Fresh Looks At Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck & Jesse Eisenberg In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

July 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-pic2It feels like we’ve already had a lot of marketing for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, even though it’s not due out until March 2016. However Warner/DC has a lot riding on it, as they’re hoping that it will help launch a massive comic book universe to rival Marvel’s with nine further movies already planned over the next few year.

The latest look at the movie is via Empire, who’ve debuted some new pics giving us great looks at Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. You can see those pics below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.’ [Read more…]

Hugh Jackman Shares First Wolverine Sequel Pic As He Prepares To Bid Goodbye To The Character

July 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wolverine-sequel-promo-pic1Fox has a lot of X-Men in the works, with Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and possibly Gambit next year, and then a currently untitled Wolverine sequel set for 2017. Plus there’s talk of X-Men and Fantastic Four crossing over.

While the Wolverine movie – which Hugh Jackman has said will be his last time playing the character – hasn’t gone in front of the camera yet, the actor has released a promo pic via Twitter, along with the message ‘My last time putting on the claws. What do you want to see happen? 50 words or less. I’ll read as many as I can.’

It’s not been confirmed what the movie will be about, but rumours suggest it will be based on the Old Man Logan storyline, which is set at a time when Wolverine is trying to live a quiet, simple life in a world dominated by superviallian, but is pulled back into the world of mutants when he’s asked to help deliver a package. James Mangold will once more direct.

Rachel McAdams Top Choice For The Female Lead In Marvel’s Doctor Strange

July 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rachel-mcadamsFor quite some time now Benedict Cumberbatch has been attached to play the title role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, but it’s only now they’re properly looking for a female lead to star opposite him, and according to Variety (confirming earlier rumours), Rachel McAdams is the top choice.

McAdams had previously suggested she was in contention for the film, telling the LA Times a few days ago, “It’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all.” However if she takes the role, it’s not clear who she will play.

Scott Derrickson is set to direct the movie which follows the title character, Doctor Strange (Cumberbatch), who is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also set to star.

The film will shoot this year, with a November 2016 release set.

Add the Words Trailer – Looking at the changes for gay people in a conservative US state

July 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

add-the-wordsAdd the Words recently screened at the Outfest LGBT film festival in LA. However if you’re elsewhere in the US, you don’t been to be at the fest to watch it, as thanks to a team-up between Outfest and DirectTV as selection of film, including Add The Words is streaming for free.

However if you’re outside the US or in American and want to know whether it’s worth a watch, take a look at the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Since 2006 the LGBT community and human rights supporters have asked Idaho lawmakers to add the words sexual orientation and gender identity to the Idaho Human Rights Act. It is still lawful in this state to fire someone or refuse services or housing because of how they identify.

‘For 8 years Nicole LaFavor, Idaho’s first openly Gay Legislator, was told, “we can’t this year because of the political climate. But behave, and we will get to it next year.”

‘Eight years later, supporters of Add The Words are no longer BEHAVING!

‘With their left hands covering their mouths to symbolize how the Idaho legislators have worked to silence them. They have begun an effective civil disobedience campaign.

‘This documentary is their story.’

Back On Board: Greg Louganis Clips – Take a look at the upcoming doc about the gay former diver

July 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Back-On-Board-Greg-LouganisGreg Louganis is a legend in the US, particularly thanks to his incredible feat of becoming the first man in Olympic history to sweep the diving events in consecutive Olympic Games, winning four golds, along with five World Championship titles.

Since then he’s become a legend in a different way, for being a bit of a trailblazer in the gay rights movement and being one of the most high profile figures living with HIV. The docuemntary, Back On Board: Greg Louganis will take a look at the sportman, and we’ve got a couple of clips you can watch beloe.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Now 55, Greg Louganis was adopted before his first birthday and grew up in Southern California, taking up diving at age nine. Throughout a difficult childhood, he was forced to deal with depression, bullying and prejudice.

‘Louganis won the silver medal in the 10M Platform event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal at age 16. In 1978, his diving skills earned him a scholarship to the University of Miami. Three years later, following the United States boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, where Louganis would have been the favorite in two diving events, he returned to Southern California to finish his degree and diving career at the University of California, Irvine.

‘He became a full-fledged international diving star in 1984. At the Summer Games in Los Angeles, Louganis won gold medals in the 10M Platform and 3M Springboard events. Four years later in Seoul, he became the only male diver in history to win those events in back-to-back Olympic Games.

‘In one of the most notable moments of his storied career, Louganis suffered a cut on his head when he hit the diving board during a preliminary round of the Seoul Games, but went on to win his gold medals days later. Though the American public originally lauded Louganis for his competitive spirit, it was not known at the time that he had tested positive for HIV six months earlier. When Louganis later announced that he was HIV-positive, it sparked outrage over his original non-disclosure of the virus and sparked a nationwide conversation about HIV/AIDS and sports.

‘Greg Louganis announced to the world that he was gay in the mid-1990s, but it was a not a well-kept secret in the diving world before that. During his dominance in the 1980s, many sponsors knew of his sexual orientation, which limited his marketability – just one example of the homophobia and hateful rhetoric that followed him long before and after his official announcement that he was gay.

‘Ending a prolonged absence from the diving world, Louganis has returned to mentor the next generation of American divers. BACK ON BOARD: GREG LOUGANIS offers unprecedented access to the Olympian as he struggles with financial security and reunites with the sport that he once dominated, but did not feel accepted in. The film examines the good times and bad times, including the choices, relationships and missed opportunities Louganis has experienced throughout his career as a sports pioneer.’

The film premieres on HBO in the US on August 4th. [Read more…]

Freeheld Trailer – Julianne Moore & Ellen Page fight for gay rights

July 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

freeheld-slideThere are going to be a few gay-themed movies lining up in the hoping of scoring award nominations (and perhaps wins), including Roland Emmeric’s Stonewall, as well as Freeheld. The trailer for the latter has now arrived, and you can watch it below.

In the true life tale, Page plays mechanic Stacie Andree, who was denied the pension benefits of her longtime partner and New Jersey police detective Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), when the latter became terminally ill. While Hester’s detective partner, Dane Wells (Michael Shannon), was conservative and initially surprised to learn of Hester’s sexual orientation, he stepped up to become the leader in the fight for Laurel’s rights to assign her benefits to Stacie. Steve Carell meanwhile plays the lawyer who helped take the case to court.

Director Pete Sollett told Buzzfeed, “The political story and the personal story are one for me. It’s always our own sort of issues that pop up when we’re falling in love. But unfortunately on top of those, these women had to deal with the prejudice and the obstacles set up for them by their local government. But for me, they’re one in the same: The personal is the political.”

The movie is out in the US in October. [Read more…]
