Portia Doubleday Joins Carrie, With Judy Greer Confirmed For The Film

June 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Young actress Portia Doubleday, who’s appeared in the likes of Youth In Revolt and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son has signed on to star in the MGM Studios’ remake of Stephen King’s Carrie for director Kimberly Peirce, according to Deadline.

The actress will play bad girl Chris Hargensen, who torments the title character, played by Chloe Moretz. Carrie’s telekinetic abilities are harnessed after Hargensen pulls a cruel prom night prank. Hargensen was played by Nancy Allen in the original Carrie.

Last month Judy Greer entered talks to play gym teacher, Miss Desjardin, and the casting has now been confirmed. Julianne Moore, Ivana Baquero, Gabriella Wilde, and Alex Russell also star. Kimberly Peirce is directing from a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Shooting is epected to start soon, with a US release already set for March 15th, 2013.

Aaron Johnson & Chloe Moretz In Talks For Kick Ass 2

June 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Universal announced a few weeks ago that it was moving forward with kick Ass, it had a small problem – none of the cast were signed for a sequel. The studio, along with director Jeff Wadlow are trying to remedy that, as Deadline reports that they’re close to finalising deals with Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz to return for Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is also close to finalizing his deal, and Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to return in a cameo role. None of the Kick-Ass cast members had sequel deals in place, which fueled speculation that some of the roles may be re-cast. There are still several other new roles yet to be filled.

Jeff Wadlow is directing from his own screenplay, which is adapted from Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic book series. If all the deals are finalised, production will likely begin in August.

Dark Shadows (Cinema)

May 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp
Director: Tim Burton
Running Time: 113 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: May 11th, 2012

Dark Shadows has always been a somewhat problematic proposition for a film conversion, especially as it’s been brought to the screen by people who are obviously in love with the original US soap opera that ran between 1966 and 1971. The show ran for over 1,000 episodes and featured a vast array of characters and all sorts of different supernatural shenanigans. Those then needed to be distilled down to a single movie that’ll work for a generation who’ve never seen the show.

It’s a challenge that Dark Shadows only partially succeeds in, with the whole thing having the whiff of being filled things Johnny Depp and Tim Burton wanted to include, but which might have been better to have dispensed with. [Read more…]

Chloe Moretz & Paddy Considine On For Zombie Story Maggie

May 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chloe Moretz is in cinemas today with Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, but she’s already busy lining up future projects, with Variety reporting that the 15-year-old is in talks to star in Maggie for Inferno Entertainment and director Henry Hobson.

The story centres on a father’s unconditional love for his daughter, which is put to the test after a widespread zombie epidemic. Chloe Moretz is negotiating to play the daughter, while Paddy Considine has entered discussions to portray the loving father.

Chloe Moretz seems to to like horror, as he has already played a vampire in Let Me In, and is attached to the title role in a remake of Carrie.

Jeff Wadlow Set To Direct Kick-Ass 2

May 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Kick-Ass failed to break the bank, it looked like any plans for a follow-up were sytmied, even though one has been in development. However its continued popularity on DVD and Blu-ray means that Universal is now looking to move forward with a sequel. Unfortunately though, Matthew Vaughn won’t direct, with Deadline reporting that Jeff Wadlow (Cry Wolf) will take the reins instead and also write the script.

Vaughn isn’t completely out of the picture, as he’ll produce and has been overseeing Wadlow’s screenplay, even if X-Men: First Class 2 mean he can’t direct himself. If everything works out, the movie will shoot in August. There’s a lot to sort out before then though, as all the cast need to be called back, with new deals needing to be sorted for Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

It’s not all locked in place yet, but as many people had written this one off, it’s looking far more likely than it has for a long time.

Hick Trailer – Chloe Moretz goes on a wild ride

April 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hick is certainly not your usual teenage road trip flick. Chloe Moretz plays 13-year-old Nebraska girl Luli, who has been dealt a rough hand. Her mother and father spend their evenings getting obnoxiously plastered at the local watering hole, then go at it like a pair of trashy, drunk teenagers. Certain she’s destined for a more glamorous life, Luli packs her things – including her new birthday gift, a Smith & Wesson .45 – and hitches a ride to Vegas. Dressed like a girl twice her age, she’s immediately picked up by a wannabe cowboy named Eddie (Eddie Redmayne), who walks with a limp and acts a little too crazy for comfort. The two fail to hit it off and Luli is ejected from the car. Luckily, she soon meets Glenda (Blake Lively), a grifter who acts as Luli’s big sister – albeit one who offers her drugs and uses her as an accessory to a robbery. Just as things seem to be going moderately well for Luli, Eddie makes an unwelcome return and becomes increasingly difficult to evade. Luli’s life on the road takes more than few calamitous detours, but her flippant attitude and feisty demeanor prevent the dark moments from veering into gratuitously grim territory. No UK release is currently set.

Ray Liotta Getting Stuck Into The Rut

April 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although from a British perspective it’s tough to imagine all that many people wanting to pay to watch a movie about hunting deer, shooting things is popular in the States and so you can get a film like The Rut. The movie now has a new cast member, as Variety reports that Ray Liotta is set to take on the villain role in director Karyn Kusama’s (Jennifer’s Body) film.

Chloe Moretz is playing the lead role in the movie, which is described as a mix between Whale Rider and Winter’s Bone. The story follows a young girl who sets out on a lone deer hunt in the woods to impress her father (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Ray Liotta will play an obsessive bow hunter who considers Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character his bitter rival.

The film will shoot later this year for release next year.

Julianne Moore In Talks For Carrie Remake

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It may be called Carrie, but the juiciest role in both Stephen King’s book and the 1976 book is the lead character’s mother – indeed it gave Piper Laurie a rare horror movie acting Oscar nomination. Now MGM’s planned remake may have found its harridan of a mom in the form of Julianne Moore, according to Bloody Disgusting.

Chloe Moretz is set to star as the title character, a troubled teenage girl who uses her telekinetic abilities to get revenge on the classmates who tormented her. Moore will play Carrie’s deranged mother, who is more terrifying and damaging to her daughter the the school bullies.

Kimberly Peirce (Boy Don’t Cry) is directing from a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The plan is to start shooting as soon as possible in order to hit the March 15, 2013 release date MGM has already set for it.

Based loosely on a true story, Mike Sounder (Sam Worthington) and Brian Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) play two cops investigating crime in the Texas bayous. Heigh becomes increasingly drawn to a series of murders where the bodies of the victims are dumped in an area that’s become known as The Killing Fields. Local guy Souder warns New York transplant Heigh against getting too deep into the investigation, partly because it’s outside their jurisdiction and partly because he knows it’s dangerous and you can get lost in trying to make sense of what’s going on.

However Heigh can’t give up and soon attracts the attention of the killer, who starts to seem as if he’s taunting the police with red herring clues. Then a local girl goes missing and the stakes are raised. [Read more…]

First Poster For Hick Debuts, Featuring Chloe Moretz

March 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I can’t think of any other juvenile actress who’s spent so much of her career with a gun in her hand, but Kick Ass’ Hit Girl, Chloe Moretz, is getting out the pistols once more on the first poster for her upcoming film, Hick.

Derick Martini’s (Lymelife) film is about a rural Nebraska girl, Luli (Moretz), who gets more than she bargained for when she runs away after her hick family abandons her. Luli heads to Los Angeles, meeting numerous unsavoury characters along the way. Both funny and very dramatic – in Andrea Portes’ book Luli’s life of the road involves her becoming an accessory to a robbery as well as getting raped and tied up in a motel.

It’s out in the US in May, but there’s no UK date set as yet.
