Men, Women & Children Teaser Trailer – Ansel Elgort, Adam Sandler & Emma Thompson star in Jason Reitman’s film

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

men-woman-and-children-trailer-slideJason Reitman’s last film, Labor Day, slipped by without too much notice, but the Juno and Up In The Air director he’ll be hoping for a better reception for ensemble film, Men, Women & Children.

Now we can take our first look with a teaser trailer.

Based on the novel by Chad Kultgen and out later this year, the cast includes Ansel Elgort (Fault In Our Stars), Adam Sandler (Grown Ups 1 & 2), Emma Thompson (Saving Mr Banks), Judy Greer (Archer), Jennifer Garner (Dallas Buyers Club), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) and J.K. Simmons (Labor Day, Juno).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN” follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.’ [Read more…]

Kevin Smith & Johnny Depp (+ Their Daughters) Teaming For Yoga Hosers

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnny-deppIt’s believed Johnny Depp took a very small role in Kevin Smith’s upcoming Tusk as a favour to Kevin Smith. Now it looks like they’re planning a bigger collaboration as THR reports they’re teaming for an comic book style action-adventure called Yoga Hosers (yep, Smith’s retirement is being pushed back once again).

It’ll be a bit of a family affair as Lily-Rose Depp and Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith will star, as will most of the Tusk cast including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach and Harley Morenstein.

To round things off Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes are also onboard.

The film ‘centers on 15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith) who have an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives’.

The film is the second part of Smith’s True North Trilogy, which are based around Canadian myths and legends. While each of the movies tells a separate story they will be loosely linked together (the lead characters in Yoga Hosers will briefly appear in Tusk).

Smith comments, “People always ask me ‘Are you ever going to make a comic book movie? This is it – but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two fifteen year old girls.”

Daniel Radcliffe Turns Sexy Bad Boy In A Horns Character Poster

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Horns-Character-Poster1If we needed more proof that Daniel Radcliffe has left goody-two-shoes Harry Potter behind we just need to look at him being mean, moody and extremely horny in the new Horns character poster above. Especially when you compare him to Juno Temple’s angelic look below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From master-of-horror Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) comes this supernatural, offbeat thriller starring beloved British actor Danielle Radcliffe (Harry Potter, Kill Your Darlings) and the talented Juno Temple (Magic Magic, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For).

‘Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe) is accused for the violent rape and killing of his girlfriend, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple). After a hard night of drinking, Ig awakens, hungover, to find horns growing out of his head; they have the ability to drive people to confess sins and give in to selfish impulses. Ig decides to use this effective tool to discover the circumstances of his girlfriend’s death and to seek revenge by finding the true murderer.

‘Daniel and Juno lead an all-star cast with strong support from David Morse (The Green Mile, The Hurt Locker) and Heather Graham (The Hangover I&II, Boogie Nights).’

It’s due in UK cinemas on October 31st.

First Poster For Stephen Daldry’s Trash Debuts

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

TRASH-One-Sheet-posterWhile it’s Rio setting might make you think it would have made sense to release Trash to coincide with this year’s soccer World Cup, it appears they have award hopes for Stephen Daldry’s new movie, which looks like it’s hoping to be this year’s Slumdog Millionaire.

Seeing as Daldry has a Best Director Oscar nomination for three of the four movies he’s made – Billy Elliot, The Reader and The Hours, only missing out on a nom for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close – you can understand why they might think it could be an awards contender. The fact it has a script by Richard Curtis doesn’t hurt either.

Now the first poster for the film has arrived, which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When two trash-picking boys from Rio’s slums find a wallet in amongst the daily detritus of their local dump, little do they imagine that their lives are about to change forever. But when the local police show up, offering a handsome reward for the wallet’s return, the boys, Rafael (RICKSON TEVEZ) and Gardo (LUIS EDUARDO), realise that what they’ve found must be important. Teaming up with their friend Rato (GABRIEL WEINSTEIN), the trio begins an extraordinary adventure as they try to hang onto the wallet, evade the police, and uncover the secrets it contains.

‘Along the way, the boys will have to figure out friend from foe, as they piece together the story of the wallet’s owner José angelo (WAGNER MOURA) and realise they can’t trust the police, led by the dangerous Frederico (SELTON MELLO). But a pair of American missionaries working in their favela – the disillusioned Father Julliard (MARTIN SHEEN) and his young assistant Olivia (ROONEY MARA) – might just have the power to knock on the right doors. Trash is directed by STEPHEN DALDRY and written by RICHARD CURTIS based on the book by ANDY MULLIGAN.’

Bradley Cooper Will Take On Mack Bolan With Hangover Helmer Todd Phillips

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bradley-cooperWhile there might be no plans for any more Hangover movies, it appears Bradley Cooper is hoping to reteam with that trilogy’s helmer, Todd Phillips, for an adaptation of Don Pendleton’s Mack Bolan novel series, according to Deadline.

Bolan is an expert sniper with over 90 kills to his record, which earned him the nickname ‘The Executioner’. He appeared in 37 novel, starting with 1969’s War Against the Mafia, which followed Bolan’s battle with the mob after he returns from war to discover they have destroyed his family. The character has been described as a bit of a military-based, American James Bond, who can get out of any situation no matter how dangerous.

It’s not clear whether the film will be based on War Against The Mafia or another one of the books, although it’s likely the setting for the movie will be moved to the present day rather than the Vietnam era. Avatar 4 co-writer Shane Salerno is on scripting duty.

