Boyhood Trailer – Richard Linklater’s coming of age drama filmed over 12 years

April 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’ve been waiting a long time for Boyhood – 12 years to be precise. Director Richard Linklater has been shooting a few scenes a year of the movie over more than a decade, which has allowed him to work with the same boy from his childhood and follow him through his adolescence.

The resulting film has already premiered to much acclaim at film festivals, and now we get to take our first look with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film tracks 6 year-old Mason (Ellar Coltrane) over life’s most radically fluctuating decade, through a familiar whirl of family moves, family controversies, faltering marriages, re-marriages, new schools, first loves, lost loves, good times, scary times and a constantly unfolding mix of heartbreak and wonder. But the results are unpredictable, as one moment braids into the next, entwining into a deeply personal experience of the incidents that shape us as we grow up and the ever-changing nature of our lives.

‘As the story begins, dreamy-eyed grade-schooler Mason faces upheaval: his devoted, struggling single mom Olivia (Patricia Arquette) has decided to move him and older sister Samantha (Lorelei Linklater) to Houston – just as their long-absent father Mason Sr. (Ethan Hawke) returns from Alaska to re-enter their world. Thus begins life’s non-stop flux. Yet through a tide of parents and stepparents, girls, teachers and bosses, dangers, yearnings and creative passions, Mason emerges to head down his own road.’

The film’s due out July 11th. [Read more…]

Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum Get Their Spring Break On In A New New 22 Jump Street Poster

April 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

22-jump-street-quad-2It’s only a couple of months until 22 Jump Street arrives, which looks like it’s going to be as much fun as the first film. Now a new quad poster has arrived which suggest Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are going to be getting their Spring Break on in the film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership.

‘Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.’

22 Jump Street is due out in June.

Steven Spielberg Attached To Direct Roald Dahl’s The BFG

April 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven-SpielbergSteven Spielberg has had a busy few weeks while he’s been deciding what movies he wants to make in the future. Earlier this week he signed up to direct a currently untitled Cold War thriller, which will reunite him with Tom Hanks.

Now he’s lining up another movie, as THR reports he’s officially come onboard an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG.

The 1982 book is about a young girl who one night is snatched from her bed by a giant and taken to him faraway land. However it turns out the giant isn’t a bad guy – he’s a BFG, Big Friendly Giant – who blows dreams through children’s windows.

However the other giants are indeed bad and like nothing better than eating little kids – and they need to be stopped.

Melissa Mathison is writing the script, which bodes well considering she also wrote Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

The Cold War movie will apparently shoot first, with The BFG coming afterwards.

James Badge Dale & Ben Kingsley Will Reach For The Clouds Alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt

April 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-badge-daleBack in January is was revealed Robert Zemeckis was working on To Reach For the Clouds, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt rumoured to star. The project is now coming together fast with the hope it will shoot this summer.

THR reports that Gordon-Levitt will indeed star and now he has some company as Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, and Charlotte Le Bon are set to join the cast.

The film will be based on the memoirs of Philippe Petit, who walked on a tightrope strung between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on August 7, 1974. Zemeckis is planning to direct from a script he is co-writing with Christopher Browne.

The actual tightrope walk won’t be featured until towards the end of the movie, with the bulk of the film looking at on how Philippe Petit and a group of friends meticulously planned what was later called the ‘artistic crime of the century.’ It took six years from conception to execution. Eventually in 1974 they snuck up to the top of the towers to string a 450-foot cable from one building to the other, using a custom-made 26-foot balancing pole. The heist elements of the story are (inevitably) being compared to Ocean’s Eleven.

A documentary about the event, Man on Wire directed by James Marsh, won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2009.
