April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

The Expendables are coming back for one last hurrah, and to prove this one may have the best cast yet a roll call trailer has been released.

It means viewers will be well aware this one brings together the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kellen Lutz, Ronda Roussey, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In The Expendables 3, Barney (Sylvester Stallone), Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables – but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. Palo Alto Trailer – James Franco stars in a film adapted from his own book

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco is well known as an actor, and in recent years he’s got a growing reputation as a director. However fewer people realise he’s also a published author. Now his 2010 book Palo Alto: Stories is getting a movie adaptation.

Franco’s book is a series tales loosely based on his own childhood, as well as suggestions people sent to him. That episodic narrative remains in the film, with the film tied together by Franco and Emma Roberts as a soccer coach and student embarking of a forbidden relationship.

It’s a bit of a Hollywood in-fest as along with Franco and Emma (nieve of Julia Roberts), it’s the film debut of Jack Kilmer (son of Val Kilmer, who also stars) and of writer/director Gia Coppola (who’s the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola).

The film’s due out in the US in August. [Read more…]

Angelina Jolie Looks Intense In A New Maleficent Banner

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maleficent-banner2So does Maleficent actually have horns, or is it just a headdress? We need to know! Either way she look pretty cool and she’s fairly intense in this new banner that has shown up online, which also plays up the fantasy world the film is set in.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.

‘Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

It’s due in cinemas this May.

Holly Hunter & More Up For Superman Vs. Batman

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

holly-hunter-thumbWith Batman Vs. Superman gearing up to shoot this summer, it’s almost surprising we haven’t heard about more new cast members. However now a new trio has signed on as Deadline reports that Oscar-winner Holly Hunter has signed up, and so have two actors with superhero experience, Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s Callan Mulvey and The Wolverine’s Tao Okamoto.

Unfortunately though there’s no info on who they will be, but to stop people poring through the DC archive for possible characters they might be playing, as Warner has said all three actors will play characters newly created for the film.

Director Zack Snyder comments, “Holly has always been one of my favourite actresses; she has immense talent and is always captivating on screen. I had an opportunity to meet her a while back and knew instantly that I had to work with her, so as we began writing the script I made sure to create a role specifically for her. I just had the good fortune to work with Callan on 300: Rise of an Empire and was very impressed with his incredible talent. He’s a fantastic actor and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him again. And, quite simply, Tao is a striking presence whose beauty is aptly rivaled by her amazing abilities as an actress. I’m really excited to have her joining us on this adventure.”

Henry Cavill will return Superman/Clark Kent, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane also returning. Newcomers include Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

The film is set to hit cinemas May 6th, 2016.

Will Ferrell Will Play Tennis Against Billie Jean King In Match Maker

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Will-FerrellLast year the documentary Battle Of The Sexes looked at the 1970s ‘Battle Of The Sexes’ tennis match, which Bobby Riggs take on Billie Jean King to test his theory that even a retired male tennis pro would be better than the world’s best woman. That doc has certainly ignited interest in taking the story to the big screen.

A couple of months ago it was revealed that Danny Boyle was looking into making a movie about the match, but now it’s got some competition as Variety reports that Will Ferrell has signed up to play Riggs in a rival movie called Match Maker.

This one is a comedy with a script by Steve Conrad (Walter Mitty), based on a 2013 ESPN article, ‘The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, the Mafia and the Battle of the Sexes’.

It follows self-proclaimed chauvinist Riggs, who in the early 70s declared that the female game was inferior and that a top woman player couldn’t beat him even at the age of 55. To prove his point he challenged King to a match, but she declined. Margaret Court, who was then the top female player in the world agreed to take him on. She lost in straight sets, seemingly confirming Riggs’ claims.

King wasn’t going to stand for that and agreed to play Bobby in what became a nationally televised media sensation watched by over 50 million viewers.

Ferrell is a passionate tennis fan, so it wasn’t to tough to convince him to take the role.

Jesse Plemons & Juno Temple Up For Black Mass

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jesse-PlemonsA couple of months ago Jesse Plemons’ name was linked with Star Wars, but now he’s landed a different role, as THR reports that he’s up for Black Mass, starring alongside Johnny Depp and a fellow new addition, Juno Temple.

The film is a biopic of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger (Depp), a Boston criminal who ended up becoming an FBI informant, with the help of his longtime friend and FBI agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) and his brother (Guy Pearce), who was the former President of the Massachussets State Senate. However Whitey didn’t completely turn good guy, as his tips to the feds were mainly about getting rid of his mob competition.

When Connolly tipped Bulger off that the feds were planning on double-crossing him, the criminal went into hiding for more than a decade, rising to the top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list before he was eventually caught in 2011 while hiding out in Santa Monica, California.

Plemons will be Kevin Weeks, “a blue-collar tough guy who is part of Whitey’s inner circle.” Temple meanwhile will be a prostitute.

As Black Mass is due to shoot this summer, it suggests Plemons is out of contention for Star Wars, which isn’t too surprising as he was just one of many young actors JJ Abrams met for role in the movie.

Zac Efron Takes On John Grisham’s The Associate

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zac-efron-paperboy-cannesBack in 2008 Shia LaBeouf was set to star in an adaptation of John Grisham’s The Associate. A lot has happened since then, not least LaBeouf going, well, a bit nuts. While the former Transformers star has moved on, the idea of an Associate film is still alive.

Now THR reports Zac Efron has decided star in a film version, but he’s also stepping up into the producers circle for the movie.

So what’s the story about? Well the description of the book on Amazon says, ‘Kyle McAvoy possesses an outstanding legal mind. Good-looking and affable, he has a glittering future. He also has a dark secret that could destroy his dreams, his career, even his life. One night that secret catches up with him. The men who accost Kyle have a compromising video they’ll use to ruin him–unless he does exactly what they say. What they offer Kyle is something any ambitious young lawyer would kill for: a job in Manhattan as an associate at the world’s largest law firm. If Kyle accepts, he’ll be on the fast track to partnership and a fortune. But there’s a catch. Kyle won’t be working for the firm but against it in a dispute between two powerful defense contractors worth billions. Now Kyle is caught between the criminal forces manipulating him, the FBI, and his own law firm–in a malignant conspiracy not even Kyle with all his intellect, cunning, and bravery may be able to escape alive.’

It’s sounds like typical Grisham fodder (and a bit to close to the recent Paranoia), but it worked for the likes of Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Matthew McConaughey and Matt Damon, so there’s no reason it won’t for Efron.

Things are still at an early stage though, as a screenwriter is currently being sought and it doesn’t seem a director is currently attached.
