White House Down First Look – Channing Tatum does his first take happy dance

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The US TV programme Entertainment Tonight may look like it’s made for people with severe ADHD, but it does get some good scoops, including a first look on the set of White House Down, the new thriller starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. The movie is currently shooting, but ET was on the set to catch up with the stars and take a look at the action-packed flick. The movie stars Tatum as a man who was rejected from the Secret Service, but gets to protect the President (Foxx) anyway, when terrorist take over the White House. It hits cinemas next summer.

New Extra-Long The Master Trailer Debuts

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Here’s an interesting one. The Master has already been out in the States for a couple of weeks, but to thank fans for its success, director Paul Thomas Anderson has decided to release a new, extra-long trailer for the movie. You might wonder why fans would want thanks with a trailer, but the intriguing thing is that like earlier promos, it features a lot of footage that didn’t make the final film, or which shows things from a different angle. Many people have spoken about the film’s enigmatic nature, and this certainly seems to add to that. We in the UK will get to see whether The Master is all it’s cracked up to be hwne it opens on November 2nd.

Streep And Swank Take On Tommy Lee Jones’ The Homesman

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tommy Lee Jones showed he was a pretty good director with 2005’s The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, but since then he’s only helmed the TV movie The Sunset Limited. However, a few months ago he revealed plans to direct his passion project, The Homesman, and it appears he’s getting some heavyweight female talent to star, as TheWrap reports Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank are both attached to the movie.

The period drama is about on a claim-jumper (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman (Swank) in the 19th Century, who both escort three insane women on a bizarre journey from Nebraska to Iowa, where they must brave the harsh elements along the way. It’s not 100% clear who Streep will play, but she could well be one of the mad ladies.

There’s no news on when the movie might shoot, but that may become clearer after the upcoming American Film Market, where the film will be looking for buyers.

Ben Kingsley May Play Herod In Mary Mother Of Christ

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke helmed a look at Jesus’ birth in The Nativity Story back in 2006, but it didn’t find too much success, and so now the film world is having another go, and they may get Ben Kingley to help them.

The movie is called Mary Mother of Christ, which Australian filmmaker Alister Grierson is being putting together. He has already cast Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green) as Mary, Peter O’Toole as Symeon, and Julia Ormond as Mary’s cousin, Elizabeth. If Ben Kingsley signs up, he’d play the impressively villainous King Herod, famed for trying to kill all the firstborn Israelite children in the hope of getting rid of Jesus. The producers are also interested in casting Dame Judi Dench as Anna the Prophetess and Hugh Bonneville as Satan, although it isn’t known whether those actors are interested.

It looks like it’ll be a fairly reverent take on the story as Joel Osteen, a televangelist from Texas, is serving as an executive producer on the project. It isn’t clear when it might go into production. (Source: The Wrap)

New Poster For Dreamworks’ Caveman Tale The Croods Debuts

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although a lot of what Dreamworks Animation produces doesn’t seem all that interesting (mainly being designed to hoover up cash from kids), The Croods looks like it could be a lot of fun. Now a new poster from the film has debuted. Nicolas Cage stars as Grug, the patriarch of a prehistoric family who are forced to leave their home behind after a devastating earthquake. As they journey to find a new place to live, they encounter an intriguing nomad (Ryan Reynolds), who Grug’s daughter (Emma Stone) falls for. Kirk De Micco (Space Chimps) and Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon) direct, with the film currently due to hit UK cinemas March 22nd, 2013.

Mark Millar To Consult On Fox’s Marvel Properties

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Are Fox planning to mix up their Marvel movies into a bigger universe, in the same way Marvel itself has? The company itself hasn’t said anything about this, but it appears they’re at least looking to have a unified vision across their superhero movies, as Deadline reports that Twentieth Century Fox has brought on comics superstar Mark Millar to serve as a creative consultant on the studio’s upcoming projects based on Marvel Comics properties.

Millar wrote several celebrated Marvel books such as The Ultimates, Civil War and Wolverine: Old Man Logan, before moving on to found Millarworld (MillarWorld.tv), where he continues to develop existing film franchise titles Wanted and Kick-Ass, as well as newer comic properties The Secret Service, Superior, and Nemesis – the latter of which is also in development at Fox. Millar will work with Fox on developing new avenues for its X-Men and Fantastic Four tentpoles.

Already incoming for the studio is The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman and directed by James Mangold, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be helmed by Matthew Vaughn, and a reboot of Fantastic Four, to be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle). However with Millar onbaord, it looks like for the future they’re hoping to create something more unified, and possibly interlinked.

“As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it’s a unique combination of both,” stated Millar. “I spent ten years working at Marvel and am really happy with the work I did on the comic side of things so the idea of working with these characters now in a brand new medium is enormously exciting for me. I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema’s biggest talents. James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn’s one of my closest pals [Vaughn of vource directed Kick-Ass, based on Millar’s comic] and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with Chronicle. The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I’ve ever had.”

New Paranormal Activity 4 Trailer – What happened to Katie & Hunter?

September 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After Paranormal Activity 2 & 3 took us further and further into the past, we’re finally moving forward to discover what happened to Katie and Hunter after they disappeared. A new trailer gives us our best look at the plot yet, with Hunter now several years older but apparently still surrounded by a lot of creepy crap. Luckily he’s moved in near some teens who seem just as obsessed with filming every moment of their life as his own folks were. Plus things get a little more techy with the use of an Xbox Kinect. The film hits UK cinemas on October 17th.

Identity Thief Trailer – Melissa McCarthy steals Jason Bateman’s life!

September 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason Bateman teaming up with Melissa McCarthy seemed like a great idea from the moment Identity Thief was announced. Now the trailer for the movie has arrived, which suggests McCarthy is really going to be let loose to go totally mental. She plays Diana who has unlimited funds to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads ‘Sandy Bigelow Patterson’ and it belongs to an accounts rep (Jason Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S. With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back. The film hits UK cinemas March 1st, 2013.

Stoker Trailer – Park Chan-Wook’s English-language debut gets a promo

September 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a lot of interest in Stoker, largely because it marks the English-language debut of South Korean Oldboy helmer, Park Chan-Wook (and also because it’s written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller). Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived. The film is about India (Mia Wasikowska’s), whose father dies in an auto accident. Shortly afterwards her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Nicolne Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him. It’s currently set for release in the UK on March 1st, 2013.
