Irrational Man Trailer – Joaquin Phoenix & Emma Stone star in Woody Allen’s latest

April 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

irrational-man-emma-stone-joaquin-phoenixIt’s time for our first look at Woody Allen’s annual movie, and coming off the Oscar-winning triumph of Blue Valentine he’s brining us Irrational Man, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Parker Posey.

As always with Allen there aren’t too many details about the movie, but Phoenix will play a philosophy professor who’s suffering from an existential crisis which results in him wondering what the point of life is. However then – and this will be a shock for Allen fans – he meets a younger woman, strikes up a friendship, who changes his life.

It’s not exactly groundbreaking territory for Woody, and as so often in his films, it feels like Joaquin in playing an Allen analogue. Whether it’ll work this time around should become clearer soon as it’s due to premiere at Cannes in mid-May. [Read more…]

April 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mad-max-fury-road-character-poster1-slideAfter a very, very long wait, it’s just a couple of weeks until we get to see the reinvention of Mad Max, with Tom Hardy taking over the role from Mel Gibson in Fury Road.

To make sure we know this is going to be a film that’s just as nuts as the earlier movie, while ramping up the style and the budget, a final trailer has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” revisits his own post-apocalyptic trilogy featuring the anti-hero known as Mad Max. Tom Hardy stars in the role of Max Rockatansky, alongside Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Hugh Keays-Byrne and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Miller directed from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller also produces, along with Doug Mitchell and P.J. Voeten. Iain Smith, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers. “Mad Max: Fury Road” is a Kennedy Miller Mitchell production. The film will be presented by Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures. Scheduled for release on May 15, 2015, it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.’ [Read more…]

Jeff Daniels Joins Divergent Series In A Key Role

April 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-danielsJeff Daniels has left The Newsroom behind and following a bit of a hit with Dumb and Dumber To, he’s heading into teen action territory, as he’s signed up to star in the two-part conclusion to the Divergent series, Allegiant, according to THR.

Daniels is taking on a bit of a pivotal role, although if you don’t want to know how he fits into the world of fighting factions who don’t like those who straddle different personality types, you should stop reading now.

He’ll be David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, which set up the system where everyone is sorted into the factions of Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity, and Candor. As you may have guessed, their motives in doing this may not have been totally altruistic.

The films will see Tris (Shailene Woodley) on the run and trying to figure out the mystery of the world she was born into. Allegiant: Part 1 will be out March 2016, with Part 2 coming a year later.

Star Trek Actress Alice Eve Criticised For Suggesting Bruce Jenner Is ‘Playing At Being A Woman’

April 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alice-EveTodays edition of celebrities saying immensely dumb and offensive things while thinking they’re being provocative, features Star Trek and She’s Out Of My League actress Alice Eve.

She decided that denigrating Bruce Jenner’s gender transition would be a good way to highlight women’s rights issues by taking to Instagram to say, “If you [Jenner] were a woman no one would have heard of you because women can’t compete in the decathlon. Where to order Cialis Italia at https://www.collegiomarino.it/top.html cheapest tadalafil pills no prescription in Italy. You would be a frustrated young athlete who wasn’t given a chance.

“Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a ‘woman’ while retaining the benefits of being a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men? Then, my friend, you are a woman.”

It’s an immensely stupid thing to say, as while Jenner is in a somewhat unique position, he still faced an extremely uncertain reaction by going public. It also ignores that many transgender people face a far worse work situation and pay gap than between sis men and women. They also face a far higher risk of violence, murder and open discrimination.

Eve’s post was taken down after a firestorm of criticism from her followers, with Alice quickly backing down and trying to suggest that she was too quick to post and that it should now be a learning moment.

She went on to say that, “I do agree that the struggle for transgenders is unique and horrific. However, I do want to also support a cause I strongly believe in, the right for women to have equal rights to men… The transgender equality struggle is the next one, as we all know. And very real it is, too.”

Those posts were also removed after a lot more criticism. After all, she was essentially suggesting that women’s rights are superior to those of transgender people, while still managing to make it sound that mtf transgender people can’t be women, and that you can’t support both womens rights and transgender rights simultaneously.

