New The Last Stand Trailer – Arnie gets his guns out once more

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Arnie is back and it looks like while he’s not trying to hide he’s aging, he can still get the bigs guns out and bring the action. After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. Take a look at the new trailer. It hits cinemas January 25th.

Kristen Wiig Gets Bill Hader As Her Gay Brother In Skeleton Twins

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After Bridesmaids, the world was Kristen Wiig’s oyster, but rather than making endless sequels to her hit and signing up for every big payday she could find, she’s been very careful about which projects she’s attached herself to. Now she’s decided on a new one, with Variety reporting that she’s signed on for the indie comedy, Skeleton Twins.

She joins Bill Hader and Owen Wilson in the movie, which is about an estranged set of twins. Maggie (Wiig) and Milo (Hader) went their separate ways years ago, but when they coincidentally cheat death on the same day, the shock makes them reunite and figure out how their lives went wrong. Maggie starts to re-examine her marriage to “nature frat boy” Lance (Wilson), while the gay Milo goes to visit old flame Rich, an ex-teacher with a past he’d rather keep quiet. The begin to realise the the only way to fix their lives may lie in fixing their relationship with each other.

Hader and Wiig of course worked together for several year on Saturday Night Live, and have also appeared together in the likes of Adventureland and Paul.

Phillip Noyce In Talks To Take On The Giver, With Jeff Bridges Still Set To Star

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jeff Bridges has had a long relationship with the young adult novel The Giver. In the late 90s, he started trying to adapt Lois Lowry’s book for the big screen, but despite several years of effort, he had to admit defeat in 2007 when the rights were sold to Warner. However last year they became free again and so Bridges and producing partner Nikki Silver stepped in once more, and set Vadim Perelmen to handle the script.

Now the project is moving forward once more, with Phillip Noyce (Salt) is talks to helm the film. Variety says the negotiations “as there are a lot of moving parts to this,” most of which surround his other commitments, as he’s also attached to My Wild Life, the thriller The Arrangement, and the sci-fi romance Timeless.

The Giver is set in a utopian society where all memory of human history have been erased. A young boy is assigned to be The Giver of his community, a task which requires him to bear all of his community’s past experiences and emotions, in case a time comes when they will be of use. The 12-year-old boy is taken under the wing of the town’s current, elderly Giver, but he begins to question this new lifestyle.

Showing just how time can change a project, Bridges has previously said, “I originally thought of the role of The Giver as a vehicle for my father, the late Lloyd Bridges, however… I feel the time is right for me to do it.” There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Tim Robbins To Direct Man Under, With Michelle Pfeiffer & Chloe Moretz Set To Star

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tim Robbins hasn’t directed a movie since Cradle Will Rock in 1999, but he’s now planning to step back behind the camera, and plans are advanced enough that he’s started building the cast. Robbins is set to both helm and star in the family drama Man Under, with Michelle Pfeiffer and Chloe Moretz also onboard.

Variety reports that the movie follows a family from Yonkers that see their lives “changed forever when a photo of them ends up in the Museum of Modern Art.” The script was written by Ann Cherkis, whose only previously produced credit is the 2007 film The Secret, which starred David Duchovny and Lili Taylor.

Back in August it was reported that Robbins had also signed up to direct City Of Lies, but apparently the script for that still needs work and so he’s hoping to slot in Man Under first.

Top Gun 2 Definitely Cancelled, But Top Gun 3D Is Still Coming

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hollywood was shocked in August when Tony Scott wook his own life. At the time of his death, it was reported that he had been busy in the days beforehand scouting locations for the planned Top Gun 2. The suicide left that project in limbo, but now the New York Times confirms what many had assumed, which is that Scott’s death has halted plans for Top Gun 2.

However Paramount has also converted the first film to 3D, with the initial plan having been to release that to help increase excitement for a second film. Now executives are uncertain about exactly what to do, as the conversion is completed, but the studio doesn’t want a Top Gun 3D release to seem insensitive or exploitative, but they do want to get it out there. They are reportedly considering a February 2013 release for Top Gun 3D, with an exclusive one-week IMAX window before opening in standard 3D theaters.

The studio, IMAX and Legend3D, the company behind the conversion, refused to comment or confirm the release plan.

Michael Bay Hints Transformers 4 May Cast Mark Wahlberg After All

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While most directors ignore what’s said about them and their projects online, Michael Bay is one of the few who not only keeps an eye on things, but is prone respond (and sometimes have a rant) about what people have said.

Earlier this month the web rumour mill decided that Bay was close to signing Mark Wahlberg for Transformers 4. It seems that at the time there was not truth in it, and Bay quickly debunked the story, the rumour apparently intrigued him.

It appears the idea got his brain working, and it now seems Wahlberg may have a role in Transformers 4 after all. Here’s what the director said about it on his official website: “I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Wahlberg. Mark was rumored to be staring in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance – well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.”

