Enemy Trailer – Jake Gyllenhaal gets into doppelganger thriller mode

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake Gyllenhaal had a decent success with Denis Villeneuve when they made Prisoners together, and they’ve now reteamed for Enemy, which certainly looks like it’s going to be moody and rather intense.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘ENEMY tells the story of a university lecturer named Adam (Gyllenhaal) who is nearing the end of a relationship with his girlfriend Mary (Melanie Laurent). One night, while watching a film, Adam spots a minor actor who looks just like him. Consumed by the desire to meet his double, Adam tracks down Anthony, an actor living with his pregnant wife Helen (Sarah Gadon) and engages him in a complex and dangerous struggle. The film is a haunting and provocative psychosexual thriller about duality and identity, where in the end only one man will survive.’

In the US the film will have a DirecTV premiere on February 6th, before hitting cinemas on March 14th. It’s not clear yet when it will arrive in the US. [Read more…]

A New York Winter’s Tale Trailer – Colin Farrell & Russell Crowe blend fantasy & reality

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While in the US this film will reach cinemas simply a Winter’s Tale on February 14th, for some reason in the UK it’s be A New York Winter’s Tale when it arrives here on February 21st.

Now a lengthy new trailer has arrived for the movie, which stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay.

Here’s the rather cryptic synopsis: ‘Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, “Winter’s Tale” is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. The film stars Colin Farrell (“Total Recall”), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV’s “Downton Abbey”), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), William Hurt (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”), Eva Marie Saint (“On the Waterfront”) and Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”). “Winter’s Tale” also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway’s “Once”). The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”), who also wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed novel by Mark Helprin.’ [Read more…]

The film is about ‘a young, imaginative boy living in a small town who befriends a mysterious drifter who may have the ability to communicate with the dead’.

Disney Plans Live-Action Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers Movie

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rescue-rangers1While Disney has been busy planning live-action takes on their classic animated movies, such as Maleficent and Cinderella, they now seem to have realised they’ve got a bunch of other characters they could put in the real world.

THR reports the House Of Mouse is hoping bring back their classic cartoon chipmunk duo Chip ‘n’ Dale for a live-action/CGI hybrid movie based on the TV series Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers.

Chip ‘n’ Dale first appeared in a 1943 animated short which starred Disney character Pluto. They then went on to appear in various other shorts Disney cartoons before they got their own animated series, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, in 1989. It ran for three seasons and ran for many years after that on TV.

The show saw brainy Chip and the more dippy Dale running their own detective agency while helping various animal clients. The new film will apparently be origin story of sorts, although no specific plot details were revealed.

Commercials director Robert Rugan came up with the pitch for the movie. He is now charged with writing the screenplay.

Daniel Radcliffe & Dane DeHaan May Be Up For College Republicans

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kill-your-darlings-daniel-radcliffe-dane-dehaan
Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan and director John Krokidas must have had a great time working together on Kill Your Darlings, as TheWrap reports they’re likely to be getting back together for College Republicans, which will follow US political heavyweights Karl Rove and Lee Atwater when they were at university.

Radcliffe’s people have apparently denied his involvement, although TheWrap is saying they’ve heard it from several sources. If it’s true Radcliffe would play Atwater, with DeHaan as Rove.

The project has been around for a few years, with the likes of Paul Dano and Shia LaBeouf eyeing the Karl Rove role, and Richard Linklater attached to direct. To some Karl Rove is a much revered figure while to many others he is the evil man behind the throne, who helped get George W. Bush elected and then steered his presidency, using plenty of dirty tricks against his enemies along the way. Many called him ‘Bush’s Brain’, while the President preferred to nickname him ‘Turd Blossom’.

Before Rove worked for Bush Jr., he was on the staff of both Nixon and Bush’s father’s administration, and before that he dropped out of university in order to work for the College Republican National Committee. That’s where the film comes, looking at how Rove hooked up with fellow political thinker Lee Atwater (who later worked for Reagan and Bush), and how their campaign to get Rove elected as chairman of the committee taught them a lot about dirty tricks.

The Black Listed script comes from Wes Jones

Zachary Quinto Up For Hitman Reboot Agent 47

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Zachary QuintoZachary Quinto continues to flit between the worlds of film and TV, and now it’s been revealed he’s heading back to the former, as he is role in Fox International’s Agent 47, their new attempt to bring the Hitman videogame franchise to the big screen.

Rupert Friend signed up a few weeks ago to play the title character, replacing the late Paul Walker in the role. The original plan was to start production this February, however that inevitably got delayed after Walker tragic death.

Jesse Eisenberg Is Batman Vs. Superman’s Lex Luthor, With Jeremy Irons As Alfred

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jesse-eisenbergThere’s been a lot of speculation over the last few months about who would play Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman. However now Warner Bros. has announced that Jesse Eisenberg will play Luthor in the movie, with Jeremy Irons will as Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred.

Zack Snyder commented, “Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exist, beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

He continued, “As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

There’s already been plenty of internet chatter over Eisenberg’s casting, with some suggesting he’s either too young or too nerdy to be the evil business magnate – although some feel that’s just what makes him right for the role, as in the age of the Internet, billionaires can look different from how we used to see them.

Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman/Clark Kent, with Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. Man Of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also return. The film is set to open worldwide on May 6th, 2016.

Ken Watanabe will play Rodrigues’ Japanese interpreter. It’s not known who Liam Neeson will be, although it’s possible he is Ridrigues’ mentor.

A Million Ways To Die In The West Red Band Trailer – Take your first look at Seth MacFarlane’s western comedy

January 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday we posted an octet of character posters for Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West, and now comes the red band trailer, which suggests this will be just as anarchic and rude as you’d expect from the creator of Family Guy. However it might be a lot more violent that you might have thought.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and plays the role of the cowardly sheep farmer Albert in A Million Ways to Die in the West. After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

‘Starring alongside MacFarlane are Oscar® winner Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. MacFarlane reunites many of the filmmakers behind Universal and MRC’s hit film Ted including Scott Stuber (Bluegrass Films) and Jason Clark who produce, and Wellesley Wild and Alec Sulkin who co-wrote the script.’ [Read more…]

Draft Day Super Bowl Spot – Kevin Costner turns American Football manager

January 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

During his 80s and 90s heyday, you couldn’t keep Kevin Costner away from films about sports, such as Bull Durham, Tin Cup and For The Love Of The Game. We haven’t had one for a few years but now he’s back in the sports arena with Draft Day. While it’s usually massive effect-filled movies that get Super Bowl TV ads, it certainly makes sense for Draft Day to have, even if they are believed to cost $4 million for 30 seconds this year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner) has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL.’

Ivan Reitman directs the film, which is due out in April. [Read more…]
