Joe Cornish To Direct Jack O’Connell Spy Thriller Section 6

March 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joe-cornishFormer comedian Joe Cornish impressed many with his directorial debut, Attack The Block. While there’s been much talk about what he might helm next (including the next Star Trek movie), he’s spent much of his time busily co-writing Tintin and Ant-Man. However now he may have found his next directing project as Cornish has been hired to direct the spy thriller Section 6, according to TheWrap.

Jack O’Connell is attached to star in the film, which is set during the first World War and follows Sir George Mansfield Cummings, the first director of the British intelligence agency MI6. Several A-list actors are interesting in playing Cumming, with Jack O’Connell set to be a promising young recruit.

Cornish will direct from a script by Aaron Berg. It’s not known when it might shoot.

The Maze Runner Trailer – Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien gets trapped in a post-apocalyptic future

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

There’s an endless parade of young adult adaptations trooping into cinemas hoping to be the new Twilight or Hunger Games. Few appear to have much chance of that, but one of the more promising is The Maze Runner, which has a pretty intriguing premise.

Now we can get a feel for the movie with the first official trailer, which looks pretty cool.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the best-selling young adult thriller, THE MAZE RUNNER is set in a post-apocalyptic world where Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) is deposited in a community of young men after his memory is erased. After learning they’re all trapped in a maze, Thomas joins forces with fellow “runners” to not only escape the maze, but solve its riddle and reveal the chilling secret of who brought them there, and why.’

Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelaria, Thomas Brodie-Sangste and Patricia Clarkson co-star. It’ll be out in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Fresh Godzilla Trailer – Aaron Johnson vs. one big city-crushing critter

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The marketing for Godzilla has traded on only showing us bit of pieces of the massive creature, with this new trailer being no exception. However we do get to see him shrouded in fog, as well as some sort of enormous flying beastie.

Of course there are also a few humans who have to deal with the legendary city-crusher, such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

‘Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).’

The film’s due in cinemas in May. [Read more…]

New Maleficent Trailer – Fresh look into the world of Angelina Jolie’s bad fairy

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney’s Maleficent is certainly a great idea, but Disney knows its still got to convince a few people about taking one of its greatest classics – Sleeping Beauty – turning its world live-action and telling things from the point of view of the earlier movie’s villain.

Following yesterday’s great be-winged banner comes a brand new trailer, which you can watch right here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

It’s due in cinemas this May. [Read more…]

Snoopy & Charlie Brown: A Peanuts Movie Trailer – The dog and his owner are going 3D on the big screen

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the US, everyone knows what Peanuts is, but in the UK it’s better known as Snoopy and/or Charlie Brown. That’s the reason why in America Charles M. Schultz’s characters are getting the big screen treatment purely as Peanuts, while over here we have the slightly more long-winded Snoopy & Charlie Brown: A Peanuts Movie.

Now the first image and teaser trailer for the movie has arrived, which comes from Blue Sky, the studio behind the likes of Ice Age, Rio, Horton Hears A Who! and Epic.

Here’s the short synopsis: ‘For the first time ever, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang we know and love from Charles Schulz’s timeless “Peanuts” comic strip will be making their big-screen debut; like they’ve never been seen before in CG-Animated Feature film in 3D.’

It’ll be out in 2015. Good grief! [Read more…]

Incredibles 2 & Cars 3 Are In Development At Pixar

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Incredibles-2004-posterPixar holds a special place in many people’s hearts and so whenever it does anything that make it seem like a company that’s eyeing the bottom line, there’s a lot of grumbling from fans. That normally happens when a sequel is announced (and everyone seems to forget how great Toy Story 2 & 3 and Monsters University were).

Now Pixar is going into major sequel mode as during a Disney Investor’s Meeting, Disney head Bob Iger quietly dropped the news that the House Of Mouse offshoot that The Incredibles 2 and a third Cars movie are in development.

It’s little surprise they want more Cars, as while Cars 2 is said by most to be Pixar’s worst film, it was very profitable and the franchise remains one of Disney’s biggest earners in terms of merchandise, which has only been helped by the expansion into the world of Planes.

The Incredibles 2 is more of a surprise, but those involved in the first film have always said they’d only do another one if the idea was great, so hopefully they’ve come up with an awesome idea to take us back into the world of the superpowered Parr family. And as the last film was in 2004, but the time the sequel arrives it may well be about the Parr kids coming of age as heroes.

