Fox Plans Choose Your Own Adventure Movie

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

choose-your-own-adventure-book-coverMany people will remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books from their youth, where at the end of each page you got to pick what you wanted to happen next, and then had to turn to the right page to read on. Well, now THR reports that 20th Century Fox has teamed up with Davis Entertainment to try and bring Choose Your Own Adventure to the big screen.

Fox will retain all screen rights to the books, and will have the ability to adapt the numerous stories through multiple platforms. It doesn’t appear that any decision has been taken as to which tale they’ll adapt, or indeed if they’ll try and do something bigger based on the Choose Your Own Adventure concept (I doubt the viewer will get to choose the way the story goes, but the characters could).

More than 180 titles were released in the series, so there’s plenty of fodder for Fox to wade through. The concept was created by Edward Packard, who teamed up with R.A. Montgomery in 1975 for a series of books that allowed the reader to decide where they wanted to go with the story. Between the 70s and late-90s, over 250 million books sold worldwide.

Paramount May Take On Terminator 5 Distribution

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terminator-2Terminator is the biggest franchise that’s still owned outside the studio system, but anyone wanting to make a Terminator movie still needs one of the big boys to distribute the film. Now TheWrap reports that Paramount Pictures is in negotiations to distribute the upcoming Terminator 5, which has Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.

The studio will team up with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison’s Skydance Productions, who are both financing the project jointly. Writers Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) and Laeta Kalogridis (White House Down) have signed on to write the screenplay, but a director has not been attached as of yet. Justin Lin was previously attached to direct before he bowed out back in September 2011.

There is a ticking clock on production though, as certain Terminator rights revert to James Cameron in a few years, so Annapurna and Skydance need to get going fairly quickly.

Director Jon M. Chu Back for G.I. Joe 3

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jon-m-chuMany were surprised when Paramount put a second GI Joe movie into production, but after GI Joe: Retaliation grossed $365 million around the world, it’s not too surprising the studio now wants a third movie.

Deadline reports that Paramount has hired Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu to direct G.I. Joe 3, which is in the early stages of development.

It is early days yet, and it isn’t clear who will be writing the movie. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote Retaliation, but it is not known if they are likely to return. No cast members have been locked in yet, but, given the success of G.I. Joe Retaliation, don’t be surprised if Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and the rest of the Joes sign up for another mission.

Jon M. Chu is also attached to Masters of the Universe at Universal, but that film is still trapped in development.

White House Down Extended Trailer – Channing Tatum has to save Washington D.C.

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The idea of White House Down may be that Channing Tatum has to save the President (Jamie Foxx) from terrorists, but as this extended trailer shows, the whole of Washington DC is in trouble. But then, this is Roland Emmerich, who feels it’s a wasted day if he hasn’t destroyed at least a few major world landmarks.

It may have a similar story to Olympus Has Fallen, but it certainly looks like this will be told on a bigger scale, and with four minutes to give us a taste of the film, it looks pretty fun.

The movie hits US cinemas on June 28th and will reach the UK on September 6th. [Read more…]

First Look At Need For Speed In A New Featurette

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Fast and Furious such a huge moneyspinner, it not too surprising that DreamWorks is wondering if it can have its own car-based franchised with Need For Speed. Now we get our first look at the movie courtesy of an on-the-set featurette, which unsurprisingly focuses on the automotive action.

Based on the videogame series, Aaron Paul stars as an underground race car driver who owns a shop that modifies sports cars for racing. He is framed for the murder of his best friend, who died during a race, and upon his release from prison he seeks revenge. Dominic Cooper plays a former NASCAR driver who now owns a high-end shop that rebuilds race cars, while Imogen Poots is an exotic car dealer who works with both Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper’s characters.

Scott Waugh directs with a February 2014 release set. [Read more…]

Logan Lerman Gets Stylish In A New Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters Poster

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

percy-jackson-character-poster2
While some are still wondering why they made a sequel to Percy Jackson, it was actually a fun film and quite frankly any opportunity to get the prettiness of Logan Lerman on the big screen is something Hollywood should take.

While you might expect all the posters to sell big action and fantasy, as new one has popped up over at MTV, which goes rather simple and stylish, simply reminding us that Lerman’s profile is nice to look at.

Lerman, Alexandra Dadarrio and Brandon T. Jackson are back in the world of modern day Greek gods for Sea Of Monsters. This time Percy Jackson (Lerman), the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood.

It’s out in August.

Holliday Grainger Up For Disney’s Live-Action Cinderella

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

holliday-graingerIf you’re going to make a Cinderella movie, you need some evil stepsisters. Now Disney’s live action take on the legend has got one, as TheWrap reports that Holliday Grainger (Great Expectations) has signed up to play the role.

Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the movie, with Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Downton’s Lily James in the title role. Game Of Thrones star Richard Madden is set to take on the duties of the dashing prince.

Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz came up with the script, but there’s still no info on how this version will deviate from the original story – although the presumption is that elements will be updated to make Cinderella less passive and more of a modern girl in charge of her own destiny.

The film is due to shoot this autumn.

Josh Peck Signs Up To Star Alongside Al Pacino For Imagine

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

josh-peckFor a couple of years now, Al Pacino has been attached to star in the dramedy Imagine, but the project has been continually delayed. Now it looks like it’s ready to movie forward, with TheWrap reporting that Wackness and Red Dawn star Josh Peck has joined the growing cast of the film.

Inspired by a true story, Imagine is about an aging musician (Pacino) who discovers an old letter written to him by John Lennon, urging him to leave his rock star ways behind him and bond with the son he never met.  Bobby Cannavale is playing the son, Jennifer Garner will be Pacino’s daughter-in-law, with Annette Bening as the rocker’s love interest, and Michael Caine as his longtime manager. Peck will be a hotel valet who Pacino urges to pursue the girl of his dreams.

Owen Wilson Joins Jim Carrey In The Heist Comedy Loomis Fargo

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

owen-wilsonOwen Wilson is picking himself up from a disappointing first weekend at the US box office for his comedy, The Internship, by signing up to star in Loomis Fargo (which may be in the process of changing its name), alongside Jim Carrey.

Deadline reports the news, but doesn’t say exactly who Wilson will play. Loosely based on a true story, it follows an armoured truck driver who is convinced to help participate in a $17 million robbery, but his partners are quick to turn on him once the job is done and leave him stranded in Mexico while they go off to live the high life. Then it’s time to settle the score.

The presumption is that Carrey is playing the driver, but it could be that role is going to Wilson. We’ll have to wait and see.

Jared Hess is directing from a script by Emily Spivey, Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer

Director Zack Snyder & Writer David S. Goyer Returning For Man Of Steel 2

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-snyderWarner Bros obviously has confidence in Man Of Steel (and some of the first reviews suggest they have reason to), as they’re already moving forward with Man Of Steel 2. They’ve locked in director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer to make it happen, according to Deadline.

It isn’t known whether Christopher Nolan will be back as a producer. He helped shepherd the Man of Steel story with David S. Goyer, receiving both a story credit on the screenplay and a producing credit. Insiders suggest that even if Christopher Nolan does return as producer, his involvement will not be as “full blown” as his work on the first film, partly because he’ll be busy for the next year or so working on Interstellar, a sci-fi thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine.

Goyer’s three-picture deal with Warner Bros. includes Man of Steel, this upcoming sequel, and Justice League. Whether we’ll get the last of those will be determined by the box office success of Man of Steel, although even then we have to wait a while, as it’s been suggested that Warner may want a Man Of Steel sequel and a Batman reboot before Justice League.
