Fresh One Direction: This Is Us Trailer – The boys can’t help but get shirtless and slightly homoerotic

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) has been following the One Direction Boys around for This Is Us.

As you probably know, One Direction – Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – were discovered by Simon Cowell on the The X Factor in 2010. The band quickly gained a following to become one of the competition’s all-time most popular acts, finishing in the final three and garnering a gigantic and loyal fanbase along the way. In March 2012, One Direction’s debut album, Up All Night, made US history, as it was the first time a UK group’s debut album entered the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. The band has now sold over 29 million records worldwide.

There’s a lot of love out there for the boys, which Sony Pictures is hoping will follow-them into cinemas for this mix of concert footage and behind-the-scenes look at the lads’ lives. It’ll hit UK cinemas on August 29th. [Read more…]

New Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters Trailer – Logan Lerman & the demi-gods return

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson are back, and this time Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood.

Now a new trailer has been released for the movie, which actually looks pretty fun, if a little nutty.

The movie is out August 16th, when it will hope to beat the rather lacklustre box office of its predecessor.

New Poster For Joseph Gordon Levitt’s Don Jon Released

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

don-john-poster
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s first film as writer and director, Don Jon, is due out towards the end of the year, but to help keep it in people’s minds, a new poster has been released, featuring JGL looking very clean-cut as the title character.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl.

‘Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.’

Jeff Goldblum & Bill Pullman Back For Independence Day Sequel

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-goldblumA couple of days ago, Roland Emmerich said that Will Smith wouldn’t be back for the planned sequel to Independence Day as he was simply too expensive, but he did promise many of the original cast members would return.

Now Movies.com has been pressing Emmerich for news on who will be back, with the director telling them that both Jeff Goldblum, who played the genius David Levinson, and Bill Pullman, who was President Thomas Whitmore, will return. It’s not a surprise that Pullman is back, as he’s suggested as much himself, but many were wondering about Goldblum.

There’s still not much info on the plot of the film, believed to be called ID Forever, or how Goldblum and Pullman fit into it, although Emmerich has previously said its set 20 years after the first film and explores the repercussion of the alien attack.

There’s also no info on any of the other original cast, such as Judd Hirsch and Mary McDonell will return as well. Fox recently set a July 3rd, 2015 release date for the movie.

Knight Rider Movie Gets A Screenwriter

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

knight-rider-1980sOver the years there’s been a lot of talk of bringing the classic 1980s TV series Knight Rider to the big screen, but it’s never happened. Instead they attempted a television reboot in 2008, with Justin Bruening as the estranged son of David Hasselhoff’s character from the original and Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT, the super-advanced talking car. However that didn’t last very long.

Now The Weinstein Company, which owns the movie rights to Knight Rider, is having another go at a movie version, according to The LA Times. They’ve hired Brad Copeland to come up with the script. Copeland has both film and TV experience as a writer and producer on the likes of Arrested Development and the recent US version of The Inbetweeners, as well as coming up for the script for Wild Hogs.

There’s no news on the exact direction Copeland will be taking for the movie, although it’ll apparently be ‘a somewhat higher-budget, more action-oriented’ film. In the original series, David Hasselhoff starred as Michael Long, a police officer who was shot and left for dead while working on a case. Discovered by a mysterious millionaire named Wilton Knight, Long is nursed back to health and reborn as Michael Knight. The benefactor gives Michael with all sorts of tech to fight crime, the most valuable piece being the Knight Industries Two Thousand, a.k.a. KITT, a talking car.

Whether this new attempt to make a Knight Rider movie will actually come to fruition remains to be seen.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Up To Join Tom Hardy In Child 44

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Philip-Seymour-HoffmanPhilip Seymour Hoffman recently had to go to rehab to deal with a drug problem, but it thankfully looks like he’s getting things back on track, as he’s signed to star in Child 44, according to Deadline.

Based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel, with Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa directing, the Soviet Union set thriller is about a military police officer named Leo Demidov (Hardy) who has to inverstigate a string of brutal child murders that took place during the Stalin era. As he begins to dig further and further into the case, he realises that his government is keeping a sharp eye on every move he makes, and refuses to admit that the killings are actually happening.

There’s no news on exactly who Hoffman will be playing, but he joins a cast that also includes Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine, and Fares Fares. Filming recently began in Prague, with a 2014 release being eyed.

James Badge Dale Going For A Stretch In Joe Carnahan’s Film

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James-Badge-DaleJames Badge Dale’s star has slowly been rising thanks to the likes of Shame and The Grey, and this year’s he’s got the impressive trio of Iron Man 3, World War Z and The Lone Ranger. Now he’s signed up for Joe Carnahan’s new movie, Stretch, according to Variety.

The film is about a downtrodden man (Patrick Wilson) who becomes the limo driver for an eccentric billionaire (Chris Pine). What he doesn’t know is that his boss is about to make his life a living hell. As the limo drives around, what the driver doesn’t know is that the billionaire is trying to sell a list of his criminal associates to the highest bidder, which means there are some very dangerous people looking for the car. Ed Helms is also onboard to play the man’s limo driver colleague.

Unfortunately there’s no news on exactly who James Badge Dale will play. Shooting on the movie is set to begin on June 30th in LA.

Upstairs Inferno Trailer – New doc looks at the biggest mass killing of gay people in US history (and seeks funding to do so)

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of the tragic events at the Upstairs Lounge in New Orleans, which was firebombed on June 24th 1973 and resulted in the death of 32 people. It’s the largest gay mass murder in US history, but despite that, few people know about the tragedy. That’s partly because it went under-reported at the time, and subsequently swept under the carpet.

Thirty-two people were killed and some bodies were never identified because their families were ashamed that the victims were gay. No one was ever charged with the crime. While the Stonewall Riots in New York City only four years earlier united a community, the fire caused many in the New Orleans gay community to stay in the closet.

Camina Entertainment, Inc. has now announced that production has begun on a documentary about the fire, Upstairs Inferno, directed by Robert L. Camina.

The director comments, “It is crucial to acknowledge, preserve and honor our history as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people. The LGBT dialogue has changed so much in the past few years.  As popular attitudes shift on LGBT issues, we risk losing the stories of the struggles that got us where we are today. It’s our responsibility to honor the memories of those who came before us, including those who died at the Upstairs Lounge. The men and women who experienced this tragedy paved the way for the freedoms enjoyed by the New Orleans LGBT community of today, as well as the overall LGBT movement. Upstairs Inferno intends to honor their forgotten stories.”

An IndieGoGo fundraising campaign was launched last week to help cover production costs for preserving the Upstairs Inferno tragedy on film. People can donate to the film by following the link on www.upstairsinferno.com or directly at http://igg.me/at/UpstairsInferno/x/83651.

Camina’s full length documentary aims to tell the story primarily through emotional interviews with survivors, families of victims and key players involved with the aftermath. Upstairs Inferno will also feature interviews with historians, experts and current leaders of the New Orleans LGBT community.

Camina’s previous documentary, Raid of the Rainbow Lounge, recounted the widely publicised and controversial June 28th, 2009 police raid of a Fort Worth, Texas gay bar that resulted in multiple arrests and serious injuries. Over the past 15 months, the documentary has screened over 35 times, including 29 mainstream and LGBT film festivals across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The film has won several awards including 3 Best Film and 3 Audience Choice Awards.

If you want to find out more or help fund Upstairs Inferno, head over to Indiegogo. [Read more…]
