The Monuments Men Trailer – George Clooney & Matt Damon save art in World War II

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

George Clooney is back in the director’s chair for The Monuments Men, and if this trailer is anything to go by, it looks like it’ll be vying for awards early next year. Clooney also stars alongside Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, and Hugh Bonneville.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed?  But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.’

It’s due out in the US on December 18th, while it’ll arrive in the UK on January 9th. [Read more…]

New Captain Phillips Trailer – Tom Hanks is up against Somali Pirates

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hanks is going Oscar-bait again with Captain Phillips, Paul Greengrass’ first movie since 2010’s Green Zone. Now a new trailer has been released, giving us a feel for the movie’s shaky-cam style.

The movie is based on the true story of Maresk Alabama captain Richard Phillips (Hanks), who sacrificed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates, so he could save the lives of his crew. He spent three days in captivity before being rescued by a Navy SEAL team in 2009.

The film is due out in the US in October. [Read more…]

CBGB Trailer – Alan Rickman leads a great cast in a biopic of the legendary club

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Randall Miller has pulled together a great cast for CBGB, with the likes of Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint, Malin Akerman, Ashley Greene, Kerry Bishé, Johnny Galecki, Donal Logue, Ryan Hurst, Justin Bartha and Bradley Whitford and quite a few more.

The movie is about the famed (and now sadly closed) CBGB punk rock club in New York City, following Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman), who wants to start a club for country, bluegrass and blues (the CBGB of the club’s name) but found it difficult to get acts, and so ended up allowing the likes of The Ramones and Blondie to play, helping give punk a foothold in America.

Along with Rickman, Ashley Greene plays his daughter, while Joel David Moore, Julian Acosta and Steven Schub are three of the Ramones; Malin Akerman is Debbie Harry; Mickey Sumner is Patti Smith; Rupert Grint will be Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome; and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is Iggy Pop. And that’s only a few of the actors taking on classic punk acts.

The film should be out later this year. [Read more…]

New Pics: Daniel Radcliffe In The F Word, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug & American Hustle

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

f-word-pic1A few interesting new images from some of 2013 and early 2014’s most-anticipated movies have emerged, with pics from The F Word, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug and American Hustle arriving.

The F Word stars Daniel Radcliffe as Wallace, a young man who meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan) at a party where they hit it off. The problem is, Chantry has a long-term boyfriend, and the duo must navigate through a tenuous friendship (that’s the F word), while keeping their feelings at bay. The film will premiere at TIFF (who debuted the image), with a February UK release set.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug is, of course, Peter Jackson’s continuation of the classic JRR Tolkien story. The pic shows us the return of Orlando Bloom as Legolas, along with a new character, Evangeline Lilly’s elf Tauriel.

American Hustle is David O. Russell’s movie based on the true story of Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), a con artist who, along with his lover and accomplice Sydney (Amy Adams), are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help with his ABSCAM conspiracy case in the 1970s. That ended with a US Senator and five Congressmen were convicted on corruption charges. It’ll be out later this year. [Read more…]

Lucas Till & Joel Courtney Join Sins of Our Youth

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lucas-tillAn interesting cast for Sins Of Our Youth is coming together, with Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class, Paranoia), Joel Courtney (Super 8) and Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club) set to star in the teen drama. The film is based on an original screenplay by Edmund Entin, with Gary Entin set to direct.

Sins of Our Youth is about four teenage boys who accidentally murder a young boy while recreationally shooting assault rifles. The film follows the perilous decisions they make in the wake of the murder, as they deal with desperation, paranoia, and fear that their lives are over due to the certain eventuality of the death penalty. Eventually the four teenagers construct a plan that leads them down an even darker path.

Mitchel Musso (Hannah Montana: The Movie), Bridger Zadina (Terri), Grant Harvey (Save the Date) and newcomer Dani Knights are also set to star. Shooting will begin this week on location in and around Las Vegas, Nevada. Anthony Bretti is the executive producer and Frederick Levy is the co-executive producer.

There is a little gay interest in this, as this will be the second movie from Edmund and Gary Entin following Geography Club, which is about a group teens who set up a ‘Geography Club’ – something though know nobody else will want to join – as a cover for people secretly dealing with their sexual identities. The film was recently acquired by Breaking Glass for US release.

