Hiccup Is Looking Heroic In A New How To Train Your Dragon 2 Poster

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

how-to-train-your-dragon-2-poster3A few days ago we got a new trailer for How To Train Your Dragon 2 and now comes the film’s main poster. Hiccup is certainly looking heroic, and more grown up than the rather uncertain young lad in the first film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set for release in June 2014, The thrilling second chapter of the epic HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON trilogy brings us back to the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years after the two have successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds.

‘When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.’

The film hits US cinemas June 13th and will be out in the UK July 4th.

Gone Girl Trailer & Poster – Did Ben Affleck kill his wife in David Fincher’s movie?

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gone Girl is certainly an intriguing prospect. With David Fincher behind the camera, a twisting, turning plot based on a bestselling box and Ben Affleck in a role that may well fit him perfectly, it could be well worth watching.

Now we get our first proper taste with a trailer and teaser poster.

Affleck plays a husband whose wife (Rosamund Pike) goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance, with the signs of a struggle making many assume he has killed her, especially when reasons emerge as to why he might have wanted her out of the way. However, as we learn more about the couple’s relationship, things become much more complex than they first appear.

Fans of the book will be interested to know how they’re going to handle telling the story in the movie version, as one of the main keys to the novel is that half of it is told in the present by the husband, with the other half being the wife’s diary’s. It’s a structure that allows it to go to unexpected places, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Fincher handles that on screen.

The film is due out autumn 2014. [Read more…]

Oculus UK Trailer – Karen Gillan & Brenton Thwaites shouldn’t look in the mirror

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Karen Gillan had a bit of a misstep in her journey from Doctor Who to film with the underwhelming Not Another Happy Ending. However this year she’s got The List, Guardians Of The Galaxy and Oculus. Now a new UK trailer for the latter has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents.

‘Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home.

‘Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…’

The film’s due out in June.

First Clip From Guardians Of The Galaxy – Everyone should know who Chris Pratt’s Star Lord is

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Everyone know Star Lord, right? Well, apparently not, and that’s as true as the general public as it is intergalactic space bad-asses with big guns. However Marvel certainly wants us to know who he is before Guardians Of The Galaxy is released, and to help with that they’ve released the first clip.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis: ‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969). James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in UK cinemas on August 1, 2014.’ [Read more…]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV Spot – Including our first look at Master Splinter

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The recent trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles managed to gain both a lot of fans and a lot of naysayers – many of whom thought the turtles themselves looked wrong. However one major character we didn’t get to see was their rat master, Splinter.

Now we can take a brief look at the character in a new TV spot.

We’ve still got a while to ait for this one though, as the Jonathan Liebesman directed movie doesn’t hit US cinemas until August, while the UK currently has to wait until October (although if the buzz for this one grows, don’t be surprised if it moves up).

Take a look at the new TV spot above.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Clip – The sentinels attack mutants old and new

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Fox has a lot riding on X-Men: Days Of Future Past. It’s the second most expensive movie they’ve ever made. And if this clip is anything to go by, they’re certainly thrown every at it.

The minute’s action comes from the opening battle, when mutants from the original film trilogy – along with a few new ones – have to do battle with the evil sentinels. It’s certainly looking good.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.’

The movie hits cinemas next month. [Read more…]

Maps To The Stars Trailer – David Cronenberg takes on a twisted Hollywood tale with Robert Pattinson & Julianne Moore

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David Cronenberg is back and this time he’s taking on Hollywood with Maps To The Stars. He’s gathered a great cast to do it, including Robert Pattinson, Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Sarah Gadon, Olivia Williams and Carrie Fisher.

Now the first trailer has arrived, which you can watch right here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Led by the loathsome yet funny and touching child-star Benjie, we witness the convoluted world of shallow, selfish celebrities and their minions, all of whom are about to be manipulated and destroyed by the young woman who literally represents the fruit of their twisted machinations, Agatha, Benjie’s tormented, apparently psychotic sister. As much as it is a sharp, comic look at a vacant and corrupt world, MAPS TO THE STARS is also a haunting ghost story.’

It should be in cinemas later this year. [Read more…]

Annie International Trailer – It’s still a hard knock life for the little orphan

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

During the development of a new version of Annie, the fact that Will Smith and Jay-Z were both involved with updating the score made them assume this would be a full-on hip hop take on the classic musical.

However the first trailers have been keen to show us it’s not going to be too far from the musical many know and love – the sun will still be coming out tomorrow and it remains a hard knock life, even if it is set in the modern day.

The plot also remains the same, with orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). She’s then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). In this version he’s running for office and initially just wants Annie so the press will se him being nice to an orphan, but he soon falls for the plucky youngster’s charms. And then Annie’s real parents are found, or are they?

Will Gluck is directing from his own screenplay, which was originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. Annie is currently set for release December 25th, 2014. [Read more…]

Helen Mirren May Join Dalton Trumbo Biopic, Opposite Bryan Cranston

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

helen-mirrenIf you’re making a movie, it’s never a bad idea to cast Helen Mirren in it. The makers of the biopic Trumbo must think the same, as Variety reports the British actress is in talks for the movie, which is based on the life of Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. Bryan Cranston is set for the title role.

Trumbo became one of the most respected and sought after screenwriters of the 1940s, earning his first Oscar nomination in 1941 for writing Kitty Foyle. However his illustrious came to an abrupt halt in 1947, when he was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) during their investigation into Communist influences in Hollywood. He refused to testify and ‘name names’, and subsequently became one of the ‘Hollywood 10’ screenwriters who were blacklisted by the studio system.

However he continued to write under pen names, winning two Oscars in the 1950s under other names for Roman Holiday and The Brave One. When he was hired to write Spartacus, Kirk Douglas insisted he be allowed to do so under his own name, which helped put an end to blacklist once and for all.

Cranston is playing Dalton Trumbo, with Helen Mirren in talks to play his wife, Cleo.

Jay Roach is set to direct from a script by John McNamara.

Brad Pitt Goes For Afghanistan War Drama The Operators

April 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brad-pitt-chanel-no-5I’m starting to think Brad Pitt wishes he was a soldier as he’s become slightly obsessed with wars. Whether it’s fighting zombies in World War Z, or battling Nazis in  Inglourious Basterds, the recently filmed Fury, or an WWII romantic thriller he recently became attached to.

Now he’s thinking about going to Afghanistan –  in movie form – as THR reports he has signed on to star in and produce The Operators, with Animal Kingdom’s David Michô set to write, produce and direct.

The film will be based on Michael Hastings’ best-selling book, which charts the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding officer of US forces in Afghanistan. Hastings was a Rolling Stone journalist who accompanied McChrystal on a trip across Europe to get additional support for the US war effort. While there he heard the General and his staff let off steam by bashing President Barack Obama’s administration for lack of leadership.

The ensuing article set off a political firestorm, leading to McChrystal’s dismissal. The book picks up after the Rolling Stone controversy was ignited, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse at US military commanders and patrol missions in Afghanistan.