That doesn’t mean he Wahlberg will definitely be in the film, but it appears there’s now a good chance. The new film will feature an entirely new cast, although it won’t be a full reboot. It isn’t known when production will begin, but a release date June 29th, 2014 is already set.

Jurassic Park 3D Poster Debuts

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the few movies I’ve always thought it would actually be worth giving a 3D coversion to is Jurassic Park, and Universal Pictures obviously feels the same way, as they’re busy adding an extra dimension to the movie, ahead of a 20th Anniversary 3D release next year.

Now they’ve unleashed the first poster for the conversion, which takes a classic image and makes it look a little more modern. We’ve also been promised that the trailer for the re-release should be coming very soon, but while we wait for that we have the poster.

The dinosaurs will be getting their 3D outing in cinemas starting April 5th, 2013. While convertind many films seems pointless, Jurassic Park could be one of the few that’s made even more exciting by the process. We’ll have to wait and see whether it works, it’s certainly going to be worth a look.

Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill And More Eyed For David Yates’ Tarzan

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David Yates was a ridiculously busy man making four Harry Potter movies over the space of four years, but since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 he’s taken his time to plot his follow-up. While there have been various things in the works he’s bided his time. Now it appears his next film will be a new take on Tarzan, as Vulture reports that Yates has signed on the dotted line to direct Tarzan for Warner Bros.

Things are already moving forward as the director is also meeting with actors such as Henry Cavill, Charlie Hunnam, and Alexander Skarsgård for the title role. There’s no news on who might be the frontunner though. Warner Bros. is also apparent interested in bringing on Tom Hardy to star in the title role, after his performances in the studio’s blockbusters such as Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.

This is the same version of Tarzan that Footloose director Craig Brewer signed on to helm in June 2011, but he has since dropped out. The character was created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912, and has been the basis of numerous movie and TV adaptation. Constantin Film also has its own mo-cap Tarzan project starring Kellan Lutz.

Dwayne Johnson & Brett Ratner Confirmed for Hercules

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last February, it was revealed that Dwayne Johnson and director Brett Ratner were in talks to make a film based on Hercules. Now, we have confirmation that the actor and filmmaker have officially signed on, with MGM co-producing the movie alongside Paramount, according to Variety.

The project is based on Steve Moore’s Radical Publishing ‘revisionist’ graphic novel, Hercules: The Thracian Wars. As you’d expect, it’s all about the title character (Dwayne Johnson), who fights other people’s battles for money, along with his group of mercenaries. He finds a higher calling when he defends the mythical Mount Olympus from an evil army.

Ryan Condal (Paradise Lost) wrote the original screenplay adaptation, with Evan Spiliotopoulos providing the most recent revisions. Shooting is scheduled to begin early next year.

LA Voters Decide To Put Condoms On Porn Stars

November 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The US has been in a frenzy of democracy in the last couple of days, re-electing Barack Obama, voting for gay marriage in Maine, Maryland and Washington, and deciding not to constitutionally ban it in Minnesota. However a much smaller vote was taking place in LA county, which was concerned with putting condoms onto porn performers.

The measure, which went by the catchy name “County of Los Angeles Safer Sex In The Adult Film Industry Act”, aka Measure B, sought to require adult film actors to wear condoms during shoots. It will also force porn producers to purchase a public health permit like tattoo, which they’ll only get if they follow health and safety guidelines, including rigorous testing for STDs and various other things.

The residents of LA seem to think this is a good idea, as they’ve approved the measure with 55.9% voting for it. The Los Angeles City Council has actually approved the measure back in January, but it had been on hold awaiting the outcome of this popular vote.

The porn industry had lobbied against the measure, saying that while it is a huge industry in LA (it’s worth around $20 million to the city), the measure will either force them underground or out of LA. They say consumers don’t want porn where condoms are used, so producers will have to go somewhere they don’t have to use them, and that the industry already has strict health rules in place, with performers being tested for STDs on average once a week.

Opponents have said this isn’t enough, citing recent HIV and syphilis scares and a report saying that LA County adult film stars have significantly higher rates of gonorrhoea and chlamydia than legal prostitutes in Nevada.

Despite the threat of leaving the city, after the result was announced the porn industry has decided to take stock and possibly launch legal action, in the hope they can get the law overturned.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein said this was a major referendum on the subject of safer sex, ‘We have shown our resolve that we are not going to give up on this issue. Now that the people have spoken so overwhelmingly, it is the responsibility for the Board of Supervisors and the county Health Department to act immediately to enforce this law.’

To be honest, you’d hope porn producers would be responsible and put condoms on their stars anyway, both to protect the actors and to show safer sex to viewers – and if they really want to stop the rot in their industry, perhaps they could employ more actors who look like real people rather than bizarre pneumatic dolls (both male and female).
