
Doug Liman is directing from a screenplay by Dante Harper. It isn’t known when production will begin on this sci-fi tale.
New Posters: Wreck-It Ralph & The Amazing Spider-man
Disney is certainly taking a bit of a risk with Wreck-It Ralph, although it could turn out to be something very special. It’s tough to know though whether the poster above (revealed via MSN) will attract many average moviegoers, although I’m sure the House Of Mouse will be providing more stuff to entice them in due course, before the film hits US cinemas in November.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Wreck-It Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his video game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?’
Yahoo! has also debuted the final posters for The Amazing Spider-man, which is out July 4th, and you can see them below.
New Hysteria Trailer – Maggie Gyllenhaal helps invent the vibrator
The complicated sexual mores of the Victorians have always been of interest to slightly prurient tastes, and Hysteria gives a bit of a comic look at the odd contradictions of the time. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy star in this cheeky romantic comedy about the invention of the vibrator. Victorian London is brought to life in vivid colour as a young doctor (Dancy) struggles to establish himself while confronting the gutsy daughter of his boss (Gyllenhaal). Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones play supporting roles.’ The vibrator was originally developed to help treat ‘female hysteria’ (believe it or not, back then many doctors manually stimulated ladies to orgasm, which was viewed as a purely medical practice to treat nervous conditions, and not sexual at all). No UK release date is currently set.
New The Amazing Spider-man International Trailer
Although early reports suggested Sony wanted a lower budget Spider-man with their Marc Webb directed reboot, the latest round of trailers certainly suggest it won’t be any less spectacular and also injects some of the humour of Spidey that was lacking from Sam Raimi’s film. In the film, Peter Parker finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner, who is also the villainous Lizard. The movie’s out July 4th.
