Zach Galifianakis Could Lead Confederacy Of Dunces

May 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Almost since it was published in 1980, Hollywood has been sniffing around John Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy Of Dunces for a film adaptation, but it’s never happened. Now Paramount say they’re moving forward with Dunces, with Vulture reporting that Zach Galifianakis is in talks to star, and Muppets helmer Jame Bobin may direct.

Cedar Rapids’ writer Phil Johnston is attached to write the script for this latest version of the script, The book is set in the early 60s in New Orleans, where a lazy, overweight, strangely dressed modern Don Quixote is forced to move out of his mother’s house and find his place in the world.

A film version came closest to reality in 2005 when Ferrell was attached to play the lead and David Gordon Green was going to direct. Steven Soderbergh and Scott Kramer were writing the script and Lily Tomlin was on-board to play Ignatius’ mother. Whether it really happens this time is still uncertain, but they’re certainly trying.

May 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week some fun political ads arrived from The Campaign, and now a full trailer is here. In the film, when long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naive Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about. The film is released this September.

Owen Wilson & Zach Galifianakis Say You Are Here

March 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew Weiner, creator of Mad Men and writer/executive producer of The Sopranos, is heading to the movies, as he’s set to write and direct You Are Here, a decade old passion project he’s finally go to get on to camera. According to THR, the movie will star Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis, with Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) in talks to co-star.

In the movie local weatherman and freewheeling bachelor Steve Dallas (Wilson) and bi-polar man-child Ben (Galifianakis) are childhood best friends who embark on a road trip home after Ben discovers that his estranged father has passed away. Once there, Ben is shocked to learn that his eccentric father had big plans for him and he’s inherited a whole lot more than his father’s money. As Ben struggles with his new responsibilities, his friendship with Steve is tested by the complications of his inheritance, his sister Terry’s (Poehler) ambition, and Steve’s desire to be with his father’s beautiful young widow Angela.

“This movie has been my passion for eight years and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true,” said Weiner. “I can’t wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about and I’m tired of reading it out loud to my friends.” The film will start production in May 2012 in North Carolina.

Hangover Part III Set For May 2013

March 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We knew it was almost certainly coming (Warner put it into development before Part II came out), but now The Hangover Part III has been officially announced and a release date set for May 14th, 2013, which is Memorial Day weekend in the US.

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will reprise their roles as Phil, Stu and Alan, aka ‘the Wolfpack’. Director Todd Phillips commented, “I’m so excited to embark on another Hangover film with Bradley, Ed and Zach. We’re going to surprise a lot of people with the final chapter we have planned. It will be a fitting conclusion to our three-part opera of mayhem, despair and bad decisions.”

Phillips is therefore promising this will be the last, although if its even half the success of the previous movie, it’s likely Warner will want to find some way of continuing. Todd is writing the screenplay with Craig Mazin, who also collaborated with him on the screenplay for The Hangover Part II. Production on the film is projected to begin in September 2012.

Puss In Boots (DVD)

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton
Director: Chris Miller
Running Time: 87 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: March 26th, 2012

You have to wonder whether the fact the Shrek franchise is Dreamworks Animation’s goose that laid the golden egg was going through the minds of the powers that be when they were coming up with the story for Puss In Boots. While we were promised Shrek Forever After would be the last movie about the green ogre, it’s little surprise the studio wanted to carry on with a spin-off, and Puss In Boots is certainly a good character to do it with, allowing for a film that feels familiar but is different enough not to seem as if it’s merely rehashing the Shrek movies.

Set before Puss met his ogrish pals, the film sees the well-shod feline as an outlaw who discovers the dastardly Jack & Jill have the magic beans he’s been looking for most of his life. When he tries to steal them, he’s interrupted by another cat who on the outside of the law, Kitty Softpaws, who turns out to be allied to Puss’ old pal Humpty Dumpty. However Puss and Humpty have long been estranged, as despite growing up together in an orphanage, Puss blames Humpty for making him an outlaw when he got him involved in a robbery he knew nothing about. Wolf Pack Closing In On The Hangover Part III

January 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the two Hangover movies grossing over $1 billion worldwide, it’s not suprising Warner Bros. wants more, but they’re going to have to dig deeper into their pockets to ensure The Hangover Part III happens. Now THR reveals stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms are asking for $15 million apiece to reprise their roles in The Hangover Part III.

It is believed that the deals are being finalised, which includes a back end percentage on top of the $15 million, and the actors will likely get what they requested. Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms made a little under $1 million each for The Hangover. They got a decent pay bump to $5 million for The Hangover Part II, but with bonuses based on the film’s performance, each of the actors ended up making in the mid-teens from the movie. For a third they want $15 million up front, which ensures they’ll do very well even if the film’s a flop.

Back in December, Bradley Cooper revealed that The Hangover Part III will likely start shooting in September, although it seems the studio wants to get started earlier then that. Insiders claim Warner Bros. wants to go into production this summer, so the comedy sequel can hit a Memorial Day 2013 release. Little is known about the story, but it is said to be centered around The Wolf Pack’s home city of Los Angeles.

Dan Aykroyd Up For A Dog Fight

December 27, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are getting into politics, in their new movie at least, and now they’ve got some extra help as Moviehole reports that Dan Aykroyd has joined the cast of Dog Fight.

The comedy centres on two political rivals (Ferrell and Galifianakis), who are both vying for the same Congressional seat in a small South Carolina district. It isn’t known what character Dan Aykroyd will play, but he joins a cast which also includes Jason Sudeikis, Brian Cox, Dylan McDermott, and John Lithgow.

Jay Roach is directing Dog Fight from a screenplay by Shawn Harwell and Chris Henchy. Production is currently under way in New Orleans.

Puss In Boots (Cinema)

December 9, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton
Director: Chris Miller
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: December 9th, 2011

Shrek spin-off Puss In Boots has already had quite a lot of good reviews in the US, but it’s just the latest attempt by the liberal left in Hollywood to indoctrinate kids. Everyone knows that the natural state of cats is not to be in boots, but Dreamworks Animation and its media colleagues keep presenting this perversion of nature to us as if it’s something we should treat as normal. Not content with using the Shrek movies to warp young minds into thinking that cats in footwear are the equal of regular unshod felines, now they’re giving Puss In Boots a whole movie to himself!

It’s just plain wrong. It’s bound to cause children to start asking awkward questions about why Puss is wearing boots. It should be a parent’s decision how and when to broach such thorny subjects, not forced upon them by the all-powerful pro-shoes-for-cats agenda. Indeed it’s gotten to the point where right thinking people are afraid to stand up for what’s right and openly say Puss shouldn’t wear boots! [Read more…]
