J.K. Simmons Joins The Cast Of Terminator: Genesis

March 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jk-simmonsIf you want to improve a movie, it’s often a good idea to hire the always excellent J.K. Simmons. The people behind Terminator: Genesis obviously think the same as they’ve hired hire to co-star in the movie, according to THR.

It’s not known exactly who he will play, but there’s speculation he will be Hal Vukovich, who was played by Lance Henriksen in the original The Terminator. That’s not been confirmed, but it seems quite possible as Simmons will be a weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades.

Simmons joins a cast that also includes Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also coming back, but it’s still not known exactly who he will be – the presumption is that he’ll be a Terminator, even though he’s significantly older than he was in 1984.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a screenplay by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis. Production is scheduled to start this spring.

Guy Pearce Will Have A Black Mass With Johnny Depp

March 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guy-pearceAfter it all fell apart last year, Black Mass is back on track with Johnny Depp signed up once more for the lead role, and Joel Edgerton co-starring, with Scott Cooper set to direct. Now Variety reports another great actor has signed on, as Guy Pearce will also star.

The film is a biopic of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger (Johnny Depp), a Boston criminal who ended up becoming an FBI informant, with the help of his longtime friend and FBI agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) and his brother (Guy Pearce), who was the former President of the Massachussets State Senate. However Whitey didn’t completely turn good guy, as his tips to the feds were mainly about getting rid of his mob competition.

When Connolly tipped Bulger off that the feds were planning on double-crossing him, the criminal went into hiding for more than a decade, rising to the top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list before he was eventually caught in 2011 while hiding out in Santa Monica, California.

Bulger served as the inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s Frank Costello in The Departed and Pete Postlethwaite’s Fergus ‘Fergie’ Colm in The Town.

Filming is set to start this spring in Boston, with an October 2015 release date set.

Paramount Plans Remake Of River Phoenix & Ethan Hawke Flick Explorers

March 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Explorers-80sEven when the family sci-fi Explorers was released in 1985 a lot of critics suggested it was a film with a lot of potential, but which could have been better. It was a major flop at the cinema, but thanks to VHS became a firm favourite for many young people.

The guys over at Paramount Pictures must have fond memories and believe a new version could be a big success, as they are planning a remake, accordins to THR.

Gremlins director Joe Dante helmed the original, which followed three outcast teenage boys who bond over the creation of a homemade spaceship. Their creation ends up sending them into the far reaches of the galaxy, where they meet an adolescent alien who has been weaned on TV.

It was also a bit of a proving ground for those who would go on to later success, as it was an early role for both Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix, while Bobby Fite played the third of the best friends.

Not much is known about the direction the remake will take, although suggestions from an insider that it’s comparable to upcoming found footage time travel movie Welcome to Yesterday have people wondering if this will be a found footage flick too. There is a passable likelihood that’s what they thinking as it’s being handled by Paramount’s low-budget Insurge banner.

Helena Bonham Carter Coming Back For Alice in Wonderland 2

March 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alice-In-Wonderland-Pic2Disney’s planned sequel to Alice In Wonderland is finally coming together. Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are already set to return, with Sacha Baron Cohen also joining the team. Now another returnee has signed up as Helena Bonham Carter is coming back for Through the Looking Glass, according to Variety.

James Bobin, who’s hitting cinemas imminently with Muppets Most Wanted, will direct, with Joe Roth returning to produce. No details have been released about the plot, although like Tim Burton’s movie, it’s not likely to closely Lewis Carroll’s original story and will instead follow Alice long after her first trips to Wonderland.

The first movie grossed over a billion dollars, so it’s no surprise Disney wants a sequel, even if it has taken them quite a long time to get it off the ground. The film should shoot later this year.

Bad Johnson Trailer – Cam Gigandet’s man bits take human form!

March 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Yes we featured the poster for Bad Johnson, where we got a little excited because Cam Gigandet had a man in his pants. Now it’s time for the trailer, which suggests Bad Johnson might be a fun if rather odd movie.

