Chris Pine Plans To Cross The Line For Director David Gordon Green

January 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-pine-out-magazine2-slideChris Pine hasn’t had a huge amount of luck outside the Star Trek franchise, with the likes of This Means War and Jack Ryan failing to find success at the cinema. However he’ll hoping for better with The Line, as THR reports he’s set to headline the thriller for director David Gordon Green.

The movie is about a patrol agent (Pine) whose begins to spiral out of control after his wife and son die. He reluctantly ends up having to look after a young child who was orphaned when a criminal cartel killed his parents. Pine’s character is forced to go on the run to protect the boy, after he realises he has enemies on both sides of the law.

David Gordon Green is directing from a script by Sang-kyung Kim (The Walking Dead).

James Franco Up For A Sausage Party Alongside Jonah Hill & Seth Rogen

January 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-francoBack in September is was revealed that Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill were writing an R-rated animated comedy called Sausage Party. However at that point it wasn’t clear if either would have voice roles, but now it’s been confirmed we will indeed hear them both, as well as their This Is the End co-stars James Franco, Michael Cera and David Krumholtz, along with Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton and Nick Kroll.

The movie is about a sausage who falls out of his shopping cart and goes on a journey with some new friends through the supermarket, in order to find his way back home before the mania of the Independence Day sale.

Another on of the co-writers, Evan Goldberg, has previously described is as an “existential mock-Pixar movie.”

It’s not know who any of the actors will voice, but Conrad Vernon (Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted) and Greg Tiernan are directing from a script written by Rogen, Goldberg, Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, based on a story by Rogen, Goldberg and Hill. The film should be in cinemas in 2015.

That Awkward Moment (Cinema)

January 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Imogen Poots, Michael B. Jordan, Addison Timlin
Director: Tom Gormican
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 29th 2013

Zac Efron is branching out from his heartthrob image and is now in the more adult, blokey phase of his career. To be fair, it’s a part that fits him pretty well, and That Awkward Moment, while clearly a vehicle for his talents, has plenty more going for it than just him. It’s bawdy, funny, charming and easy to watch, and gets to the point pretty economically. It’s only real weakness is the casting of Imogen Poots, but more of her later.

Efron is Jason, a book cover designer who is enjoying the life of a single man in New York. When his pal Mikey (Michel B. Jordan) announces he is divorcing his wife (Jessica Lucas) he, Jason and Daniel (Miles Teller) form a pact, to remain single to help each other out in bars, keep each other company and always be there for each other. Take A Look At Tom Hiddleston As Captain America & Auditioning To Play Thor (With His Shirt Off)

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems to be the day of Tom Hiddleston playing every Marvel character except for Loki. Footage of him having fun on the Thor: The Dark World set dressed as Captain America has shown up online, as has a look at his audition to play Thor himself, before he was cast as his nefarious brother.

If you’ve seen The Dark World, you’ll know there’s a brief appearance from Chris Evans as the Cap, but he actually never set foot on set. Instead there was Hiddleston in a Captain America costume, looking far skinnier than Evans but still surprisingly hot. That footage has now been revealed via Empire, which you can watch above.

You may not be aware that a few years ago Tom also did a screen test to play Thor, packing on 20 pounds of muscle so he could do a shirtless audition. The footage of his test will be available as part of Thor: The Dark World home entertainment release, and while the video isn’t available online, you can take a look at a couple of GIFs from it below (via ScreenCrush).

He would have been a very different kind of Norse god than Chris Hemsworth, but he certainly brings plenty of intensity and he’s certainly have been a cute Thor. And now it’s difficult to imagine him playing anyone but Loki, a role he’s managed to turn from evil villain to one of the most popular characters in the Marvel universe. That said, he certainly looks good with his shirt off while holding his hammer. [Read more…]

We’re The Millers Helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber Will Choose Your Own Adventure

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rawson-marshall-thurberLast June it was revealed that Fox was developing a movie based on the Choose Your Own Adventure novels. Many people will remember them as books where you got to choose where the story would go by picking an option and turning to that page.

Many wondered how a film based on them would work, but Fox must feel they’ve found a way as they’ve signed We’re The Millers helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber to direct. Night at the Museum’s Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon are also in final negotiations to come up with the script, according to THR.

It’s now know how the movie will work, although Fox has rights to all the titles in the 1980s book series, so there’s plenty of material to work from. While they could potentially do a straight adaptation of one of the books, it’s more likely they’ll try to bring in the concept of choosing the direction the story will take (although presumably it’ll be the characters choosing not the audience).

There’s no news on when we might see the film.

Starred Up Trailer – Jack O’Connell & Ben Mendelsohn head for prison

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack O’Connell may not be a name you know well now, but he may be a lot more famous by the end of the year thanks to major roles in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and 300: Rise Of An Empire. Before then he’s got Starred Up, which also stars Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend in a prison drama.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In STARRED UP, Jack O’Connell gives a star-making performance as 19 year-old Eric Love, a violent and troubled teenager making the difficult transition from a young offenders’ institute to adult prison. He seems to be destined for a life behind bars, but the prison’s unconventional therapist (Rupert Friend) is determined to help Eric find a way through, assisted by of one of the prison’s longest serving inmates – Neville (Ben Mendelsohn) – who just happens to be Eric’s father.’

