New King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

January 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Back during Comic Con we got the first trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and while it didn’t look as bad as some of the rumours said it might, it did look like it might be a bit silly and cheesy. However, a new promo has arrived which is much more intriguing, upping the fantasy elements and suggesting that Guy Ritchie’s attempt to do to King Arthur what he did to Sherlock Holmes – mixing modern sentiment and action with historical tales – might actually work quite well.

Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana star in the movie, which will follow the King in ‘an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.”

The movie is set for release in May. The movie was originally set to be the start of a whole Knights Of The Roundtable franchise, with each movie focussing on a different knight. At the moment that’s been put on the backburner, but expect it to be resurrected is Legend Of The Sword is a success. If you didn’t catch the poster that was released a couple of days ago, click here. [Read more…]

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Comic-Con Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

July 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

king-arthur-legends-of-the-sword-poster-slideGuy Ritchie seems to be doing to King Arthur what he did to Sherlock Holmes – mixing modern sentiment and action with historical tales, for something that’s not quite like anything you’d expect. A Comic-Con trailer has been released that gives us our best look so far.

Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana star in the movie. It’s set for release next March (following a bit of a delay, as it was originally coming this summer).

Take a look at the pretty cool trailer below. Hunnam might actually make a better King Arthur than many originally thought her would. [Read more…]

New Look At Charlie Hunnam & Jude Law In King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

July 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

king-arthur-1When it was first announced, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur was supposed to be the start of a massive interconnected franchise based around the Knights Of The Round Table. However, it looks like they’re hedging their after moving it all around the release schedule and then changing the name to King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword.

That doesn’t mean it’ll be a disaster but does suggest they perhaps don’t have as much faith in it as they once did – especially as we’ve heard fairly little about it in the last year. However, now a couple of new images have been released via EW.

They show a bruised and battered looking Arthur (Charlie Hunnam), who tells EW of his character, ‘He’s a bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. There’s definitely a harder edge than people would imagine.’

There’s also a show of Jude Law as the villainous Vortigern, which you can see below. The movie is currently due out next March.

Genius Trailer – Colin Firth plays the man who helped discover Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald & Thomas Wolfe

March 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

geniusGenius has been in the works for a long time – Colin Firth first attached himself to it back in 2012 – but it’s only now that it’s in the can and the first trailer for the movie has arrived. While a movie about a book editor doesn’t sound that interesting, as it’s about a man who helped the likes of Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald get published, it’s certainly got potential.

The film doesn’t concentrate on either of those authors though, instead focusing on the birth of Thomas Wolfe as a literary force.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Academy Award-nominated screenwriter JOHN LOGAN (Gladiator, The Aviator, Hugo, Skyfall) and acclaimed, Tony Award-winning director MICHAEL GRANDAGE in his feature film debut, comes Genius, a stirring drama about the complex friendship and transformative professional relationship between the world-renowned book editor Maxwell Perkins (who discovered F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway) and the larger-than-life literary giant Thomas Wolfe. Based on the biography “Max Perkins: Editor of Genius” by A. SCOTT BERG, Genius stars COLIN FIRTH as Perkins, JUDE LAW as Wolfe, NICOLE KIDMAN as Aline Bernstein, a costume designer sharing a tumultuous relationship with Wolfe, LAURA LINNEY as Louise Perkins, Max’s wife and a talented playwright, GUY PEARCE as F. Scott Fitzgerald and DOMINIC WEST as Ernest Hemingway.’

The film will be out later this year. [Read more…]

Wilde (Blu-ray Review)

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Stephen Fry, Jude Law, Tom Wilkinson, Michael Sheen, Jennifer Ehle
Director: Brian Gilbert
Running Time: 118 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 14th 2015 (UK)

I’m almost surprised 1997’s Wilde hasn’t made it to Blu-ray in the UK before, but it’s now arrived, giving us an HD look at the biopic of legendary writer and wit Oscar Wilde, as played by Stephen Fry. At the beginning of the movie Oscar is already well-known and meets the pretty young Constance (Jennifer Ehle), whom he marries.

