Eddie The Eagle Trailer – Taron Egerton & Hugh Jackman take on ski jumping

December 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eddie-the-eagle-trailer-slideIf you’re British and can remember all the way back to the 80s, you’ll know who Eddie The Eagle is – a man who had a dream and made it real, even if he never had a chance of winning. Now his story has been made into a movie, with Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Eddie and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) as coach Bronson Peary.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Eddie the Eagle follows the realisation of the childhood dream of Michael Edwards (a.k.a Eddie), and his unflinching determination to become Great Britain’s first Olympic ski-jumper. Reluctantly aided by former ski-jumper Bronson Peary as his coach, Eddie is unwavering in his quest to reach the 1988 Calgary Winter Games. Eddie the Eagle is an uplifting, inspirational story that celebrates human spirit, passion, and one man’s refusal to accept defeat.’

Dexter Fletcher directs the film, with Matthew Vaughn producing. It’ll be in UK cinemas next April.

Ice Age: Collision Course Trailer – Nut-obsessed Scrat goes into space

December 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ice-age-collision-course-trailer-slideThe Ice Age movies long ago decided that anachronisms were the future, giving us sabre-tooth cats living alongside dinosaurs, being around when th continents split apart and now, sending rodent Scrat into space. Yep, if you take a look at the trailer below, you’ll see that like Jason Vorhees before him, Scrat is becoming an unexpected astronaut.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World.  To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, travelling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colourful new characters.

Star Trek Beyond Trailer – Chris Pine & co. return & are finally boldy going to strange new worlds

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-trek-beyond-trailer-slide1Although the first two rebooted Star Trek movies were a lot of fun, one thing they lacked was boldly going to explore strange new worlds and new civilisations. However, with Star Trek Beyond it’s been suggest the Enterprise will finally be embarking on their five year mission.

However, while JJ Abrams may not be directing (he is producing though), it appears they’re sticking with the secrecy that surrounded the earlier movie but telling us nothing about the plot and producing a first trailer which is pretty cool, but doesn’t tell us much about the plot.

You won’t be surprised to hear though that aliens are involved, one of them played by Idris Elba.

It also appears that new director Justin Lin is bringing a nicely retro feel, with the whole thing being oddly reminiscent of the 60s TV show, which makes sense if its taking place at the same time, even if it’s an alternate timeline. Of course it’s all a lot more high tech, but it’s still got a nice throwback feeling. You can take a look at the trailer below, and look forward to the film arriving in cinemas next July.

High Rise Teaser Trailer – Tom Hiddleston wants you to join him in a new way of living

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

high-rise-tom-hiddleston-slideThere’s been a lot of interest in Ben Wheatley’s take on JG Ballard’s dystopian tale High Rise, to the point that for some film fans, it’s the most anticipated movie of 2016. Now we can get our first taste, and there’s no doubt that it’s looking absolutely gorgeous, with Wheatley creating a mix of the 60s/70s and the future.

Many have said over the year that Ballard’s book is unfilmable, but it looks like they’re given it a damn good go, even if the reviews from film festivals have been decidedly mixed.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘High-Rise centers on a new residential tower built on the eve of Thatcher’s England, at the site of what will soon become the world’s financial hub. Designed as a luxurious solution to the problems of the city, it is a world apart.

‘Enter Robert Laing (Hiddleston), a young doctor seduced by the high-rise and its creator, the visionary architect Anthony Royal (Irons). Laing discovers a world of complex loyalties, and also strikes up a relationship with Royal’s devoted aide Charlotte (Miller).

‘But rot has set in beneath the flawless surface. Sensing discord amongst the tenants, Laing meets Wilder, a charismatic provocateur bent on inciting the situation. Wilder initiates Laing into the hidden life of the high-rise and Laing is shocked at what he sees.

‘As the residents break into tribal factions, Laing finds himself in the middle of mounting violence. Violence that he also finds emerging in himself’.

The movie hits UK cinemas next March.

Kubo & The Two Strings Trailer – Laika offers up some stop-motion fantasy

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kubo-and-the-two-strings-teaser-poster-slideLaika has garnered a great reputation thanks to the likes of Coraline, Boxtrolls and ParaNorman. They’re sticking with stop-motion for their next movie, Kubo & The Two Strings, which has just launched its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kubo and the Two Strings is an epic action-adventure set in a fantastical Japan from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA.  Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Hashi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and Kamekichi (Academy Award nominee Brenda Vaccaro).  But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta.

‘Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known.  With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara)  to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family and fulfill his heroic destiny.’

Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer – Mankind is under attack once more

December 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

independence-day-resugence-slide1Having talked about it ever the first Independence Day became a gargantuan hit in 1996, we are finally getting a sequel, Resurgence, which has just released its first trailer. Many of the old face return, including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner, along with a new generation, led by Jessie Usher and Liam Hemsworth.

Will Smith isn’t returning, but the aliens sure are, and this promo certainly wants to be a bit dark and moody, although right at the end suggests it will retain the humour that helped make the first one a hit. They’re also certainly keen to suggest that things are getting bigger.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.’

Take a look below.

X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer – James McAvoy and co. go up against what may be the ultimate mutant

December 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-apocalypse-trailer-slideAfter the huge success of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the mutant are returning with X-Men: Apocalypse, which may not have the actors from the original trilogy, but brings back the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, alongside plenty of newbies, many of them playing younger versions of characters we’ve seen before.

And with Days Of Future Past resetting the timeline, it also allows for reinvented versions of characters.

Here’s the synopsis:’Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.’

Bryan Singer directs once more more, with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Lucas Till, Josh Helman, Lana Condor and Ben Hardy starring.

It’ll be in cinemas next May.

The Legend of Tarzan Trailer – Him Alexander Skarsgard, her Margot Robbie

December 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tarzan-poster1-slideThe tales of Tarzan certainly looks like it’s gotten dramatic and moody if this first trailer for the big budget live-action take on Edgar Rice Burrough’s character is anything to go by. It also looks like the special effects wizards have got their work cut out for them, as there’s plenty of spectacle to behold (including Alexander Skargard’s abs).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, John Hurt and Djimon Hounsou, and directed by David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & Part 2), TARZAN will be released in cinemas on 8th July 2016.

‘It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side.  Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz).  But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.’

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Trailer – Turtle power with added Stephen Amell

December 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-trailer-slideThe live-action do-over of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proved much more successful at the box office than most people expected grossing just under $500 million at the worldwide box office. That ensured Paramount would want a sequel, which will will hit cinemas next summer.

This time around the turtles and Megan Fox’s April O’Neil are going to be joined by Arrow’s Stephen Amell as hockey-mask wearing vigilante Casey Jones. He makes his first appearance in the trailer, which you can take a look at below.

The initial trailer for the first movie was widely derided and made many think the entire thing was a bad idea that should never have been attempted, but this time around the first promo is actually quite fun. Dave Green directs, with a June 2016 release date set.
