Gary Oldman Joining Tom Hardy & Noomi Rapace In Child 44

March 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gary-oldmanTom Hardy and Gary Oldman must like working together, as they’re set to team up for the fourth time in two years for Child 44, according to THR. Oldman joins Hardy, Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman in the movie, which Daniel Espinosa is set to direct.

Child 44 is set in 1950s Russia, with Hardy as a Soviet military police officer who becomes the target of his suspicious government while he’s investigating a string of child murders. Joel Kinnaman will play the killer responsible for these brutal deaths, while Noomi Rapace is Hardy’s wife. Oldman meanwhile is the head of police who becomes suspicious of Hardy’s character and starts investigating him.

Oldman and Hardy previously starred together in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Lawless and The Dark Knight Rises, although they didn’t actually get much screentime together in any of those movies. Perhaps Child 44 will remedy that.

Tom Hardy Is Going To Samarkand In A New Indie Drama

February 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy in WarriorTom Hardy has been busy filling his development roster in the last few months, and now he’s got another one, as Variety reports that he’s signed up to star in the new indie drama Samarkand.

The movie is about a British SAS soldier (Tom Hardy) who returns home from a Middle East conflict. He struggles to re-acclimatise himself to civilian life, while suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. It certainly sounds like a difficult role, showing off Hardy’s acting skills.

Greg Williams and Olly Williams wrote the screenplay, which marks their first feature project. Tom Hardy also starred in Greg Williams’ short film, Sergeant Slaughter My Big Brother, which won multiple awards for Best Director. It’s Greg who will be directing this movie, too.

The title Samarkand refers to the Uzbekistan city that is considered one of the oldest in the world.

Tom Hardy & Noomi Rapace Team Up For Child 44

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy in WarriorTom Hardy and Noomi Rapace certainly seem keen to work together, as a couple of months ago they both signed up to star in Animal Rescue, and now Variety reports the duo are also teaming up for Child 44.

News of the movie first emerged back in 2007 when Ridley Scott was attached to direct. Scott will no longer helm the movie, but is is still planning to produce. Instead Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) will take the director’s chair from a screenplay by Richard Price, adapted from the Tom Rob Smith novel.

The movie is set in 1950s Russia and centres on a former Soviet Police member who investigates a series of child murders but finds himself being targeted by his own government. Tom Hardy will play the Soviet officer, with Noomi Rapace as his wife, who pretends to be the loving partner, but is really concealing her true feelings.

Hardy and Rapace are going to be spending a lot of time together, as the Dennis Lehane adaptation Animal Rescue starts shooting in March, with Child 44 hoping to begin production in Budapest this May.

Lawless (Blu-ray)

January 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, Shia Labeouf, Tom Hardy
Director: John Hillcoat
Running Time: 116 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: January 14th 2012

When it was released in cinemas last September, there were rumblings that Lawless would be in the running for the Oscars. It rather lost momentum over the last few months and ended up with no nominations at all. It’s a shame as while it’s not a masterpiece, Tom Hardy deserved a nod in one of the acting categories and the cinematography should also have been acknowledged. Indeed, I’d have included it in the Best Picture category ahead of Amour and Silver Linings Playbook. [Read more…]

December 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mad-max-2012-preview-pic1
Yesterday a scanned, autographed image of Tom Hardy popped up online, which had many people asking whether this was the first pic from Mad Max. Warner Bros. has now confirmed that it is indeed from the movie, and is something Hardy signed for the cast and crew.

Hardy is taking over the role of Mad Max Rockatansky from Mel Gibson. The long-delayed movie, Mad Max: Fury Road, has been shooting in South Africa and should be arriving in cinemas sometime in 2013. There’s been no info on the exact plot of the film, which is believed to be a continuation rather than complete reboot of the character.

Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Charlize Theron, Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also star, with original Mad Max director George Miller at the helm.

December 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Noomi-RapaceLast month it was revealed that Fox Searchlight was going after Tom Hardy for their adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s short story, Animal Rescue. Now Deadline reports that the actor is in final talks to star in the movie, and that the female lead has been offered Noomi Rapace – although it isn’t known how close she is to starring.

Lehane has also written the movie’s script, which is about a bartender who rescues a pit bull from a garbage can, and as a result gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy at the Mafia-controlled bar where he works. At the moment, it’s not clear who Rapace will play.

While the original story is set in Boston, the adaptation will take place in New York City, which is where director Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) plans to start directing the movie next March.

Running Time: 164 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 3rd 2012

The Dark Knight Rises had a lot to live up to after the superb second instalment in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. While it may not be quite as good as The Dark Knight, the film is a fitting conclusion to the series, tying up the thematic ends and ramping up the spectacle and excitement.

However when a mysterious figure known as Bane (Tom Hardy) arrives in Gotham with plans aimed at destroying Bruce and potentially destroying the city, there’s no choice but to bring the Bat out of retirement.
