Tracey Ullman Joins Johnny Depp & Meryl Streep In Into The Woods

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tracey-UllmanWith the plot of Into The Woods seeing the main characters meeting various fairytale characters, there’s plenty of room for director Rob Marshall to line up star turns. The likes of Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Emily Blunt have already signed on, and now THR reports that Britain’s own Tracey Ullman has joined the throng.

Into The Woods follows a baker and his wife (Blunt) who try to break a curse placed upon them, which prevents them from having children, by confronting the witch (Streep) who caused their trouble in the first place. Along the way, they encounter fairy tale characters such as Rapunzel, Cinderella (Pine and Gyllenhaal will be the princes from those tales), Little Red Riding Hood (Depp is up to be the wolf), and many more.

Ullman will play the mother of Jack The Giant Killer, although her son is yet to be cast.

The movie is based on Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical, with shooting due to kick off later this year.

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Variety reports that she’ll helm the indie Hello I Must Be Going, which has Seann William Scott, Kate Walsh, Kyle Gallner and Rob Riggle set to star.

Not much has been revealed about the plot, although Scott will play a man contemplating suicide, but before that he decides to revisits his hometown to settle some scores.

David Flebotte wrote the screenplay, having first worked with Cox on her TV series, Dirt. Shooting will begin in LA later this month.

Eddie Redmayne Finds The Theory Of Everything As Stephen Hawking

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

eddie-redmayneEddie Redmayne’s star is certainly on the rise thanks to the likes of Les Miserables. Now he’s signed up for a slightly Oscar-bait role, as Deadline reports he’ll play a young Stephen Hawking in the movie Theory of Everything.

Working Title is backing the movie, with Man On Wire’s James Marsh set to direct. The only info on the exact plot of the movie is that it will ‘focus on the relationship between Hawking and his wife’. However it doesn’t say which wife, as he’s had two. We’re presuming that it’s his first, Jane Wilde, who he met shortly before he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease while studying at Cambridge at the age of 21, and who stayed with him even when he was told he might not live more than two years longer.

Redmayne is also being sought to star with Carey Mulligan and Matthias Schoenaerts in Far From The Madding Crowd, which the Thomas Vinterberg is set to direct. However he may end up passing on that project so he can concentrate on the Hawking movie.

Tom Hanks Reteaming With Tom Twyker For A Hologram For The King

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hanksHaving worked with Tom Twyker on Cloud Atlas, Tom Hanks is teaming up with the director for an adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel, A Hologram For The King, according to Deadline.

The book is about a down-on-his-luck businessman who decides to leave America and try to find better fortune in Saudi Arabia, hoping to ‘stave off foreclosure, pay his daughter’s college tuition, and do something memorable.’

At the moment the project doesn’t have a studio or financing attached, but with Hanks attached, it should be able to drum up some interest. Hanks will next be seen in the Somalian pirate drama Captain Phillips, before playing Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks.

Sandra Bullock Circling Annie Remake As Miss Hannigan

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sandra-BullockSandra Bullock was offered a role in the planned remake of Annie back in March, but she turned it down. Now she’s had a change of heart and THR reports that is in talks to join the musical, alongside Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx.

She would play Miss Hannigan, the unpleasant, scheming woman who runs the orphanage that Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) lives in before being taken in by Daddy Warbucks (Jamie Foxx). Carol Burnett played Miss Hannigan in the 1982 films version of Annie.

Will Gluck is set to direct the movie from a screenplay that he is currently rewriting. Emma Thompson wrote the original draft, which was rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Teaser Trailer – Including our first good look at the dragon

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is much what you’d expect. Indeed it was always in danger of seeming exactly like all the promos for the first film, so it makes sure it adds in a few new things, mostly our first looks at Orlando Bloom returning to the role of Legolas, as well as Evangeline Lilly as the elf Tauriel and a decent glimpse of the evil, treasure-loving dragon, Smaug (who’ll be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit”, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

It hits cinemas on December 13th.

Magic Magic Trailer – Michael Cera & Juno Temple team for a psychological thriller

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was a fair amount of interest in Magic Magic at Sundance, which gives Michael Cera a rather more intense and dark role than we’ve come to expect from him, as he sets about driving Juno Temple nuts.

Now a new trailer has been released, so we can all get a taste for the movie.

Sebastian Silva writes and directs the film which concerns a young American traveler named Alicia (Juno Temple) who, while in the spectacular Chilean lake district, begins seeing disturbing images visible only to her. Her best friend Sarah (Emily Browning) suddenly returns to Santiago, leaving Alicia in an unfamiliar country surrounded by strangers (Michael Cera and Catalina Sandino Moreno). She begins to unravel, seeing darker visions and hearing chilling noises that send her running into the woods.

It going straight-to-DVD in the US on August 6th, and should reach the UK later this year.

Downton’s Dan Stevens Is Going Dark For The Guest

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dan-StevensDan Stevens had huge success with Downton Abbey, and now he’s trying to segue from that to film stardom. He’s got Summer In February hitting UK cinemas this Friday, and we should be able to see him in the Wikileaks flick The Fifth Estate and the Liam Neeson starrer A Walk Among The Tombstones in the next few months.

Now he’s booked a new role, with Variety reporting that he’s set to star in Adam Wingard’s indie movie, The Guest. It’s apparently a much darker role than we’ve previously seen from Stevens. The film ‘follows a family who befriends a man who has just returned from a tour of duty unaware he is not the man he is letting on to be’.

Simon Barrett came up with the script. Adam Wingard has gained quite a few fans in horror circles thanks to the likes of A Horrible Way To Die and You’re Next, so this is likely to be pretty intense too. Shooting should start later this summer.

Sullivan Stapleton Gets His Shirt Off In A New 300: Rise Of An Empire Poster

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

300-rise-of-an-empire-poster2
The first trailer for 300: Rise Of An Empire is set to arrive in the next 24 hours, and to herald that, a new poster has been released, which shows Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) looking a bit fed up with battle, and about to be crushed by a blood-red wave.

In the film, which runs pretty much parallel to the first 300 movie, Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece in battle against the evil Persian ruler Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).

Noam Murro is directing, with Zack Snyder directing. While Rise Of An Empire had been due to hits cinemas this August, it’s now been pushed back to March 7th, 2014 (the same time of year the first film was released).

Downton’s Sophie McShera Going Evil Stepsister In Cinderella

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sophie-mcsheraKenneth Branagh and Disney have obviously been watching a lot of Downton Abbey, as he’s already cast Lily James in the title role of his live action take on Cinderella, and now they’ve got another star of the series in talks for the film, Sophie McShera.

Just yesterday we reported that Holly Grainger was set to play one of the evil stepsister, and now THR says McShera will play the other one..

Game of Thrones star Richard Madden is playing the prince who Cinderella falls for, with Cate Blanchett as her wicked stepmother. But while the cast is coming together, there’s still no news on whether Disney is planning a revamp of the traditional story to make Cinderella more of a modern female.

Kenneth Branagh is directing from a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz. Shooting is scheduled to begin this autumn in London.
