Hugh Jackman May Be Blackbeard In Joe Wright’s Pan

December 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

les-miserables-hugh-jackmanHugh Jackman may be turning pirate as Variety reports that after Javier Bardem passed on the role, Hugh is in talks to play Blackbeard in Pan. Joe Wright is directing the Peter Pan prequel, which is in a bit of a race to the screen against Disney’s Peter and the Starcatchers, based on the ‘official’ Pan prequel novel.

Previously there haven’t been many plot details for Pan, but Variety opens up a little, saying ‘The origin story revolves around an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates.

‘The idea is that Blackbeard is the film’s main antagonist while Hook would serve as Pan’s close ally before turning bad. Ryan Gosling was someone the studio had looked at among others for the part.’

The studio is now likely to hold an open casting for the role of Peter, and is also looking for an actress in her 20s to play Tiger Lily. It’s not clear when it might shoot.

December 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

clancy-brownThe cast of Warcraft is certainly filling up ahead of the shoot, which begins in a few week’s time. It’s been announced that Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown have signed up join the cast of Warcraft, which will see them star alongside the likes of Travis Fimmel, Paul Patton, Ben Foster, Robert Kazinsky, Dominic Cooper and Toby Kebbell.

David Dobkin To Direct Hugh Hefner Biopic

December 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

david-dobkinIt’s almost surprising that nobody has made a major Hugh Hefner biopic before now, but it seems one is coming, as Variety reports David Dobkin is in talks to direct one for Warner Bros. The project was previously known as Playboy but now it doesn’t have a title.

Peter Morgan is writing the screenplay, which will return him to the same 70s era as his 2008 drama Frost/Nixon. No story details have been given, and it isn’t known if the project plans to focus on just one time in Hugh Hefner’s life, or follow him through his life. It would seem to be the former, as while Variety talks about a 70s setting, Hugh founded Playboy Magazine back in 1953, building the magazine into a media empire while living the swinging bachelor life well into his 80s.

Jerry Weintraub is producing the drama, which Warner Bros. picked up out of turnaround at Universal. The studio is now focusing on finding the right actor to play the Playboy founder. When the project was at Universal, the studio sought out actors such as Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr., and it is believed that Warner Bros. will be seeking an actor with a similar charm. Perhaps Dobkin can get Downey Jr. interested again, as he recently finished working with him on The Judge.

Brad Pitt May Go Like Hell Alongside Tom Cruise

December 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brad-pitt-chanel-no-5Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise haven’t worked together since Interview With The Vampire in 1994, but now they may get back together as THR reports that Brad Pitt is being courted to star alongside Tom Cruise in the auto racing drama, Go Like Hell.

Tom Cruise signed up for the project in October, with the film reuniting him with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski. The actor is playing Ford auto designer Carroll Shelby, which follows Ford’s rivalry with Ferrari for supremacy at the annual 24-hour LeMans race. It’s based on A.J. Baime’s book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans.

This isn’t Pitt’s first flirtation with the movie, as he was attached to star back in 2009, when Michael Mann was set to direct. While that fell through, the actor remained interested and kept in touch with the new production team, even though he wasn’t officially attached any more. It’s now clear who Pitt may play.

Paul Rudd Confirmed To Be Marvel’s Ant-Man

December 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-ruddYesterday it was reported Paul Rudd was in early talks to play Ant Man in Marvel’s upcoming superhero movie, now it seems it wasn’t early talks at all as Marvel has officially announced that Rudd will play the role in the film.

Here’s what they has to say: ‘Marvel’s “Ant-Man” has found its hero in Paul Rudd, who will star in the new film from director Edgar Wright hitting theaters July 31, 2015!

‘The casting of Rudd represents the actor that Marvel had long ago identified as its first choice to play Ant-Man, continuing the studio’s desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes. The film’s plot is being kept under wraps.

‘“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

‘Rudd brings a diverse background to the role having become one of the industry’s most known actors with a reputation for smart, funny and creative performances. Rudd can currently be seen in “Anchor Man 2: The Legend Continues,” as well as past roles in “Anchorman,” “This Is 40,” “I Love You, Man,” “Role Models,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Our Idiot Brother,” “Knocked Up,” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” among numerous other films, television shows and primetime animation.’

We love ourselves a bit of Paul Rudd, so this seems a great choice to us.
