Headhunters’ Morten Tyldum To Helm Ghostman

June 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

morten-tyldumMorten Tyldum has already segued his success with the Scandinavian movie Headhunters into landing the job as director of the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, which is due to shoot soon with Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley set to star. Now Deadline reports that Warner Bros has hired him to direct an adaptation of Roger Hobbs’ novel, Ghostman.

The book is about a professional Ghostman, someone who cleans up messes and helps fugitives get away. The story follows a clean-up man’s attempt to recover $1 million dollars from a botched casino heist. He finds himself in the cross-hairs of a drug lord named The Wolf and is given 48 hours to complete the task.

Morten Tyldum will be directing from a screenplay provided by Peter Craig with Kevin McCormick producing. No cast has been announced as yet, and there’s no news on when it might shoot, although it won’t be until Imitation Game is in the can.

Locke & Key Comic Getting An Adaptation At Universal Pictures

June 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

locke-and-key-comic-coverStar Trek and Transformers writers/producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman must really like the comic book series Locke & Key, as despite initial attempts to turn it into a film failing, and then a pilot episode of a TV version not getting picked up by Fox (mainly due to budget issues), they haven’t given up.

Now they’ve signed a deal with Universal Pictures to move forward with plans to turn the failed Locke & Key pilot into a movie. Earlier reports suggested the studio was thinking of making a trilogy of movies, but it’s not know if that’s still the case.

Orci and Kurtzman aren’t even the first to try and turn it into a film, as it was being developed as a feature by Dimension Films back in 2008. Created by Joe Hill, Locke & Key is about three siblings who return to their massive estate in Massachusetts after their father’s murder. They soon realise that the house has magical keys that give supernatural powers to those who possess them, which they must use to stop an evil creature who also wants the keys.

Mary Jane Watson Cut From The Amazing Spider-Man 2

June 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shailene-woodleyWhile Mary Jane Watson wasn’t in The Amazing Spider-man, she was supposed to be in the sequel, with Descendants star Shailene Woodley taking the role. However it now appears her scenes have been cut.

Entertainment Weekly recently spoke with actress Woodley about her role in the upcoming YA adaptation Divergent, and it was actress herself who revealed that she has been bumped from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. She says, “Of course I’m bummed. But I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason….based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing (Mary Jane) until the next film.”

Woodley’s role in the movie was only going to be small – indeed she only shot for three days on the movie – leading into an expanded role in Amazing Spider-man 3.

Director Marc Webb comments, “I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress, and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”

While the character of Mary Jane Watson is still expected to appear in the third adventure, it appears she may be recast and that Woodley is out. Indeed, some are speculating that with Sony wanting Spidey movies in 2014, 2016 and 2018, potential conflicts with Woodley’s schedule on Divergent and any sequels to that movie are behind why she’s been dropped from the second Spider-man film and will be recast for the third and fourth. We’ll have to wait and see whether Woodley does indeed get replaced.

Nowhere Boy’s Sam Taylor-Johnson Will Helm Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie

June 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

SamTaylor-Wood-JohnsonAfter months of speculation over who would helm the film version of Fifty Shades Of Grey, Universal Pictures and Focus Features has announced that British artist and director Sam Taylor-Johnson (previously known as Sam Taylor-Wood) has got the job.

Her only previous feature-length movie is Nowhere Boy, about a young John Lennon (and where she also met her now husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson), however she does have some experience with sex on screen thanks to the short Death Valley, which was all about a man masturbating in the desert.

Producer Michael De Luca commented, “Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life. E.L. James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed and Sam is a natural fit.”

Sam Taylor-Johnson herself said, “I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen. For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”

Fifty Shades of Grey has become a global phenomenon and the trilogy has been translated in 50 languages worldwide since its release. To date, the Fifty Shades trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide in e-book and print, making it one of the fastest selling book series ever.

The first book follow the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed explore the couple’s deepening relationship. There’s no news on when the movie might shoot, or who will star.

Many will now wonder whether Sam’s sexy hubby Aaron will be in the movie, which I’m sure many would be very happy to see. Indeed the pic below of Aaron and Sam gives you a taste of what some of the sweeter, less BDSM heavy moments of a Fifty Shades movie might be like.

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It was in development for years, but now Anchorman 2 is really coming, with the likes of Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate are all reprising their Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy roles, with Adam McKay directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ferrell.

The Lego Movie Trailer – Looking more fun than you might think

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Lego Movie may not arrive in cinemas until next year, but you can understand why they want to release a trailer nice and early, as a lot of people will be wondering whether a film filled with little yellow Lego people can work. Well, on the evidence of this, it could be a lot of fun, and it all shows off the various franchises that will show up, including DC superheroes, NBA basketball teams and Ninja Turtles.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Emmet (Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

‘Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie join Chris Pratt to form the cast of the first-ever full length theatrical LEGO movie, the greatest movie ever assembled, which is set to hit cinemas in 14th February 2014.’ [Read more…]

Dumb & Dumber To With Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels Gets Revived By Universal

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dumb-and-dumber-pic1After years in development, earlier this year it finally seemed Dumb and Dumber To was finally going to go ahead, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels both agreeing to star. Then last week disaster struck when New Line Cinema dropped the comedy sequel.

However that’s turned out to just be a bump at the end of a very long road, as now Universal Pictures and Red Granite Pictures have come onboard to back the film.

Directors Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly revealed the news themselves, tweeting, ‘IT”S OFFICIAL: Dumb and Dumber To is going into production with @RedGranitePics and @UniversalPics!!! #DumbTo’

Carrey and Daniels will be back as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, with the stars, filmmakers, and studios working out scheduling to get production started as quickly as possible. There is a bit of extra urgency as Jeff Daniels wants to shoot before he has to go back to work on The Newsroom, while Jim Carrey wants to get it in the can ahead of filming the bank heist comedy Loomis Fargo with Owen Wilson.

Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly are directing from a script by Sean Anders and John Morris, which the directors rewrote themselves. The story revolves around Lloyd and Harry trying to find one of their illegitimate children, so they can donate one of their kidneys to save the child’s life. It’ll shoot on a $35 million budget.
