Casey Affleck May Join Chris Pine In The Finest Hours

August 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

casey-affleckDisney’s sea-set true-life tale The Finest Hours is coming together, with Deadline reporting that Casey Affleck is in talk to star alongside Chris Pine in the movie.

Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) are writing the script, which is adapted from a book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. The tells the true story of two oil tankers that got caught in the middle of a vicious storm off the coast of New England in 1952.

Things got so bad that the ships were split in two, with the crew members getting thrown into the sea. It was up to the Coast Guard to rescue them, even though conditions were horrifically dangerous.

While Robert Schwentke (Red, R.I.P.D.) was set to direct when Pine signed on, he’s since been replaced by Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm). It’s not clear when the movie will shoot.

First Pics Of Joseph Gordon Levitt In Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk Released

August 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-walk-pic2Yesterday marked the 40th Anniversary of Phillipe Petit’s August 7th, 1974 tightrope walk between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center, which made it a good time for TriStar to announce that Robert Zemeckis’ film about the event – The Walk – has wrapped principal photography, and to release the first two pics (via USA Today), which you can see above and below.

The film, based on Petit’s book To Reach the Clouds, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the young dreamer who dared the impossible: an illegal wire walk between the World Trade Center towers.

Here’s the synopsis from the official press release: ‘Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. Robert Zemeckis, the director of such marvels as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express and Flight, again uses cutting edge technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story. With innovative photorealistic techniques and IMAX 3D wizardry, The Walk is true big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. The film is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.’

Also starring in the film are James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Charlotte Le Bon, Clément Sibony and César Domboy.

The film will be released on October 2, 2015.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay District 13 Character Posters Emerge

August 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-mockingjay-district-13-logoIn the world of The Hunger Game, the 12 districts had always been told the District 13 was completely obliterated after they tried to stand up to the Capitol. However as we discover in Mockingjay, that’s not true, as that’s where Katniss and others end up and where war against the ruling elite is brewing.

Now District 13 has a logo and six character posters, which you can see above, and as you can tell, it’s not exactly a happy, jolly Elysium – indeed it appears they have a major thing for grey.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is due out November 21st, 2014, with the final film (until an inevitable further sequel or spin-off is announced), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, out the same time the following year. [Read more…]

Bryan Singer’s Sex Abuse Accuser Is Trying To Withdraw His Case (But It’s Not Over Yet)

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan-SingerFor a case that was launched with such a blaze of publicity – including very public press conferences and declarations that it was just the beginning of an effort to end a perceived Hollywood problem with underage sex – it has fizzled out pretty quickly.

In April Michael F. Egan and his then lawyer Jerry Herman filed a case against Bryan Singer in Hawaii, alleging rape and various types of sex abuse when Egan was underage back in 1999. This was followed by three further suits against other Hollywood execs and producers.

Within days those other three cases started to fall apart and were eventually dropped, and then things unravelled further last week, when Herman announced that he was attempting to withdraw as Egan’s lawyer. This came admist rumours that their relationship had completely broken down, apparently after Egan refused to settle the Singer suit for a token sum.

Now it seems Egan is seeking to drop his case against Singer too. Although the motion itself was sealed, but THR reports it is titled, ‘Plaintiff’s Opposition to Motion to Withdraw as Counsel; Request for Court Order of Dismissal, Without Prejudice or an Award of Costs or Fees, in the Interest of Justice — filed by Michael F. Egan, III (pro se)’.

The motion is therefore trying to stop Herman dropping Egan as a client, and also to allow him to withdraw his case against Singer without prejudice (meaning he could potentially refile it, assuming he can overcome statute of limitation issues). Singer meanwhile has already filed a motion to have the case thrown out with prejudice, preventing Egan from ever filing another case based around these allegations. That is due to be heard early next month.

The latest reports, again via THR, say the court has now allowed Herman to withdraw as Egan’s lawyer, but has deferred a decision on whether to allow Egan to withdraw the suit against Singer without prejudice. That part of the motion will be heard on September 9th, at the same time as the X-Men director’s attempt to have it thrown out with prejudice. The THR report also suggests Egan has found new lawyers, but they are not yet representing him in court.

To further complicate matters, there is also a case in motion that Egan and Herman filed in the California courts against four unnamed defendants, who are presumed to be the same four men named by Egan in the Hawaii cases. The presumption had been that case would also be withdrawn soon, however it’s possible Egan’s new lawyers have other plans. It would be extremely difficult to get it through the California courts due to statute of limitation issues, but it’s possible the new lawyers may use that suit, which is currently is stasis, to extract settlements in order to remove the cloud of uncertainty hanging over the accused men.