She then had another go, saying, “I’m not saying by identifying they are negatively impacting feminism, I am saying that we have to refine the language on this topic so all men, women and transgenders are accurately represented in their process of self-identification.”

Whatever that is supposed to mean.

She then added, “Maybe this needs a little thought. Thank you for engaging with me on this subject, because I felt confused and now I feel enlightened and like I know what education I need to move forward.”

It’s one of those situations where someone probably wasn’t speaking out of deliberate malice, but simply had no idea what they’re talking about and ended up saying something intensely stupid and offensive. Indeed she, like many of Jenner’s detractors, may have been unable get past the Kardashian connection and therefore thinks of Bruce’s statements as being some kind of publicity stunt, without even considering what he was actually saying, and that despite the reality shows, he’s still a real, living human being.

(And just in case anyone isn’t aware, Jenner has asked that for the time being he is still referred to publicly as Bruce and that male pronouns should be used).

Folsom Forever Trailer – Looking at the history of the gay leather scene’s Folsom Street Fair

April 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Folsom-Forever-slideSan Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair is one of those things that many of us have heard of, but the closest most of us are likely to have gotten were the scenes in the first season of Looking, or certain naughty videos that pop up online from the goings on there.

Even those who’ve attended probably know little about the history – and that’s where Folsom Forever comes along. It’s take a look at the annual event and where it came from, which has its roots in the AIDS epidemic and the need some in the gay S&M community had to say it wasn’t their fault, and that they should be able to be proud too.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In 1984, a scrappy little neighborhood in San Francisco – home to many low-income tenants and the heart of the gay male leather scene – faced destruction from the bulldozers of redevelopment and the AIDS crisis. The Folsom Street Fair was started to call attention to gentrification and raise money for AIDS charities. Folsom Forever tells the story of how this small street fair grew into the biggest outdoor kink and fetish event in the world, and managed to do a lot of good along the way. Coming to DVD and VOD June 9, 2015.’ [Read more…]

chocolate-city-poster-slideMaybe it’ll be the summer of male strippers on screen. Magic Mike XXL hits cinemas in July, and there’s also Chocolate City, which will be released on the big screen and VoD on May 22nd in the US.

The latter movie follows a group of African American male strippers and has a great cast including Michael Jai White, Tyson Beckford, Vivica A. Fox, Carmen Electra and Robert Ri’chard.

Women go wild as these toned, talented men make fantasies come true… and the arrival of a young, new exotic dancer (Robert Ri’chard) has the spot sizzling like never before. At home, he is Michael, an inner city college student struggling to help his mother (Vivica A. Fox) make ends meet. However, when his part-time job doesn’t pay the bills, Michael begins to find success at a nightclub dancing as “Sexy Chocolate.” As the money starts rolling in, Michael must deal with the unexpected pressure of being the female clubgoers’ favorite flavor while hiding his new “job” from his mother and girlfriend. The Visit Trailer – Plus a poster for M. Night Shyamalan’s movie

April 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Visit-posterM. Night Shyamalan isn’t quite the name he was in the years after The Sixth Sense, but he’s still one of the few writer/directors who you can sell a film on the strength of their name. That certainly seems true of The Visit, which wants to suggest it’ll take us back to the world of twisty-turny thrillers he’s known for.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.’

Now the first poster and trailer have arrived, which you can see above and below. It’ll be out in UK cinemas September 11th. [Read more…]

First Pics Of Daniel Radcliffe & James McAvoy On The Victor Frankenstein Set

April 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

victor-frankenstein-pic1Over two years ago Daniel Radcliffe signed on to be the Igor in a new Frankenstein movie, and it was July 2013 when James Mcavoy joined him as the infamous mad scientist. It’s taken a while to get things together but now the movie is heading towards a September UK release, and Empire has posted the first images from the set of the film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘James McAvoy is Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe stars as Igor in a unique, never-before-seen twist on Mary Shelley’s classic 19th century novel. Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man—and the legend—we know today.’

McAvoy comments, “As much as the monster is his creation, Igor is his creation as well. That was quite exciting. It’s funny, the script, but also really dark, in a cool way.”

It’s an interesting idea and it’ll be interesting to see if it works. As it has a script by Max Landis (Chronicle), hopefully it will.
