Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Trailer – Tom Cruise does go back because it’s a sequel

June 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reacher-never-go-back-slideAfter a few years of rather lacklustre Tom Cruise movies, Jack Reacher was a bit of a breath of fresh air – an action movie/thriller that helped remind us why the actor became such a big star in the first place. It’s not too surprising therefore that he’s returning to the character in Never Go Back, which has just released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back follows the title character as he returns to Virginia to meet the head of his former unit. But she’s missing, he’s being charged with a crime committed nearly 20 years ago, and he may even have a daughter. Making things right will lead him on a cross-country chase to uncover the truth – and maybe even a family.’

Ed Zwick directs the movie. It’ll be in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Suicide Squad Gets Some Crazy New Character Posters

June 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suicide-squad-character-poster8-slideWhile there are a lot of people excited about Suicide Squad, it’s one of the big unknowns of the summer, and it’s likely that after seeing these new character posters, a lot of people still won’t know what to think. What it certainly continues to do is suggest this isn’t going to be a typical comic book movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From director David Ayer (“Fury,” “End of Watch”) comes “Suicide Squad,” starring Oscar nominee Will Smith (“Ali,” “The Pursuit of Happyness”), Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Focus”), Joel Kinnaman (“Run All Night,” “The Killing”) and Oscar nominee Viola Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”).

‘It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

‘Written and directed by Ayer based on the characters from DC Comics, the film also stars Jai Courtney (“Insurgent”), Jay Hernandez (“Takers”), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (“Thor: The Dark World”), Ike Barinholtz (“Neighbors”), Scott Eastwood (“Fury”), Cara Delevingne (“Paper Towns”), Adam Beach (“Cowboys & Aliens”), and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut. It is produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.’

The film will be in cinemas in August. [Read more…]

New Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trailer – Tim Burton takes us into a magical time loop

June 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

miss-peregrine-character-poster1-slideFrom the look of this trailer, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children may see Tim Burton back in proper Tim Burton-y form, bringing a touch of gothic to a strange tale. It certainly looks like it might be pretty entertaining.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel, comes an unforgettable motion picture experience. When his beloved grandfather leaves Jake clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times, he finds a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. But the mystery and danger deepen as he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers…and their powerful enemies. Ultimately, Jake discovers that only his own special “peculiarity” can save his new friends.

‘Based on the bestselling novel by Ransom Riggs, MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Chris O’Dowd, Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, with Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson and will arrive in UK cinemas September 30 in 3D and 2D.’

Trumbo (Blu-ray Review)

June 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Michael Stuhlbarg, Louis C.K.
Director: Jay Roach
Running Time: 124 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 20th 2016 (UK)

Ever since it happened, Hollywood has had a rather tortured relationship with the Communist Witch Hunts of the 1950s. At the time the Studios largely lined up with the government and co-operated with something which most felt was wrong, but they were too afraid of what would happen to business if they didn’t. They didn’t think they could risk being seen to be defending possible communists, even if the battle against them seemed to go against American values.

As a result, stars and directors gave names to Congress, and Hollywood drew up a list of names who were blacklisted out of the industry due to their possible communist sympathies. Ever since the tide later turned against those who’d co-operated and especially those who agreed to testify in front of The House Un-American Activities Committee, Tinsel Town has never seemed certain what to do about one of its darker chapters, and has generally given it a wide berth. Gay Short Film Showcase: Golden – The importance for LGBT youth of finding out you’re not alone in the world

June 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

golden-slideGolden did well of the LGBT film festival circuit last year, and now director Kai Stänicke has felt moved to release it online following the tragic events in Orlando. You can certainly see why he felt that way, as in only three minutes it does a great job of showing the importance for LGBT people of community and finding spaces where they can find other people like themselves and feel part of something.

The film takes us through the first 20 years of a boy who is born literally golden, but he appears to be the only one like it. Or perhaps it’s just that in a world of people who don’t immediately seem like him, he simply isn’t noticing how golden the world is.

It’s a great and surprisingly moving short, so take a look at it below. If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. And check out more gay short films and web series here. [Read more…]

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-brent-life-on-the-roadDavid Brent in The Office is certainly a love him or loath him figure, although there are plenty out there who love him enough that a movie based around the character is likely to find plenty of interest. June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

i-daniel-blake-slideKen Loach has been making socially conscious cinema since the 1960s, and he’s had a huge amount of critical success, particularly at Cannes, which have given two of his movies the Palm d’Or, with numerous other prizes bestowed there on his movies. Wicked Movie Finally Gets A Release Date

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wicked-stage-slideFor almost as long as it’s been playing on Broadway, a film version of the hit musical Wicked has been in the works. However, for most of that time it’s been trapped in development hell. With musicals tending to have a mixed record at the cinemas, it’s believed executives at Universal were nervous about making such an expensive musical movie.

It also didn’t help when Disney made Oz The Great And Powerful, which delayed the Wicked movie while they judged whether that film would mean people wouldn’t want another Oz movie. But while the adaptation has had major issues, Universal has never given up on it.

Now, it finally looks like they’re getting serious, as a December 20th, 2019, release date has been set. It’s still early days though, as while it has a director in the form of Stephen Daldry, there’s no cast attached as yet. However, giving it a release date at least signifies they’re getting really serious about bringing the musical to the screen.
