The Rewrite Trailer – Hugh Grant returns to rom-com land alongside Marisa Tomei

While Hugh Grant is probably best known for making romantic comedies, he hasn’t actually been in one since 2009’s dreadful Did You Hear About The Morgans?. However now he’s back in that territory with The Rewrite, which comes from Marc Lawrence, writer of Two Weeks Notice and Miss Congenialty.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Once upon a time, screenwriter Keith Michaels (Hugh Grant) was on top of the world – a Golden Globe Award and a hit movie to his name, a beautiful wife and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of wit and charm. But that was fifteen years ago: now, he’s divorced, broke, approaching fifty and hasn’t written a hit film in years. Luckily, his agent has a job for him – a university in the quiet town of Binghamton is looking for someone to teach a course in screenwriting, and with an empty wallet as his motivation, Keith can’t say no. Hoping to give minimal attention to his duties and focus on writing a new script, his attitude slowly begins to turn when he meets Holly (Marisa Tomei). A single mum working two jobs to earn her degree, the pair find themselves connected by their mutual need for a second chance.’

Jared Harris Joins Henry Cavill & Armie Hammer In Man From U.N.C.L.E.

After decades in the making, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is finally making the jump from TV to the big screen, with Guy Ritchie directing and Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill in the lead roles. With just a week to go until it starts shooting they’ve got some new company, as THR reports that Jared Harris has signed on for the movie.

Cavill and Hammer are set to play Napoleon Solo and Illya Kullyakin, agents of United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) who protect the Earth from the evil organization Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesireables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.).

Hugh Grant is also onboard as the head of British Naval Intelligence, with Alicia Vikander as a British agent who has an affinity for cars. There’s no info on what Harris will be doing in the movie. Don’t be surprised if he’s being villainous though, as that’s what he’s normally cast as (not least in Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows.

Hugh Grant Joins Henry Cavill & Armie Hammer In The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

It took over a decade to get the adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. from idea to shoot, but since Warner Bros. gave it the greenlight a couple of months ago it’s been moving fast towards an early September filming start date.

Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer are already set for the lead roles, and now they’ve been joined by Hugh Grant, according to Deadline, who’s signed on for a supporting role in the Guy Ritchie flick.

Alicia Vikander is also on-board to play the female lead, a British agent who has an affinity for cars. The film is, of course, based on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. TV series which ran from 1964 to 1968.

J.K. Simmons & Chris Elliott Join Hugh Grant Comedy

jk-simmons A few months ago Hugh Grant agreed to take some time off fighting the press to actually star in a movie, which Marc Lawrence will direct (incidentally, Lawrence has never helmed a movie that didn’t star Hugh). Now he’s got some company, as THR reports that J.K. Simmons and Chris Elliott have joined Hugh Grant, Marisa Tomei, Bella Heathcote and Allison Janney in the currently untitled comedy.

The film is about Ray Michaels (Grant), who in 1998 was on top of the world – a witty, sexy, Englishman in Hollywood who had just won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Fifteen years later, he’s creatively washed up, divorced, and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favours of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance with a single mom (Tomei) who’s gone back to school.

Simmons will portray Dr. Lerner, Chairman of the University’s English department, a family man who takes Michaels under his wing. Elliott meanwhile will portray Jim, a Shakespeare professor and next-door neighbour to Michaels, in search of that certain someone.

The film will begin shooting in New York in April.

Marisa Tomei May Join Hugh Grant In A New Rom Com

A few weeks ago it was revealed that Hugh Grant and Marc Lawrence have agreed to team up for a fourth time (Lawrence has never directed a movie that doesn’t feature Grant) for a new rom com. Now it appears Hugh has got some company, with The Wrap reporting that Marisa Tomei is in talks to join the film.

With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favours of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance with a single mom who’s gone back to school. It’s believed Tomei is up for the role of the mom.

The film is set to shoot in New York in April 2013.

Hugh Grant & Marc Lawrence Reteam For New Rom-Com

Producer Martin Shafer has announced that Hugh Grant is set to star in writer/director Marc Lawrence’s new untitled romantic comedy, which is set to shoot in New York in April 2013.

Lawrence and Grant have a longstanding relationship, as this will be the fourth collaboration between the duo, after Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, and Did You Hear About the Morgans? Indeed Lawrence has never directed a movie that didn’t have Grant in it (although he did write the likes of Miss Congeniality).

Seven Great Cloud Atlas Character Banners Emerge

Cloud Atlas is certainly one of the most interesting movies coming in the next few months, and with good (if not ecstatic) buzz coming from festival screenings, it should be certainly worth a look. Now seven character banners have been released, which are certainly very eye-catching.

The movie, based on David Mitchell’s novel spans hundreds of years, showing how individual lives affect others in the past, present, and future through a series of stories. The actors, including Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent and Tom Hanks play different people in each story, jumping between different races and genders. It’s currently set for UK release of February 22nd, 2013.

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists (Blu-ray)

Aardman Animation is one of the most reliable animation houses outside Emeryville (the headquarters of Pixar). From the early days of Morph through the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit onto films like Chicken Run and Flushed Away, you can always be fairly sure of fun when the company is involved. Unfortunately that hasn’t always translated into big box office, which resulted in their deal with Dreamworks Animation ending early. Luckily though Sony was looking for ways to expand their animation output and so they stepped up for The Pirates! (and last year’s Arthur Christmas).

Peter Lord co-founded Aardman with David Sproxton back in the 1970s, but this is the first film he’s directed since he co-helmed Chicken Run with Nick Park back in 2000. Thankfully he hasn’t lost his touch, as The Pirates! is great fun, full of Aardman’s trademark attention to detail and visual jokes, along with a playful sense of humour and a plot that never takes itself too seriously, but still manages to create memorable characters. New Cloud Atlas Trailer – Fresh look at the Wachowskis and Tom Twyker’s ambitious movie

It’s still difficult to know if Cloud Atlas is going to fulfil its towering ambition, but the more we see the more of a must-see it’s becominh. A few weeks ago a six-minute trailer introduced us to the movie’s six interconnected stories, featuring the same actors playing different characters in various time periods. Now a new, more traditional trailer has shown up, which trades on the visuals and scope of the movie and makes it look pretty impressive. The movie, based on David Mitchell’s novel spans hundreds of years, showing how individual lives affect others in the past, present, and future through a series of stories. The actors, including Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent and Tom Hanks play different people in each story, jumping between different races and genders. It’s currently set for UK release of March 22nd, 2013.

Cloud Atlas Extended Trailer – Will the ambitious multi-story epic work?

We just posted some of the first images from the Wachowskis’ and Tom Twyker’s ambitious Cloud Atlas, and now Den Of Geek has tipped us off to an extended trailer for the fascinating looking movie, which you can watch right here. The movie, based on David Mitchell’s novel spans hundreds of years, showing how individual lives affect others in the past, present, and future through a series of stories. The actors, including Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent and Tom Hanks play different people in each story, jumping between different races and genders. The trailer suggests it could be very good, although it does depend on how the different stories are knitted together. Cloud Atlas should hit cinemas later this year.
