Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk Teaser Trailer – First look at Ang Lee’s take on the military tale

May 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

billy-lynn-pic1The reports from those who saw the first footage gushed that it looked like once again Life Of Pi helmer Ang Lee had produced an incredible looking movie. Now we get to take a look for ourselves with the first teaser trailer. It certainly does a great job of suggesting this could be one hell of a movie and real Oscar contender.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Three-time Academy Award® winner Ang Lee brings his extraordinary vision to Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, based on the widely-acclaimed, bestselling novel. The film is told from the point of view of 19-year-old private Billy Lynn (newcomer Joe Alwyn) who, along with his fellow soldiers in Bravo Squad, becomes a hero after a harrowing Iraq battle and is brought home temporarily for a victory tour. Through flashbacks, culminating at the spectacular halftime show of the Thanksgiving Day football game, the film reveals what really happened to the squad – contrasting the realities of the war with America’s perceptions. The film also stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Garrett Hedlund, with Vin Diesel, and Steve Martin. Lee used new technology, shooting at an ultra-high frame rate for the first time in film history, to create an immersive digital experience helping him dramatize war in a way never seen before.’

It’ll be out in cinemas towards the end of the year. [Read more…]

Jack Black In Talks To Join Kevin Hart & Dwayne Johnson In The Jumanji Reboot

May 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-blackA few weeks ago it was revealed that Kevin Hart & Dwayne Johnson were in talks to start in the planned reboot of Jumanji. Now it turns out Hart isn’t the only funnyman in the mix, as TheWrap reports that Jack Black is up to play the third of the film’s five main roles.

It’s not known exactly how this reboot will handle the story, but it will still be based around the basic concept of a board game where what happens in the game also happens in real life, which causes havoc when the jungle starts to erupt into reality. However, with Johnson, Hart and Black, it may be a little more grown-up in tone than the 1995 movie.

Johnson has also been keen to point out that they intend to be respectful towards the earlier film and honour the memory of the original. Some have taken his comments to suggest this will be more sequel than complete reboot, but that’s currently unconfirmed. Jake Kasdan will direct.

Lupita Nyong’o Up For Marvel’s Black Panther

May 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lupita-nyongoChadwick Boseman’s Black Panther has already made its first appearance in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, ahead of a stand alone movie planned for 2018. The movie now has a new name attached, as THR reports that Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star in the movie.

It’s not known who Nyong’o would play in the film, but she’s described as the title character’s love interest in the Ryan Coogler directed movie.

Black Panther is the chieftain of the Panther Clan in the fictional African country of Wakanda. His powers are derived from a special herb that grants him superhuman strength, speed, and stamina. Andy Serkis is also onboard as the villainous Ulysses Klaue, with Martin Freeman also expected to show up as Everett Ross. Marvel first dropped hints about this long-awaited project in Iron Man 2, where the map of Wakanda was briefly displayed. However, it took them longer to perfect the script than originally planned, moving the character’s movie back to 2018.

Assassin’s Creed Trailer – Michael Fassbender unlocks genetic memories of an anti-Templar past

May 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

assassins-creed-slideVideogames-to-movies don’t have a great reputation, but that’s partly because the resulting film are often cheesy and have a slightly cheap, churned-out feeling. However Fox seems to be really hoping to change that with Assassin’s Creed by spending a lot of money, bringing together a great cast, a director with great dramatic credentials and ensuring the whole thing looks really good.

Now they’ve released the first trailer, trying to get interest brewing even though the actual movie isn’t due out until next year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

‘ASSASSIN’S CREED stars Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose). The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth) and produced by New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall, with 20th Century Fox distributing.’

Parched Trailer – Four women find power in one another in a patriarchal world

May 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

parched-slideParched looks like it could be a great little world, focussing on a quartet of women living in a society that seems determined to make them powerless, subjugated and potentially subject to violence with inpunity, but who manage to find strength in one another.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘PARCHED is an inspirational drama about women set in the heart of parched rural landscape of Gujarat, India. It traces the bittersweet tale of four ordinary women: traditional Rani, a young widow; lively Lajjo, who lives in an abusive marriage; outcast Bijli, a dancer and prostitute who becomes friends with Rani and Lajjo; and Janaki, a young teenager in a miserable arranged marriage to Rani’s son Gulab.

‘Behind closed doors, the women unapologetically talk about men, sex and life as they struggle with their individual boundaries and their inner demons. Gradually, they begin question the century-old traditions that have kept them locked in servitude. One fateful night, the friends join forces and take a bold step that will change the trajectory of their lives.

‘Shot by Academy Award-winning cinematographer, Russell Carpenter (TITANIC).’

Wolfe Releasing will be handling the film’s US release. [Read more…]

Does Disney’s Zootropolis Feature A Married Gay Couple?

May 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

zootropolis-quad-slideThere’s been a bit of a movement online recently that in the sequel to Frozen, Disney should give Elsa a girlfriend, following many years os people pointing at that while animation has gotten slowly more diverse, Disney’s output has remained pretty heterosexual (although there was a brief hint in Frozen that sauna owner Oaken was gay). However, now a Reddit thread suggests that there’s decent evidence that the House Of Mouse may have included a married gay couple in the recently released Zootropolis (known as Zootopia in the US).

In the movie, the young rabbit hero, Judy Hopps, moves to a city full of animals in the hope of becoming the first bunny to become a police officer. In her new apartment, she has two noisy antelope neighbours called Bucky and Pronk. While the movie is far from explicit – and the characters could have just been roommates – there is one strong hint they are actually married.