Fault In Our Stars Director Josh Boone Takes On Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Josh-BooneJosh Boone made his name with the character-based films Stuck In Love and the recent hit Fault In Our Stars, but he’s already shown he’s keen to get stuck into genre fare by signing on to direct a movie version of Stephen King’s The Stand.

Now he’s taking on another high profile property, as just a few weeks after it was revealed Universal had snapped up the rights to all 13 of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels, TheWrap reports Boone is being lined up to helm the first of the films, in what the studio hopes will become a franchise.

While earlier reports suggested the movie would be based around Christopher Rice’s (Anne’s son) screenplay adapted from The Tale Of The Body Thief, it now seems Boone will write the script itself and it will based on Queen Of The Damned and The Vampire Lestat. While those are the second and third book in the series, it seems Universal is avoiding Interview With The Vampire, due to the fact the Neil Jordan film version is still well respected and if their film pales in comparison it could ruin any franchise hopes. It also means they can set the new film largely in the present day.

While the was a movie version of Queen Of The Damned that worked in parts of The Vampire Lestat, few people saw the film so the studio doesn’t seem to mind having another go at it. Whether Boone will also manage to retain The Vampire Chronicles homoerotic edge is also yet to be seen.

It’s believed Boone will take of his Vampire Chronicles movie after he’s completed The Stand, as casting on the Stephen King adaptation is due to kick off soon for a presumed 2016 release.

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sigourney-weaverBack in May it was revealed that Liam Neeson was going a bit Groot, as he’d signed on to play a talking tree in A Monster Calls, with Felicity Jones also set to star.

Now they have some company as THR reports that Sigourney Weaver has signed up for the adaptation of Patrick Ness’ award-winning children’s fantasy novel.

Ness has also written the script, which follows thirteen-year-old Conor O’Malley. However the monster/trees’ stories give him the tools to come to terms with the truths of life.

The First Pic Of Paul Rudd In Ant-Man Is Here

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Rudd in Ant-manMarvel has announced that after years in the works, Ant-man has finally started shooting, and to prove it they’ve released the first image of Paul Rudd in the movie.

Rudd is looking a little worse for wear as Scott Lang with plasters on his eyebrows and a furrowed brow as he stands in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Here’s the release that announced the start of shooting:

Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel’s “Ant-Man.” The film brings one of Marvel comics’ original founding members of The Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production also shoots on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production.

Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring it On,” “The Break-Up”) and stars Paul Rudd (“I Love You Man,” “Role Models”) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

The film also includes outstanding additional cast including Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “The Bourne Legacy”), Bobby Cannavale (“Danny Collins,” “Annie,” “HBO’s “The Long Play”), Michael Peña (“End of Watch,” “American Hustle”), Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness”), Judy Greer (“13 Going on 30,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), David Dastmalchian (“The Dark Knight,” “Prisoners”), Wood Harris (“Remember the Titans,” “The Wire”), John Slattery (“Mad Men,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 2”) and Gregg Turkington (“The Comedy,” “On Cinema”) and multi-hyphenate T.I. (“American Gangster,” “Takers”).

Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1962, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in Marvel’s “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the upcoming Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Director Peyton Reed’s creative team also includes Oscar® winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter (“Titanic,” “21”), production designer Sheppard Frankel (“Identity Thief,” “Horrible Bosses”) costume designer Sammy Sheldon Differ (“X-Men: First Class,” “Kick Ass”), visual effects supervisor Jake Morrison (Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” “The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers”), stunt coordinator Jeff Habberstad (Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) and six-time Oscar® nominee, special effects supervisor Dan Sudik (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Marvel’s The Avengers”). The editors include Dan Lebental, ACE (Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” Marvel’s “Iron Man”) and Colby Parker Jr. (“Lone Survivor,” “Hancock”).

First Look At Joaquin Phoenix & Josh Brolin In Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice

August 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Inherent-Vice-pic1There have been big gaps between most Paul Thomas Anderson movies, but there’ll only be a couple of years between The Master and Inherent Vice, which should be in cinemas at the end of the year.

Now EW has debuted the first image, which features a massively mutton-chopped Joaquin Phoenix getting a bit intense with Josh Brolin.

The movie is based on Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 novel of the same name, which follows Los Angeles private detective Doc Sportello (Phoenix) in 1969. It’s described as being, ‘Part noir, part psychedelic romp, all Thomas Pynchon- private eye Doc Sportello surfaces, occasionally, out of a marijuana haze to watch the end of an era. In this lively yarn, Thomas Pynchon, working in an unaccustomed genre that is at once exciting and accessible, provides a classic illustration of the principle that if you can remember the sixties, you weren’t there.

Katherine Waterson, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone and Martin Short also star.

Abbie Cornish & Jim Sturgess Up For Geostorm

August 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jim-SturgessBack in April Gerard Butler signed up to get his disaster movie on in Geostorm. Now the cast is growing, as THR reports that Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia are in talks to join the movie.

Butler is set to play a satellite engineer who realises the world’s climate-control satellites are malfunctioning. He has to team up with his estranged brother (Sturgess) to stop a man-made storm from destroying the Earth.

Butler head into space to fix the satellites (because satellites can cause storms, not just monitor them, right?), while his brother discovers a plot to assassinate the President of the United States (Andy Garcia), which presumably is linked to the storm. Cornish will be a Secret Service agent and Sturgess’ girlfriend, while Ed Harris will be the Secretary of State.

Independence Day producer Dean Devlin is set to direct Geostorm. He also wrote the original script, which is now being worked on by Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney. A March 25th, 2016 release date has already been set.