It’s in UK cinemas on March 21st. [Read more…]

Joe Trailer – Nicolas Cage gets serious for director David Gordon Green

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For the past few years David Gordon Green had become best known for mainstream comedies such as Your Highness, Pineapple Express and The Sitter, however before that he mad this name with great indie fare such as George Washington and Undertow.

Now he’s heading back into more serious territory with Joe, starring Nicolas Cage. And the first trailer has been released.

The film is based on the novel by Larry Brown about an ex-con who starts an unlikely friendship with a 15-year-old by named Gary Jones. Captain America 3 Already In The Works With Joe & Anthony Russo Set To Return To Direct

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-chris-evansIt’s still a couple of months until Captain America: The Winter Soldier is being released, but Marvel must be confident it’s going to be a success. It’s not that surprising that Marvel is already thinking about Captain America 3, but it certainly suggests they reckon the second instalment is shaping up to be good as they’ve already attached to directors of Winter Soldier, Joe and Anthony Russo, to helm.

Variety has the news that the Russo’s will probably be back, although they caution that official negotiations about their return won’t happen until after Winter Soldier’s release. However great test screening results for Cap 2 has ensured Marvel has moved to attach them to a third film.

There’s no news on when we might see the film. It’ll be a couple of years at least, as not only do we have Winter Soldier, but Captain America will also appear in Avengers: Age Of Ultron before he gets another standalone adventure.

Winter Soldier hits UK cinemas on March 28th and US theatre on April 4th.

Benedict Cumberbatch Going Up Blood Mountain

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-cumberbatchBenedict Cumberbatch appears to want to do something mountainous. He was attached to Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak but ended up backing out of that, however now he’s going to be scaling the indie thriller Blood Mountain instead, according to Variety.

Jonathan W. Stokes wrote the original script, with extra work done by John Romano. Sergei Bodrov (Mongol, Seventh Son) is set to direct.

The movie ‘follows a private military contractor whose special forces team is ambushed and killed during a covert raid, forcing him to personally escort one of the world’s most wanted terrorists over hostile terrain in order to bring him to justice. With a bounty at stake and insurgents and rival mercenaries hunting them, the two find themselves facing not only their enemies, but each other in their fight for survival.’

It’ll start shooting in Morocco in April.

Fast & Furious’s Justin Lin Producing Toymageddon

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-linJustin Lin has mainly worked with Universal on the Fast & Furious franchise and also has a first-look deal there. However he’s stretching his wings as  Fox has picked up the rights to the live-action family adventure Toymageddon for Lin to produce, according to THR.

Not much is known about the plot, although the title alone should give you an idea. All that is known is that the project is based on a original idea by producer Tariq Merhab. It will be set in a chaotic toy factory. It’s being described as a live-action family adventure movie in the same vein as Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters.

The studio is current looking for someone to pen the script. Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar, Bard Dorros and Tariq Merhab will also produce.

Lin might also direct, although that will depend on the script.

Ellen DeGeneres Produced Lesbian-Themed Comedy Gets A Pilot At NBC

January 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ellen-degeneres2012 was supposed to be the year gay men took over US TV, but both The New Normal and Partners failed to make it past a short first season. Now it’s the ladies’ turn, as THR reports that a lesbian-themed comedy has received a pilot order at NBC.

The show, One Big Happy, has a good pedigree as Ellen DeGeneres will executive produce the show through her A Very Good Production company. Liz Feldman, who is also gay and has worked on the likes of Girls and 2 Broke Girls, will come up with the script and produce.

One Big Happy, ‘centers on a lesbian who gets pregnant just as her straight male best friend meets and marries the love of his life’.

It certainly reaffirms NBC’s commitment to LGBT characters. Sadly shows such as Go On and Smash failed to find much of an audience and were cancelled, but the network has continued to commission shows with gay characters such as Sean Saves The World. It’s probably not a coincidence that NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt is gay, and previously saw success when he was at Showtime by giving the go ahead to The L Word and the US version of Queer As Folk, both of which were big successes for the cable network.

Of course, getting a pilot doesn’t mean One Big Happy will inevitably get a series, but with the likes of Degeneres backing it, hopefully a team can be brought together to make it a success.

Guy Ritchie Has Ambitious Plans For King Arthur Movies

January 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guy-ritchieWarner Bros. needs to make up its mind. In December 2011 it cancelled the movie Arthur & Lancelot shortly before it was due to shooting over budget concerns – and as a result the likes of Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman were out of a job. However now it’s planning not just one Arthurian movie, but potentially six of them.

Deadline reports that Guy Ritchie, who’s been a Warner fave ever since Sherlock Holmes hit it big, has signed up to help develop and direct at least the first of the films.

Joby Harold came up with the idea for a series of fantasy Arthurian movie, which Warner is now running with – although presumably they’ll leave themselves with an out in case the first film doesn’t succeed. There’s no news on exactly which direction it’ll take the legendary tales of Arthur and his Round Table, although there’s plenty of material to work with.

It’s not the first time Ritchie has worked with Warner on the idea of a King Arthur movie. Last time was a film which Trainspotting’s John Hodge was writing. However that never got past the relatively early development stage. As Warner seems to love the idea of an Arthur movie but have had real trouble actually getting one into production, there’s absolutely no guarantee we’ll get to see this one. Hopefully it’ll have more luck than previous efforts though.