Sofia Coppola To Helm A Live-Action Little Mermaid

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sofia-CoppolaAfter Lost In Translation, Sofia Coppola was offered a lot of mainstream projects, but she’s largely stayed in a fairly indie world with the likes of Somewhere and The Bling Ring. However now she’s signed up to direct a live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid for Universal and Working Title, according to Variety.

Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands), taking over from previous writer Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) and Abi Morgan (Shame). Joe Wright was previously attached to helm, but as he’s now preparing to shoot a live-action prequel to Peter Pan, he’s moved on.

The film is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale about a young mermaid who falls in love with a human and makes a dangerous bargain to be allowed live on land. It’s not known how close it’ll stick to the original take, such as the fact that in Andersen’s story, when the mermaid gets legs, every step feels like she’s walking on knives – it certainly didn’t start out as the Disney-fied version.

However this new take will be family-friendly and it’s believed Coppola signed up so she could make something her own children could watch and enjoy. Universal and Working Title are hoping to shoot the film as soon as possible, with an eye on a release date during the spring of 2016.

Cameron Diaz & Jason Segel Don’t Want You To See Their Sex Tape (Poster)

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sex-tape-poster1Later this year we’re all going to get to see Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel’s Sex Tape, and while they may be trying to cover it up in the poster above, it’s going to be in cinemas September 5th.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis (and as you’ve already guessed, it’s not just a real sex tape featuring the two stars): ‘When Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) first got together, their romantic connection was intense – but ten years and two kids later, the flame of their love needs a spark. To kick things up a notch, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session.

‘It seems like a great idea – until they discover that their most private video is no longer private. With their reputations on the line, they know they’re just one click away from being laid bare to the world… but as their race to reclaim their video leads to a night they’ll never forget, they’ll find that their video will expose even more than they bargained for.’

Out Actor B.D. Wong Is Coming Back For Jurassic World

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bd-wongThere have been a lot of people wondering if the likes of Sam Neill or Jeff Goldblum would return for Jurassic Park. It doesn’t look like either of them will, but that doesn’t mean there’ll be nobody from the earlier films in the movie, as director Colin Trevorrow has confirmed that at least one character from the very first movie will be back.

He told IGN, “I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go. But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world. This hasn’t been announced yet, but B.D. Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story.”

B.D. Wong’s Wu only appeared in the first movie, talking to Sam Neill and co. about how Ingen created the dinos and what they’d done to ensure they don’t breed or go on the rampage (not enough, as it turned out). He certainly makes sense for the new movie, which is said to take place on the original island which has bounced back from disaster to becomes a fully functioning dinosaur theme park.

Wong joins a cast that also includes Chris Pratt, Idris Elba, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Vincent D’Onofrio and Irrfan Khan.

Trevorrow also talked the characters being playedby Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. saying “He’s a classic hero in a very modern context. He’s the guy who will get you through the jungle alive – but like Malcolm, Grant and Sattler, he’s an expert in a scientific field that’s connected to our story. The character allows us to explore some new ideas about our relationship with these animals, without losing the humor and sense of adventure. He’s a great contrast for Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, who starts off very corporate, very controlled. Until the running and screaming starts. Then they need each other.”

He also says they’re going to be a little unusual in technical terms too, taking a step back from the digital world that moviemaking has become. “We’re shooting 35mm and 65mm film,” he says. “We’re also using an aspect ratio that hasn’t been seen theatrically in a very long time. The movie will be presented in 2 to 1. It’s basically a middle ground between 2.35 and 1.85. It allows us enough height to fit humans and dinosaurs into a single frame, without giving up that sense of scope. It’s very close to the ratio of the digital IMAX screens, so it will look great in large format. I think other filmmakers will want to give it a try when they see how it looks. It’s very comfortable.”

Steve Carell Has The Priority List In A New Cancer Drama

March 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steve-carellSteve Carell wants to get a little bit dramatic, as he’s got Warner Bros. to pick up the rights to David Menasche’s memoir, The Priority List: A Teacher’s Final Quest to Discover Life’s Greatest Lessons, which The Office star is set to produce and star in, according to Variety.

Menasche’s book chronicles his life as a Miami high school teacher, who was given a few months to live after being diagnosed with a deadly form of brain cancer. After several surgeries and chemo he managed to overcome the disease, but a seizure ended his teaching career in 2012.

He then took part in a cross-country journey to reconnect with former students from his teaching career, which resulted in him coming to terms with his illness and the effect it had on his life, while also learning to live fully in the present.

There’s no news on when it might shoot.