While there has previously been suggestions that they are gay, there hasn’t been a huge amount of evidence, but a viewer spotted that in the credits they are listed as Bucky Oryx-Antlerson and Pronk Oryx-Antlerson. That could mean they are brothers, but the double-barelling of the surname is suggestive that they’ve actually a couple. It is all pretty subtle and far from the more open LGBT characters in the likes of Paranorman, but it is perhaps at least a small step in the right direction.

Nerve Trailer – Emma Roberts and Dave Franco get involved in a dangerous game

May 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nerve-slideThere’s a lot of concern about what young people get up to online, and that seems to be something Catfish’s Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost’s Nerve, about an online game of truth or dare. However, as it’s a movie things soon get out of hand.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Industrious high school senior, Vee Delmonico [Emma Roberts], has had it with living life on the sidelines. When pressured by friends to join the popular online game Nerve, Vee decides to sign up for just one dare in what seems like harmless fun. But as she finds herself caught up in the thrill of the adrenaline-fueled competition partnered with a mysterious stranger [Dave Franco], the game begins to take a sinister turn with increasingly dangerous acts, leading her into a high stakes finale that will determine her entire future.’

And as you can from the pic above, Dave Franco (and his big nipples) have certainly been working out!

Take a look at the trailer below. The film is out in the US in July. [Read more…]

The Woods Trailer – Is Adam Wingard’s film the ‘scariest movie in decades’?

May 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

woods-poster-slideIt’s certainly a bold (if short) synopsis to say a movie is ‘One of the scariest movies in decades, THE WOODS reinvents horror with a completely fresh and terrifying take on the genre.’ However, that’s the claim being made for Adam Wingard’s latest.

The director has shown he has talent with the likes of You’re Next and The Guest, but reinventing horror with one of the scariest film in decades is quite a claim. However, it seems they’re intent on keep the exact details of the plot a secret, as the synopsis gives little away and the trailer that’s now arrived mainly tries to set a creepy and intense tone.

Take a look at the trailer and poster below. Callie Hernandez, James Allen McCune, Brandon Scott, Wes Robinson, and Corbin Reid star in the movie, which is due out in the UK in September. [Read more…]

Gay ‘Porn’ Short Film Allegedly Written By John Gielgud To Be Screened, Despite Some Thinking It Would Never Be Legally Shown

May 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-gielgudIn November 2014 many were surprised to hear that a gay ‘porn’ short film was being planned that was supposedly written by acclaimed actor and Oscar-winner, John Gielgud (Arthur, Calugula, Chariots Of Fire). What was less surprising was the news that Gielgud’s estate wasn’t impressed with that idea and had apparently refused to give permission for it to be made, feeling it wasn’t ‘appropriate’.

However those behind ‘Trouser Bar’ went ahead anyway, which resulted in many wondering whether it would ever be able to be legally screened. After all, if Gielgud’s estate had said ‘no’ to making the film, surely it wouldn’t be possible to release the short? However, now the first screenings have been announced as part of Peccadillo Picture’s POUTfest LGBT film tour around the UK, and it should also appear on the DVD release of Boy On Film 15 – Time And Ties: Gay British Short Film Collection. The first screening is planned for July.

However, when it is screened Trouser Bar not be officially connected to Gielgud. Producer David McGillivray has told us, “Originally thought to be written by a celebrated theatrical knight, the film is now being released with its screenplay unattributed”.

He adds, “The John Gielgud Charitable Trust denies Sir John’s authorship of ‘Trouser Bar’ and therefore so must I.”

The Gielgud attribution is based on the word of the late ‘grandfather of gay porn’, Peter de Rome, who said the Trouser Bar script had been given to him by the actor as a project for Peter to direct, after Gielgud had enjoyed some of de Rome’s earlier gay porn shorts. de Rome never made the film, but eventually passed the script to McGillivray, producer of the documentaries Fragments: The Incomplete Films of Peter de Rome and Peter De Rome: Grandfather of Gay Porn.

Helmed by gay porn director Kristen Bjorn, Trouser Bar is set in a menswear shop in 1970s London, where there’s more than a taste of corduroy that’s on the mind of its young customers. The short also features cameos from Julian Clary, Barry Cryer and Nigel Havers, as passers-by looking through the window of the shop to see what’s going on inside.

It’s certainly an interesting situation as the John Gielgud Charitable Trust can only really object to the screenings by accepting it is the late actor’s work, and therefore that his only known produced screenplay is for a gay ‘porn’ short. There may still be some blowback, as previously the Estate has suggested they may think it is Gielgud’s work, telling the Daily Mail last November that, “Earlier this year, the trustees decided not give their permission for it to be produced because they didn’t think it was appropriate. They didn’t have to go into detail because they own the copyright.” However, unless the Charitable Trust does decide to officially claim it as the actor’s work, it is likely the screenings and DVD release can go ahead, but without an attribution or official link to Gielgud.

Go-Go Boy Interrupted: S2, Ep6 – Is Danny really going to do gay porn?

May 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

go-go-boy-interrupted-s2-ep5After spending the last episode trying to decide whether to do gay porn or not, Danny is now on the set and getting ready for his big scene. However, he’s having a few issues, not with his equipment but with the dialogue before he gets to down to business. It’s not the traditional issues with bad acting, it’s more than Danny can’t quite work out what sort of improvisation is needed.

You also won’t be surprised to hear that when it comes to the sex, Danny’s not quite as prepared for that as he thought he was. All-in-all, it’s not an auspicious start to a porn career!

Take a look at the new episode below. And if you need to catch up with early episodes of Go-Go Boy Interrupted, you can click here to find them. [Read more…]
