Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin To Direct Bourne Legacy Sequel

November 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-linUniversal Studios has had massive success with the Justin Lin directed Fast & Furious movies, and it seems that despite Lin having stepped aside from the next movie in the fast cars franchise, the studio wants to stay in business with him. Deadline reports Justin has signed on to direct the planned sequel to The Bourne Legacy.

Last August it was revealed that Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, Invictus) has been hired to write the screenplay. Jeremy Renner is expected to return as Treadstone agent Aaron Cross, although no other cast members have been confirmed at this time. There have been some suggestions Universal is once more trying to woo Matt Damon back to star alongside Renner, but at the moment this seems unlikely.

Justin Lin will also produce alongside Frank Marshall, Jeffrey M. Weiner and Ben Smith. It’s not known when it will shoot, but the project is still considered a high priority at Universal.

New Clip From The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Online – Katniss’ job is to be a distraction

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-victory-tour-poster-slide
It’s just a couple of weeks until The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits cinemas, and now we’ve got a clip of Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) telling Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) exactly what her new position in life is supposed to be.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE opens on November 22, 2013.’ [Read more…]

Winter’s Tale – Colin Farrell & Russell Crowe blend fantasy & reality

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Akiva Goldsman has an Oscar for writing A Beautiful Mind and also penned the script for the likes of The Da Vinci Code, I Am Legend and I Robot. Now he’s turned director with Winter’s Tale, which stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay.

Now the first trailer has arrived.

Here’s the rather cryptic synopsis: ‘Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, “Winter’s Tale” is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. The film stars Colin Farrell (“Total Recall”), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV’s “Downton Abbey”), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), William Hurt (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”), Eva Marie Saint (“On the Waterfront”) and Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”). “Winter’s Tale” also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway’s “Once”). The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”), who also wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed novel by Mark Helprin.’

It’ll be in cinemas next year. [Read more…]

New RoboCop Trailer – Joel Kinnaman has to deal with Robo-phobia

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The jury is still out on the remake of Robocop, as while the trailers have looked okay, there’s been little that’s suggested it will be great, while the fact it was delayed from summer 2013 to the graveyard of February 2014 is worrying. Now a new trailer has arrived, so we can get a fresh look, which suggests they’re trying to suggest it’s socially relevant as there’s talk of Robo-phobia.

We can understand the comparison, as homophobia is indeed the fear that gay people are lethal killing machines built by the authorities.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.’

We’ll be able to see whether Jose Padilha’s film is a success early next year. [Read more…]

Collider
and ShockTilYouDrop have debuted the first pics from David Cronenberg’s latest movie, Map To The Stars. The pics show off the likes of John Cusack & Julianne Moore, although the movie also stars Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams, Mia Wasikowska and Sarah Gadon.

The film follows the Weiss family, who are a Hollywood dynasty headed by father Dr. Stafford (Cusack), an analyst and life coach, mother Christina (Williams) and their son Benjie (Evan Bird), a child star she is dedicating to supporting. There’s also daughter Agatha (Wasikowska), who’s recently been released from a sanatorium where she was treated for criminal pyromania.

Julianne Moore is a patient of Dr. Weiss, an actress who is trying to get a film made about her late mother, who was a 60s star who has come back to haunt her. The movie looks at how two child stars are destroyed by the sleazier side of Hollywood. It’ll be out next year.

Ridley Scott Plans American Football Film About The Effects Of Concussion

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ridley-ScottWhile Ridley Scott already has his Moses movie Exodus to make, he’s already looking to what he wants to do after that, as Deadline reports he’s planning to make a movie about the devastating effects of concussion on American Football players, which has often been described as the dirty secret of the sport.

The plan is to ‘create a drama focusing on the debilitating effects that concussions are having on our sports heroes, and the role that league owners play in allowing it to happen. His plan is to create a morality tale on that issue, much the way that Michael Mann’s The Insider took on the tobacco industry’s complicity in covering up the addictive and cancer-causing effects of cigarette smoking.’

Scott has apparently been moved by former NFL stars Junior Seau and Dave Duerson, both of whom committed suicide after suffering the debilitating effects of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. They both ensured they left their brain intact so they could be studied in the hope of helping others. Some players have found themselves suffering incredibly early dementia, with some suggesting memory loss among players has become more common in the last couple of decades.

Star Wars: Episode VII Set For Release December 18th, 2015

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-warsWhen Star Wars: Episode VII was announced for 2015, it was suggested it would arrive during the summer. However even since JJ Abrams came on board it’s been thought that date might slip. Now we know that we will indeed have a slightly longer wait, as a confirmed release date of December 18th 2015, has been set for the movie.

Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios has revealed, “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.”

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams from a script Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan. Michael Arndt had previously been set to write, but as Abrams recently commented, “It became clear that given the time frame and given the process and the way the thing was going that working with Larry in this way was going to get us where we need to be and when we needed to be. Working with Larry Kasdan (who wrote Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi), especially on a Star Wars movie is kind of unbeatable.” Shooting is scheduled to begin Spring 2014 in the UK.