The Theory of Everything Trailer – Eddie Redmayne takes us into the world of a young Stephen Hawking

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

theory-of-everything-pic1-slideEver since he became famous, we’ve only known Stephen Hawking as a middle-aged man, who is relatively immobile in a wheelchair.

However the film The Theory Of Everything is going to take us back to his youth, when he was a carefree student at Cambridge, who at the age of 21 was diagnosed with motor neurone disease – along with a prognosis that he would be lucky if he lived just a few more years.

The trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The Theory of Everything is the story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne), and Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones) the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.

‘Little was expected from Stephen Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age. He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children. Over the course of their marriage as Stephen’s body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

‘Professor Stephen Hawking is one of the most famous scientists of our age and author of the bestseller, “A Brief History of Time”, which has sold millions of copies world-wide.’

The film should be out in the US in November, with a January 1st UK release date set. [Read more…]

New The Guest Trailer – Dan Stevens may be the world’s sexiest home invader

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Guest-pic1Dan Stevens may be the bad guy in The Guest, but boy is he looking good. Indeed, if I had to have a a possible killer in my house, at least he’d make a pretty one. To show us just what that would be like, a new trailer for the has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Still struggling over the loss of their oldest son, Caleb, to the war in Afghanistan, the Peterson family finds some solace when an unexpected visitor knocks on its door. David, a steely eyed and charismatic soldier who was recently discharged, is welcomed into their home when he comes to fulfill a promise he made to his fallen comrade. Siblings Anna and Luke are at first reluctant to accept David’s presence, but he soon wins them over by scoring kegs for Anna’s friends and roughing up some bullies from Luke’s school. Though he appears to be the perfect houseguest, a mysterious and sinister chain of events causes Anna to question whether David is actually whom he claims to be.’

The film will screen at London’s Frightfest later this month and be in cinemas later this year. [Read more…]

New Penguins of Madagascar Trailer – The birds team up with Benedict Cumberbatch

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

penguins-of-madagascar-pic1There are plenty out there who think that without the Penguins, the Madagascar franchise wouldn’t have been the success it was (ditto Scrat in Ice Age) – DreamWorks Animation certainly thinks they’re popular, as they’ve already had animated special and a TV series, and now they’re getting a movie.

A new trailer for the film has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Discover the secrets of the most entertaining and mysterious birds in the global espionage game: Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private now must join forces with the chic spy organization, the North Wind, led by Agent Classified (we could tell you his name, but then … you know), voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine, voiced by John Malkovich, from taking over the world.’

The film is due out towards the end of the year. [Read more…]

Terminator 5 Becomes Terminator: Genisys And Gets A Logo

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-logoA couple of months before it started shooting, the fifth Terminator movie became known as Terminator: Genesis. Well, it turns out that was almost right, except the title isn’t quite a dictionary perfect, as it’s actually going to be Terminator: Genisys.

Arnie first let us know about this spelling alteration by putting the picture below on Instagram, which was shortly followed by the logo above on the Terminator Twitter account.

The announcement coincides with the end of shooting, which Arnie marks by saying, ‘Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.’

There’s no news on what Genisys itself might be, although the speculation at the moment is that it’s some kind of software related to Skynet, or that it’s the beginning of the programme that ends up creating cyborgs.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) directs, with Arnie starring alongside Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, Byung-Hun Lee, and JK Simmons.

Taylor Kitsch May Take The Lead In The Raid Remake

August 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

taylor-kitsch-shirtless-john_carterHollywood’s so far unsuccessful attempts to turn Taylor Kitsch into a bona fide A-list star (and they really have been trying) continues with the news, via The Wrap, that he’s been offered the lead in the English-language remake of The Raid.

Some would say we already got that – but with a sci-fi twist – with Dredd, but Screen Gems hopes to start shooting its take on the 2011 Indonesian hit movie next January.

However Kitsch being part of the movie is far from a done deal. While it appears the actor and the studio are in talks, rumours suggest they’re far apart in terms of the money being aked. There’s also the fact Kitsch is in talks for the second season of True Detective. Although he may be able to do both, they’d have sort out the scheduling carefully, as True Detective is due to wrap around the same time The Raid remake starts.

Frank Grillo is also likely to star, with Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) directing from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace).

The original The Raid featured a team of policemen who become trapped in an apartment building that is the heavily secured stronghold of a drug lord who is determined that none of them will make it out alive. It was more the fighting and action than the plot that impressed people though. The remake is said to be set in the world of DEA fast teams, and will feature a clash between different fighting styles.
