September 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-damonMatt Damon has booked himself a new role and he’s going a bit dramatic for the movie Manchester By The Sea, according to THR. The movie will reunite him with Kenneth Lonergan, who he worked with a couple of years ago on the movie Margaret.

Charlie Hunnam May Find The Mountain Between Us

September 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlie-hunnam-slideAlthough the jury is still out about just how good an actor Charlie Hunnam is, Hollywood certainly feels the Sons Of Anarchy star has he’s got what it takes.

A few days ago it was revealed he was top of the list to play the lead role in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie, and now Deadline reports that he and Margot Robbie are in talks for The Mountains Between Us.

Based on Charles Martin’s book, Mountains is ‘a harrowing tale of survival and a love story. Ashley is a writer catching a flight from Salt Lake City and heading East for her wedding. Ben is a doctor returning from a medical conference. When their flight is cancelled due to a broken de-icer, the strangers agree to charter a ride, only to see the pilot suffer a heart attack and crash into a desolate snowy mountain region. He breaks ribs and she suffers a leg fracture. Fortunately, aside from a doctor he’s an avid climber, and as he struggles to get her down from the mountain in harsh weather, she begins to realize that maybe she was headed to marry the wrong guy.

Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) is set to direct the film, although it’s not known when it will shoot.

Margot Robbie On For Ghost in the Shell Movie

September 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Margot-RobbieAfter the endless issues getting a live-action version of Akira off the ground, you might have thought Hollywood would have given up on trying to adapt manga for the big screen. Now one is getting a bit closer though, as Wolf Of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie is in early negotiations to star in Dreamworks’ live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, according to TheWrap.

The movie’s been in the works for over five years (it’s a bit of a passion project for Steven Spielberg), but got momentum back in January when Rupert Sanders signed up to star.

The project is based on Masamune Shirow’s 1989 Manga, which is about a covert unit within the Japanese National Public Safety Commission who fight tech-related crimes. Since it’s publication, it’s been adapted into an animate powerhouse franchise with the likes of Ghost In The Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Ghost in the Shell: Individual Eleven, Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – The Laughing Man and Ghost in the Shell 2.0. It’s also been turned into successful videogames.

There’s still no news on when the film will shoot though.

The film is based on the Japanese Manga comics created by Masamune Shirow and follows a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission focused on fighting technological crime.
Margot Robbie’s role is currently undecided. The actress most recently starring in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill. She will next be seen in the Warner Bros. drama Focus and Craig Zobel’s sci-fi project Z for Zachariah. She is currently shooting Tarzan in which she stars as Jane opposite Alexander Skarsgå.
Rupert Sanders is directing from a script by Bill Wheeler. Avi Arad, Steven Paul and Mark Sourian will be producing. No production schedule has been released.

Zac Efron & Robert de Niro To Team Up For Dirty Grandpa

September 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zac-efron-slideRobert De Niro and Zac Efron may not be most the first duo people would think of for a comedy partnerst, but it looks like it will happen, as the two actors are in early talks to star in Dirty Grandpa, according to THR.

The movie is about is about, ‘a young man (Efron) who is tricked into driving his grandfather (De Niro), a perverted former Army general who thinks his grandson is about to marry the wrong woman, to Florida for spring break.’

Borat and Bruno co-writer Dan Mazer is set to directing from a script by John Phillips.

It’ll be interesting to see how Efron and De Niro measure up against each other in what sounds like it’ll be a bit of a gross-out comedy.

Katniss Joins The Rebel Warriors In A New Hunger Games: Mockingjay Poster

September 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hunger-Games-Mockingjay-resistance-poster7Last week a series of character posters arrived introducing us to the Rebel Warriors of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. However there was one person missing – the woman being lined up as the poster girl of the fight against the Capitol, Katniss Everdeen.

That’s now been remedied though with the poster above.

In Mockingjay Part 1, Revolution seems inevitable, but Katniss still isn’t sure if she wants to be the public face of it, even if the Districts do need someone to rally around.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is due out November 21st, 2014, with the final film (until an inevitable further sequel or spin-off is announced), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, out the same time the following year.

Jessica Chastain & Kristen Wiig May Star Opposite Matt Damon In The Martian

September 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jessica-chastainFor a few months now Matt Damon and Ridley Scott have been preparing to team up for The Martian. While the film is largely about a man stranded alone on Mars, he’s not 100% of the story, and now it looks like he’s getting some company, as Variety and Deadline report that Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are circling the movie.

There’s no news on who they might play, although it’s likely one of the actresses will be the Commander of the NASA mission that results in Damon get stuck on the Red Planet, while the other will be back at Mission Control on Earth.

The film is based on the self-published e-book by Andy Weir, with Drew Goddard having adapted the script (Goddard at one time was set to direct, but was replaced by Scott after Drew went off to make the Spider-man spin-off The Sinister Six).
