Bill Hader & Kate Hudson Take On Me & My Shadow

February 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dreamworks Animation has set the cast for its upcoming movie, Me & My Shadow, with THR reporting that Kate Hudson, Josh Gad, and Bill Hader will be voicing characters in the movie, which has been in the works since December 2010.

The movie centres on Stan (Bill Hader), a shadow who wishes for a more adventurous life than being attached to the dull Stanley Grubbs (Josh Gad). Stan gets his wish when a dangerous crime in the shadow community forces Stan to take control of Stanley. Kate Hudson will voice Stanley’s possible love interest.

Alessandro Carloni is set to make his feature directorial debut with Me and My Shadow, after serving as the head of story on How to Train Your Dragon. Carloni took over from Mark Dindal who was going to direct when they project was first announced. Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember are writing the screenplay, based on the original draft by Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman.

Shia Labeouf Really Wants A Necessary Death

February 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of years ago, Shia Labeouf picked up a script with the verbose but intriguing title The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. However as often happens in Hollywood, the project fell by the wayside over scheduling and money.

However it would appear Labeouf really likes the screenplay, as while he’d put it to one side, Variety reports the movie has gone back into pre-production. Fredrik Bond will direct, who like the previously attached helmer, Dante Ariola, is best known for his work in commercials.

The script, by Matt Drake, made the 2007 Black List of the best unproduced screenplays. Here’s the synopsis that was released a couple of years ago: ‘Charlie Countryman (LaBeouf) was just a normal guy… until he fell in love with the one girl who will probably get him killed. When Charlie meets the absolutely irresistible Gabi she’s already been claimed by Nigel, an insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal. Armed with little more than his wit and naïve charm, Charlie endures one bruising beat down after another to woo Gabi and keep her out of harm’s way. Finally his exploits of blind valor create such a mess that he’s left with only one way out; to save the girl of his dreams, must Charlie Countryman die?’

Sounds like a cheery one, doesn’t it? You have to wonder as well whether the success of Drive has given this one new impetus. The movie will shoot later this year.

Justin Timberlake Having Trouble With The Curve

February 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s getting to the point where you could almost forget Justin Timberlake is a pop star, as he spends so much of his time trying to be a movie star. The likes of The Social Network have helped give him some acting cred, but starring opposite Clint Eastwood should get him a lot more.

Deadline reports that he’s just signed on to Trouble With The Curve, which will see Eastwood coming out of acting retirement (Gran Torino was supposed to be his last trip in front of a camera). The film follows an aging baseball scout (Eastwood) who’s slowly losing his vision, but goes on a road trip with his adult daughter (Amy Adams) to look for new players in Atlanta.

Timberlake is set to play a former pitcher-turned-scout, who competes against Eastwood for a new signing. However, just to throw an extra spanner in the works, he also falls for Adams.

Robert Lorenz, whose produced many of Clint’s films, will make his directing debut with the movie. An autumn release is being eyed for the movie.

Ridley Scott May Make Cormac McCarthy’s The Counsellor Next

February 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple weeks ago it was revealed that Cormac McCarthy, the famed author of No Country For Old Men and The Road, had completed his frist film script. As expected it excited a lot of interest in Hollywood and now Ridley Scott has come running and Deadline reports he may well make it his next movie, after completing Prometheus.

The Counsellor is about a lawyer who foolishly thinks he can dabble in the drugs business without being pulled into the dark criminal world. However, he’s soon in a desperate situation and relying on his wits and legal smarts to survive.

Ridley likes to line up huge amount of potential projects, while only making a few of them. He currenty has options of all sorts of projects, but a script by McCarthy is a bit of a special case, so it’s believed he’s likely to push everything else aside to make it.

Adam Sandler Signs On For Candyland

February 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of years ago Universal and Hasbro made a huge deal to develop all sorts of toy and game properties into movies. It’s been far from easy to do that though, as while Battleship is coming this year, the likes of Ouija, Clue and Monopoly have all been dropped by the studio.

Now another has been cut loose, with Candyland moving from Universal to Sony, and Adam Sandler signing on to help develop it.Sandler is attached to star and will also co-write the script with Robert Smigel. Kevin Lima (Enchanted) will direct.

Candyland isn’t as well known in the UK as it is in the US, but it was created in 1949 and has been played by generations of American families. In the game, players go on a magical journey through fantastical lands made of candy, sweets, and ice cream: the Peppermint Forest, the Gum Drop Mountains, and the Lollypop Woods. Along the way, players encounter such iconic characters as Princess Frostine, Lord Licorice, Mr. Mint, and King Candy. Presumably all those will figures into the movie.

With Sandler involved, it would seem the film is headed in a comic direction, as opposed to ‘Lord Of The Rings with candy’, as the Universal version was described.

There’s no info on when it might shoot.

First Official Skyfall Picture Drops, With 007 Looking Moody

February 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago we had an image of Daniel Craig sitting by a pool, which was billed as the first image from Skyfall, but now the guys behind the movie have released what they say is the first official shot from the movie.

On one level it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Bond shot – 007 holding a gun – but it would appear they’ve picked a shot that’s deliberately dark and moody, suggesting a break in tone from Quantum of Solace (which most people now feel was a bit of a disaster for a franchise that had only just re-established its street cred). The movie hits screens this October.

Fresh Pics From The Hobbit, Argo & Snow White and the Huntsman

January 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the war between the rival Snow White movies, Snow White & the Huntsman is certainly winning on the style front. It looks very cool, which should stand it in good stead when it arrives in cinemas on June 1st. It may be coming after Mirror Mirror, but the smart money is on Huntsman, starring Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, to win at the box office.

Enjoy the new pics from the film above and below and under that are fresh images from Argo and The Hobbit.

Although hardly anyone in the pic above is recognisable, that’s Ben Affleck in the middle, in this pic from Argo, which he both directs and stars in. The movie tells the true-life tale of a daring CIA plan to get hostages out of Iran in the late 70s by pretending they wanted to make a movie. It’ll be out later this year.

And we’ll finish off with Bilbo surrounding by dwarves in The Hobbit. Part one of the two part adaptation hits cinemas this December.

Tom Hiddleston Joins Jim Jarmusch’s Vampire Tale Only Lovers Left Alive

January 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It sounds a bit like an indie film fans wet dream. Ghost Dog and Dead Man helmer Jim Jarmusch teaming up with Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Mia Wasikowska for a tale about vampires. The cast of Only Lovers Left Alive was also due to include Michael Fassbender, but with Hollywood knocking on his door for every role at the moment, he’s moved on and THR reports Thor and War Horse’s Tom Hiddleston is set to replace him.

Jarmusch won’t get around to shooting the movie until later this year, which is described as a horror drama that tells an unusual love story about two vampires who have been in a tumultuous relationship for centuries.

Hiddleston will next be seen in The Avengers, when hopefully he’ll be able to have more fun as Loki, who is perhaps the most interesting character in Marvel’s current film universe.
