First Look At Tom Hanks & Halle Berry In Cloud Atlas

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At was revealed last week that the Wachowskis’ and Tom Twyker’s Cloud Atlas will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, now the first images of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent in the movie have appeared via EW.

The story spans hundreds of years, showing how individual lives affect others in the past, present, and future through a series of stories. The actors play different people in each story, jumping between different races and genders.

Here’s what co-director Lana Wachowski had to say about this time-bending adaptation, “We thought about these individual characters as aspects of larger characters. Their lives are interwoven over one big story that takes place over a thousand years.”

You can see a few more pics over at EW.

Alex Pettyfer Joins Kristen Stewart in Cali

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Following his success getting his kit off in Magic Mike, young British star Alex Pettyfer is now in final negotiations to appear in Cali alongside Kristen Stewart, which Nick Cassavetes is set to direct.

The movie is about a San Fernando Valley couple, Chris and Mya (Pettyfer and Stewart), who decide to fake Mya’s death by making a snuff film, before skipping town with loads of cash. Years later, Mya must return home to save her younger sister.

Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook, Alpha Dog) is directing from a screenplay by Michael Diliberti (30 Minutes or Less, Stop Loss). Kristen Stewart is also making her producing debut on the project. Production is scheduled to begin later this summer, by which time hopefully Stewart will be able to concentrate on the film rather than apologising for cheating on Robert Pattinson. Paul Giamatti & Jason Schwartzman Join Saving Mr. Banks

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, and Ruth Wilson have joined Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks for director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), bolstering a cast that already includes Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks.

The movie is about Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), who was courted for 14 years by Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) for the screen rights to her beloved novel, before she reluctantly agreed. After she didn’t approve of the 1964 classic’s animated sequences, she refused to sell another book to the studio.

Paul Giamatti is playing Ralph, P.L. Travers’ chauffeur when she spends time in Los Angeles. Jason Schwartzman will be Richard Sherman, the songwriter who wrote a number of tunes for Disney classics such as Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Ruth Wilson is the author’s mother in flashback scenes, along with Colin Farrell as P.L. Travers’ father, who inspired the Poppins character of Mr, Banks. (Source: Variety)

Vince Vaughn Finds The Risk Agent

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vince Vaughn has snapped up the rights to Ridley Pearson’s new novel The Risk Agent for an adaptation which he plans to star in and produce. Michael Lerner has been hired to adapt the screenplay, according to Deadline.

The story is set in Shanghai, China and sees a Chinese National, working for an American construction company, get kidnapped in broad daylight. The plot follows Grace Chu, a forensic accountant, and John Knox, a combat operative, hired by Rutherford Risk to recover the hostage. It isn’t known what role Vince Vaughn will play at this time, but presumably he’ll play Knox.

The novel was published last month in the US, and will be the first in a series of books, so this could potentially be a franchise.

Adam Sandler To Produce Bad Toys II

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adam Sandler has signed on to develop and produce a feature-length adaptation of Bad Toys II, a popular short film that uses a combination of live-action and CGI animation. You can take a look at the six-minute short below, which is a little bit Robot Chicken and a little bit Adam & Joe Show.

French animators Daniel Brunet and Nicolas Douste directed the short as an homage to Michael Bay’s Bad Boys II. The story starts out with a car chase using toys on a living room floor that keeps escalating with explosions and car crashes. This big-screen version for Columbia Pictures will centree on a grown man whose childhood imagination comes to life again while playing with his son’s toys. The man’s play becomes an homage to big-budget action spectacles.

Daniel Brunet and Nicolas Douste will executive produce this new adaptation. No screenwriter or director has been hired yet. (Source: THR)

Life Of Pi Trailer – Take a look at Ang Lee’s gorgeous new film

July 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you’ve been to see a 3D movie in the past few weeks, you may have caught some great flying fish footage from Ang Lee’s upcoming Life Of Pi. While that’s not online yet, the first proper trailer has arrived, suggesting that while this is going to be an unusual film, it’s going to look utterly amazing. The film is based on Yan Martel’s Booker Prize winning book about Pi Patel (played by newcomer Suraj Sharma) who, after a shipwreck, shares a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, a hyena, an injured zebra, and an orangutan (although we’ve only seen a tiger in the footage seen so far). The potential Oscar-bait movie is currently due out December 21st.

Did Marilyn Monroe Swing Both Ways? A New Bio Says Yes

July 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you want your biography to stand out from the pack, one of the popular things to do is say that the subject was gay, whether there’s much evidence for that or not. The latest to get a posthumous bisexual title is Marilyn Monroe, in Lois W. Banner’s new book, Marilyn: The Passion and the Paradox.

An extract published by The Guardian says, “She had affairs with many eminent men – baseball great Joe DiMaggio, playwright Arthur Miller, director Elia Kazan, actor Marlon Brando, singer Frank Sinatra, the Kennedy brothers – and she married DiMaggio and Miller. Yet she desired women, had affairs with them, and worried that she might be lesbian by nature. How could she be the world’s heterosexual sex goddess and desire women?”

Banner postulates Monroe as a proto-feminist, far smarter than she’s sometimes given credit for, although tormented by her demons – which the extract suggests included what we’d now call sex addiction. It’s not the first time Monroe’s sexuality has been questioned, although there’s not really all that much credible evidence she was genuinely bisexual. It’s a good way to sell books though.

Bridegroom Documentary Becomes Highest Funded Kickstarter Film Project Ever

July 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago we reported that the documentary Bridegroom was seeking funding on Kickstarter. Well, now only has it already broken through it $300,000 funding target, but it become the highest funded film in the history of Kickstarter. While more than 7,000 films have sought funding through Kickstarter, no other project has reached the $384,375 pledged to Bridegroom.

It’s perhaps unsurprising it found so many backers, as the project stems from a tragic video posted online a few month’s ago, which went viral and touched millions of people around the world.

The video, It Could Happen To You charted Shane Bitney Crone’s experience after the death of his boyfriend, Tim. The dead man’s family had never accepted Tim’s sexuality and froze Shane out, taking him body back to Tim’s home state for burial and supposedly threatened him with violence if he attended the funeral. The Youtube video was viewed 2.7 million times.

The ambitious plan is to have the feature-length documentary ready to premiere in October. Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is set to direct.

Kellan Lutz To Play One Of The Few Straights In A Gay World

July 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Poor straight people. They’re always being oppressed by the gay masses. Or at least they will be in Love Is All You Need, a new movie that THR reports has just signed Twilight hottie Kellan Lutz and Open Road’s Camilla Belle to star.

The movie follows several storylines set in a world where being gay is considered the norm. The rather slight Belle will play a star American football quarterback who is adored by a large fan base while Lutz will be an aspiring journalist. The two of them fall in love, keeping their relationship secret due to public dislike of straight couple, but when the romance becomes public, the two find themselves being bullied. It hasn’t been revealed what other storylines the film might explore.

The film is based on a short by Kim Rocco Shields (you can watch a trailer for that short below), who will direct the movie, and co-wrote the feature script with David Tillman.