The film sees Cam as a womanising guy who wishes his penis away after his incessant cheating costs him another girlfriend. However his dick ends up taking on human form (of Thune), which as you can probably guess, cause all sorts of problems.

The poster and trailer has now arrived which you can see above and below. The film is out in the US on VoD on April 1st and in cinemas May 2nd. It’s not clear when it will arrive in the UK. [Read more…]

New Captain America: The Winter Soldier Clip Lands – Chris Evans is running and jumping all over the place

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

)
It’s just a couple of weeks until we’ll be able to tell whether the buzz suggesting Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the best Marvel yet is actually true, as it’s out March 26th, 2014 in the UK and a week later in the US.

Now a clip has arrived showing Steve Rogers and his shield in action as he races through buldings (and we literally mean through them) in pursuit of the titular Winter Soldier.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

‘Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is produced by Kevin Feige, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp and Hayley Atwell, with Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.’ [Read more…]

The Amazing Spider-man 2 Clips Land – Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan & Jamie Foxx

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-poster9Sony is betting big on The Amazing Spider-man 2, and with the release coming next months, they’ve released the first clips from the movie, featuring a sniper in Times Square with Spidey and Electro, Dane Dehaan & Andrew Garfield skipping rocks, and Emma Stone hiding away with Garfield.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

‘It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.’

The movie is due in UK cinemas this April, with a May 2nd US release set.

Rooney Mara Signs Up To Play Tiger Lily In Pan

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rooney-maraWarner Bros. is moving fast to get Pan into production, hoping to steal a march on a rival Peter Pan prequel that’s in the works at Disney. The film has Joe Wright set to direct, Hugh Jackman up to play the villainous Blackbeard, and Garrett Hedlund as Hook, who starts off as a good guy before turning bad.

Now the first female name has signed on, with Variety reporting that Rooney Mara is set to play Tiger Lily in the movie. Many actresses were considered for the movie, such as Lupita Nyonog’o and Adele Exarchopoulos, before Mara was offered the part.

The original story ‘is set during World War II and follows an orphan named Peter who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland, where he discovers he’s destined to save the land from the pirate Blackbeard.’ It’s said to be very different to any Pan movie put on the screen before, with a multi-racial/international look.

The hope is that it can become a franchise on a par with Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. We’ll be able to see if it can manage that when it’s released July 17, 2015.

The search is now on to find a young person to play Peter, which will include an open casting call.

Lego Movie Sequel Gets Robot Chicken Director Chris McKay

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lego-movie-character-poster3Phil Lord and Chris Miller are continuing their run of starting off successful animated franchises, before heading off and leaving the sequels to someone else. After helming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, they left part two to Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. Now, following the massive success of The Lego Movie, it’ll be Chris McKay taking over the directing reigns for the sequel, according to Deadline.

It’s perhaps not surprising there’s been a changeover as Miller and Lord are very busy people, and Warner wants to get going on the Lego Movie follow-up as soon as humanly possible, having already set a May 26th, 2017 release date. That may seem a long way away, but it’s actually not that long in animation terms.

Jared Stern (The Internship) and Michelle Morgan (Nancy Drew) are writing the script, and Miller and Lord will still be around as producers. Chris McKay previously directed animated TV shows such as Robot Chicken, Moral Orel and Titan Maxium.

Warner is also developing a Lego Ninjago movie, but it’s still not known when we might see that.

Domhnall Gleeson, Eddie Redmayne Or Sam Riley May Be Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eddie-redmayneNow that the main characters in the planner reboot of Fantastic have been cast, attention has turned to who will be the villain. It seems like Fox wants someone from the UK or Ireland for the role of Doctor Doom, as TheWrap reports that the shortlist is down to Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Sam Riley (Maleficent) and Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans). Jack Huston has previously been mentioned, but its not known if he is still in the race.

It seems one of them will join Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch, Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as The Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell as The Thing. Whoever it is will have to sign up soon, as production is due to begin this April in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The movie is currently due out June 2015.