However, there is another side of him, initially brought out by Robbie Ross (Michael Sheen), that seeks the emotional and physical intimacy of men. Oscar begins to see it rather like the Greek ideal, where he is the older man, passing down knowledge to his ‘boys’, as well as sleeping with them. Then he meets the beautiful Lord Alfred Douglas (Jude Law), known as Bosie – and if you’ve ever seen pics of the real Bosie, he was very good looking – and the two fall for one another. [Read more…]

New Spy Trailer – Don’t mess with secret agent Melissa McCarthy

March 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Spy-Gold-PosterSpy got great notices when it premiered at SXSW, suggesting this will be another big success for Melissa McCarthy following Bridesmaids and The Heat. Now a new trailer and golden poster have arrived for the movie, give the whole thing a bit of a Bond feel.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid and another top agent (Jason Statham) is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster.’

It’ll be in UK cinemas on June 5th, but before then take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Spy Trailer – Melissa McCarthy turns secret agent for Paul Feig

January 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Spy-posterI’ve been keen to take a look at Spy even since it was announced (although back then it was known as Susan Cooper), as initial reports had compared it to Casino Royale, but then it was revealed it was a comedy with Melissa McCarthy set to star.

However the first trailers – there’s a green band and a red band version below – suggest a comedic Casino Royale may not be too far off the mark.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Susan Cooper is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner falls off the grid and another top agent is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster.’

The great cast also includes Jude Law, Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Allison Janney, Miranda Hart, 50 Cent and Bobby Cannavale.

The film’s due out May 22nd in the US and June 5th in the UK. Take a look at the trailers below. [Read more…]

Jude Law Will Be Knights Of The Round Table’s Villain Opposite Charlie Hunnam’s Arthur

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jude-lawIt appears there’s going to be a bit of a Sherlock Holmes reunion, as Variety reports that Jude Law is likely to reunite with director Guy Ritchie for Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur. However he won’t be on the good guy side this time, as he’s apparently up to play the villain.

There’s no news on exactly who Law will play. The hope is that this will be the first part of a six-film series, so Law could be in line to play a baddie just in this movie, or a threat that will be present throughout the franchise. If he’s the latter he will presumably be the traitor Mordred.

Charlie Hunnam is set to play Arthur, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere. Sadly while Idris Elba was previously attached to play Arthur’s mentor, he’s apparently no longer involved.

The plan is to shoot early next year, with a July 22nd, 2016 release planned.

Black Sea Trailer – Jude Law teams up with director Kevin MacDonald on a submarine

October 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

black-sea-posterTwo-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law captains the cast of Black Sea, the suspenseful adventure thriller directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland).

Black Sea centres on a rogue submarine captain (Jude Law) who, after being laid off from a salvage company, pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumoured to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. As greed and desperation take control on board their claustrophobic vessel, the increasing uncertainty of the mission causes the men to turn on each other to fight for their own survival.

The cast also includes Scoot McNairy (Argo), British Independent Film Award winner Ben Mendelsohn (Starred Up), David Threlfall (Shameless), Konstantin Khabenskiy (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), Sergey Puskepalis (How I Ended This Summer), British Independent Film Award winner Michael Smiley (Kill List), and Grigory Dobrygin (A Most Wanted Man).

The film is due out in the UK on 5th December 2014. [Read more…]

The Grand Budapest Hotel (Blu-ray Review)

July 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F. Murray Abraham, Jude Law, Adrien Brody
Director: Wes Anderson
Running Time: 95 min
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 7th 2014 (UK)

I should probably start off by saying I’m generally not a great fan of director Wes Anderson. I’ve found most of his films far too pleased with themselves and so obsessed with their own quirkiness that it actually got in the way of the film rather than enhancing it.

That said, The Grand Budapest Hotel is the first Anderson movie I’ve enjoyed from end to end since the director’s debut, Bottle Rocket. Previously Anderson’s idiosyncratic style has leaned towards farce while pretending it was something else. With his last film, Moonrise Kingdom he went full farce for large chunks of the film, and they were undoubtedly the best bits. [Read more…]