Kate Winslet May Take On The Dressmaker With Judy Davis

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kate-winsletNow that she’s a mother, Kate Winslet tends to be a bit more picky with the roles she takes. Indeed the only movie we’ve had from her since Contagion in 2011 was her five-minute part in the truly terrible Movie 43. She’s got a few films in the works, such as Labor Day and Divergent, and now she may be adding another to the list, as THR reports he’s in talks for The Dressmaker, alongside Judy Davis.

The film is ‘a stylish drama with comic undertones, centers on Tilly Dunnage (Winslet), who returns after many years in Europe to her small Australian outback hometown with revenge on her mind. Tilly, a talented couturier, returns to the remote country town from which she fled as a child after being accused of murder. She wants to make amends with her eccentric mother, Molly (Davis), but first must unravel the secrets of her past.’

Jocelyn Moorhouse is set to direct and also wrote the script based on Rosalie Ham’s script. She describes the story as “Unforgiven with a sewing machine.” The current hope is to shoot in Australia early next year.

Judy Greer Joins George Clooney In Tomorrowland

August 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Judy-GreerBrad Bird’s upcoming movie for Disney, Tomorrowland, starts shooting next week, but they’re still finalising the cast, with Deadline reporting that Judy Greer has signed up to star alongside George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, and Raffey Cassidy in the movie.

The movie is about a young woman who approaches a cranky inventor named Frank (George Clooney) to unravel the mystery behind Tomorrowland, a world that exists in a parallel dimension to ours. Hugh Laurie has been cast as the villain, with Raffey Cassidy playing a child robot who joins Casey and Frank on their journey. Unfortunately there absolutely no news on how Greer will fit into the movie.

Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) came up with the script, which is said to be similar in tone to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and a December 12th, 2014 release has already been set.

New Thor: The Dark World Trailer – Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are back in Asgard

August 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the first Thor, the alien god spent most of his time on Earth, but for the sequel, The Dark World, we’ve been promised plenty more time in Asgard, along with the other realms of the Thor universe. Now a new trailer gives us out best look yet at the film, which can’t resist but show us there will be some moments on Earth in the film – after all, Natalie Portman has to reunite with Thor somehow – even if it’s still very fantasy sci-fi overall.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.’

The film is out October 30th. [Read more…]

The Rise Trailer – Luke Treadaway & Matthew Lewis get into Brit crime

August 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although it did the festival rounds under the title The Wasteland, this new Brit crime flick is now going by the name The Rise. Empire has debuted the trailer for the movie, which hits UK cinemas on September 20th (and DVD on September 30th).

It’s got a pretty good cast, including Luke Treadaway (Attack The Block), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter), Iwan Rheon (Misfits) and Timothy Spall.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Battered, bruised and under arrest, Harvey Miller (Luke Treadaway) sits in a police interview room facing interrogation. Clutching a stack of eyewitness statements, Detective Inspector West (Timothy Spall) has no doubt in Harvey’s part in a foiled robbery, and his subsequent attempted murder of local businessman Steven Roper. Denying everything, Harvey agrees to tell his version of events in full. We take in his release from prison a month earlier, and the malevolent, unjust act that put him in there. We see his emotional reunion with his sibling-like best friends, and the immovable loyalty they have for one another. We see the rekindling of a lost love, a second chance for two people meant for each other. We see the ingenious planning of the ill-fated robbery, the amazing twist, the shocking outcome and the real driving force behind it – retribution. What unfolds is an exhilarating, moving and hilarious story of loyalty, jealousy, friendship, revenge and the pursuit of happiness.’ [Read more…]

New The Counselor Trailer – Michael Fassbender is in trouble in Ridley Scott’s latest

August 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Counselor certainly has a great cast, including Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, and John Leguizamo. It also look like Ridley is channelling some of his late brother’s heightened visual style for the movie, as you can see in this new trailer.

Based on the first original feature script by Cormac McCarthy, The Counselor tells the story of a lawyer (Fassbender), who finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking.

The film is due to hit cinemas this October. [Read more…]
